Repeater, quietusis an audiovisual piece by Danish composer Mads Emil Dreyer. It’s written for Italian performer Lorenzo Colombo who controls and manipulates sounds from eight small percussion instruments (four singing bowls and four frame drums). Each instrument has a contact mic and an audio transducer mounted onto its surface. The vibrations from each instrument are captured by the contact mic and then projected through the audio transducer. This process continues indefinitely and thus creates eight independent feedback loops. Additionally, each microphone input is routed to an envelope converter, which translates the audio signal to a light protocol, which controls small incandescent light bulbs placed in front of the instruments – i.e. the flickering lights become the visual representation of the feedback sounds of the instruments.
The duration of the piece is 37 minutes and was premiered at the Danish experimental music festival SPOR in May 2024.
