What is text speak? Text speak is a type of writing used for quick and short messages. It is common in social media, online chat, and text messaging. It uses many abbreviations such as: AML – All My Love; 2DAY – Today; B4 – Before; IRL – In Real Life. New technology, such as smartphones with predictive text and autocorrect, permits users to write full, real words, but the use of text speak is still very popular. The use of emoticons is also very common in online communications and texting. Emoticons are punctuation marks that express emotions, gestures, objects, and symbols. Examples: :-) – happy, :-( – sad, :-* – kiss, ;-) – wink. Text speak and emoticons are important parts of the new generations’ written language.

In aviation, the letters of the alphabet are expressed using words. They form a single universal alphabet, that is, each letter is represented by an internationally recognized word. These words are from a number of different languages: English, French, Greek, Latin, and Spanish. A is Alpha, B is Bravo, C is Charlie, D is Delta, etc. The names of airplanes are also a group of five letters, called prefix. The first two letters indicate if an airplane is private, PT (Papa Tango), or commercial, PP (Papa Papa). An airplane under the prefix PT LIE is called in full: Papa Tango Lima India Echo. PP SON is Papa Papa Sierra Oscar November. The pilot requests permission to land like this: “Control Tower, this is Papa Tango Whisky Hotel Kilo” (PT WHK).
