Mads Emil Dreyer Miniature 3 (2020–21) for sinfonietta and electronics Dur. 14
PERFORMANCE NOTES The score is written in transposition. Please note that the keyboard part transposes according to the chart found on the next page, and the cello part sounds one half step lower than written due to the detuning of the C string. The toy glockenspiel sound as written. Electronics The electronics are performed on MIDI keyboards by the pianist and the two percussionists. The electronic sound is broadcast through actuators mounted on the string instruments and the glockenspiel. No extra loudspeakers are needed. Each actuator needs amplification. Please make sure that the gain control on the amplifiers do not exceed 50% The sounds are produced by a sine wave generator built in Max.
Tech rider: 1 × Apple MacBook Pro with Max 1 × Audio interface with minimum 7 outputs 7 × PUI ASX03608-R actuators (+ Schertler contact mic putty) 7 × Dayton DTA-1 amplifiers MIDI keyboards: - 2 x AKAI MPK Mini (for perc. 1 and 2) - 1 x Alesis V49 (for pianist) 2 × Sonor alto glockenspiel (w. rubber mallets)

Keyboard: The pianist controls a digital sine wave synthesizer. The sound is being transmitted by five actuators mounted on the string instruments. For performance reasons the keyboard part is written in transposition. The pitches transpose according to this chart which also shows which string instrument each sine wave is being sent to (the lowest C is equal to the lowest C on the MIDI keyboard):
Strings: Cello scordatura: I: A II: D III: G IV: B (down one half step) Please note that the cello part is written in transposition (i.e. sounding one half step below written) All pitches must be played on the detuned string. Harmonics: The artifical harmonics are all touch-fourth harmonics. They sound two octaves above the lowest note. Natural harmonics are indicated by a small round hole above the notehead. They sound as written. Please note that the double bass harmonics are written in transposition (i.e. the touch-fourth harmonics sound one octave above the lower note, and the natural harmonics sound one octave below written). Electronics: Actuators are mounted on the body of each string instrument with green Schertler contact mic putty. The electronic sounds are sine waves coming from a digital keyboard controlled by the pianist.

Percussion Both players perform on MIDI keyboards (left hand) and toy glockenspiel (right hand). The left hand and right hand parts are identical except for a tiny detuning of the MIDI keyboards. To ease reading, the two instruments are compiled into one staff. Actuators are mounted on the upper surface of the glockenspiel with green Schertler putty. They function as tiny loudspeakers transmitting sine waves from the MIDI keyboard.
