International Association of Dental Students is not just an association which aims to improve and bring out the best in individuals, it is also an association which by bridging the gap between students from 60 different countries, creates the opportunity for them to learn and experience how dentistry is practiced worldwide through the International Clinical Exchange Program (ICEP) so they could apply this in their future dental practice. As the oldest dental student association in the world, it produces and brings forth not just one but quite a few talented dentists in the world. ICEP has always been the highlight project of IADS, where every year officers will brainstorm and decide on new ways to make it better and more exciting for every student in order to enrich their cultural knowledge and promote their advancement in dentistry in different parts of the world. This term is like no other term before because this year the new IADS Exchange council recruited few National exchange officers (NEO) from different regions of IADS to become regional exchange officers (REO) and 2 council secretaries share the workflow and make the ICEP run more smoothly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my council members, NEOs and LEOs who work relentlessly to create and organize fantastic clinical exchanges for students worldwide. Nonetheless, I would like to thank Mr. Abanob Yosry, our IADS Editor and his brilliant team of editors that made this exchange booklet a success. This issue of our Exchange booklet will be different from previous years since it features experiences of several students regarding the time they participated in exchanges in different universities and also this booklet will help each student to know what to expect and to prepare themselves to choose the exchange programme most suitable for them. Before I end my speech here, I sincerely hope that more students will benefit from this issue of our Exchange booklet. More opportunities for students from different parts of the world shine bright in the future of dentistry.

Sincerely, Dr Tan Sze Hao International Exchange officer 2017/2018

IADS - A WARM WELCOMING FAMILY

“You miss a hundred percent of the chances you don’t take.” is one of the quotes I live by. My story with IADS began just like this. I took my chance when I applied for the IADS Editorial Board with little to no hope of being accepted because being only in my 3rd year of dental school I somehow felt insufficient as compared to the dental students I would see online. When I got accepted into the IADS Editorial Board, I found IADS to be a warm welcoming family. At no moment did I feel insufficient because I realized that all the work IADS does is achieved by dental students around the world cooperating with each-other. As part of the Editorial Board, I got to keep track of the IADS Exchange Council too and I even took part in one of their exchange programs in Poland. The experience is really what they promise. Getting to know another culture, how dentistry is practiced in Poland and interacting with other students from around the world made me realize furthermore how precious the work done by IADS is and how international interaction and cooperation is key for the progress of dentistry. Having tasted the benefits of the exchange program I felt like I needed to do more for this program and I got this opportunity when the call for members of the exchange council was open. I have to give credit to Eddie, our International Exchange Officer, who with the innovated structure of the council not only gave me the opportunity to be a part of the Exchange Council but also ensured that the workflow within the council would be more efficient so we could serve the IADS community better. As one of the secretaries of the Exchange Council, I feel responsible of ensuring all information we give to dental students around the world is successfully conveyed and leaves no place for misunderstandings. IADS has offered me many opportunities and it has made me realize that the best in life happens outside your comfort zone. It gave me motivation, confidence, as well as teamwork and leadership skills which I will surely resort to, be it in my working environment or everyday life in the future.

“To Travel is to Live” – Hans Christian Andersen

My name is Joanna Dawcewicz, i’m currently 5th year student of Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry from Pomeranian Medical Univeristy in Poland and i’m an Exchange Council Secretary in International Association of Dental Students. My adventure with International Clinical Exchange Program (ICEP) has started over year ago, when i was on another side - as participant of the Exchanges. This was one of the best expieriences in my life. Each exchange is very unique due to different origins of the country, culture and unfogettable people, which truly cares about their visitors. Thats great opportunity to see how the dentistry worldwide is working and widen own dental horizons. You shouldn’t missed such an occasion before the graduation. That expierience will enrich many fields of your life and will be memorable beyond your expectations. It will have educational, personal and long-term positive infuence on your life. Participation in such a programms will helo you to self-develop yourself and enhanced your understanding of community perspectives. Successful program completion represents an excellent measure of personal flexibility, encompassing an ability to reach compromise, focus and succeed through challenging times. Since i have joined the ICEP Board as an Exchange Council Secretary, we are constantly improving the structures, collaborations, program of exchanges and graphic designs. Travelling is one of my greatest passion so besides responisbilities i have to fullfill its what i love the most! Now i can take part in it and help to discover that passion in others and share the ideas of enhancement the function with my collegous from the Board. Together is Better.

I’m thrilled to be holding this new position in IADS exchange council, as I believe that every dental student around the world deserves to get the chance to benefit from our clinical exchange programs. What i’m doing Now is spotting the new sign up’s to portal from non IADS members countries, and contacting them offering the chance of being a member in IADS individually. I’m looking forward to reach as many students as possible and help them to become members in IADS so they can access our programs.

Abeer Al-Hamdan Individual Exchange Officer

As your Asia-Pacific regional exchange officer, involving more and more countries in IADS clinical exchange program is the goal which I will pursue this year. Through IADS, the one of the largest dental students organizations in the world, students from all over can explore and experience the beauty and friendship of Asia. In the same way, Asian students can also connect students from different backgrounds as well. So we can not only gain memorable professional experiences but also gain insights into cultural aspects of Europe, Middle East, Africa, and America. I believe this project can enrich our careers. Let us prepare and get ready to create new experiences.

IADS 64th MYM NEO MEETING REPORT By Mustafa Hacilar

IADS 64th MYM NEO Meeting held on the 12th of March 2018 Monday in the conference room in Near East University provided by local organizing committee. Meeting held with the help of the Tan Sze Hao, Abanob Yosry, Natalia Savkova and Andrey Baltaev of the Executive Council of IADS. During the meeting Local and National Exchange officers from 5 different countries including Romania (3 representative), North Cyprus, Russia, Turkey and Finland had chance to share their opinions and thought about various subject related with the current ICEP. Regional Exchange Officers Cristina Dragota and Mustafa Hacilar introduced the results of the survey of new exchange portal and participants discussed the outcomes of the survey. Participants all pleased on such fruitful meeting.

I am currently working as Regional Exchange Officer of Middle East. As a REO our job is to collect information from the Region’s associated countries for the IEO about their current Exchange program as well as helping them with their problems wand guide them how to organize successful exchange programs for their own countries. In addition to this we help NEOs to connect with each other. During my time as REO i have learned how efficient the ICEP from first hand and develop new communication skills as well as how to be more helpful for the IADS. In my personal opinion regional exchange officer position is a very valuable position for the continuity of the ICEP and now it is a vital organ for the ICEP and for the IEO likewise. I really enjoyed working with the Exchange Council and I really hope in the future I can be part of this team again!
