ABOUT THE BOOK
Have you ever heard of animals in danger of extinction? Do you know what this means?
In the dictionary, extinction means to disappear, to vanish completely. This is what may happen to some animal species if things continue as they are. Deforestation drives animals away from their homes, the woods, and forests. If you help protect the forests, you will also protect the animals that live in them.
Do you know the animals that appear in this book? See here the name of each one.
MANED WOLF (Chrysocyon brachyuru)
THREE-BANDED ARMADILLO (Tolypeutes tricinctus)
(Anodorhynchus lear)
(Myrmecophaga tridactyla)
BROAD-SNOUTED CAIMAN (Caiman latirostris)
(Leontopithecus rosalia)
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Cristina Carvalho and I sign my drawings and watercolors as Cris Eich, a nickname I use from my school days in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo/Brazil, the city where I was born. I have illustrated more than 80 books of children’s literature. It was by observing nature and the threats it faces that I created this book. I believe that life on the planet, the inhabitants in the cities, the animals in the forests, the life in the rivers and the seas, are all connected.
“Where are the animals?” was selected to be part of un –United Nations Book Club (SDG Book Club), a worldwide action in order to encourage children to read books that promote their contact with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined by 2030 un Agenda. “Where are the animals?” was nominated to bring a greater awareness and understanding of deforestation and world climate.
