Mads Emil Dreyer Lys 3 (2017) solo piece for crotales, 16 light bulbs and electronics Dur. 12
GENERAL COMMENTS The piece is for crotales, 16 light bulbs, and electronics. The crotale part is played by a percussionist. The player performs the part from memory with a click track. No other lighting in the hall during the performance. The crotales pitches are recorded live onto 16 separate digital tracks and sent back through a double stereo speaker set-up. Each pitch has a lamp assigned to it i.e. each time a pitch occurs the corresponding lamp will light up. The noise from the electricity going through each of the lamps’ metal stands is recorded and filtered so that the lamps are tuned in unison with the corresponding crotale pitch. Preferably, this should be rendered live, however the piece can also be performed using prerecorded and pre-filtered electric noise and automation of the light curves of the lamps. The score at hand provides a general overview of the piece. Dynamics and the precise timing of each crotale’s pitch and light bulb will vary slighty with every performance. Equipment needed: 1 set of crotales with bow 1 computer with Max/MSP 2 feedback resistant microphones (Shure SM57 works well) 1 Enttec DMXIS 4 × 4-channel dimmer boxes (Stairville) 16 light stands (from IKEA) with 16 incandescent light bulbs (60W) A double stereo speaker set-up (i.e. four channels) Stage set-up Speaker 1
