The teacher José Lazcarro allowed us to visit his studio from where he told us about different artistic techniques such as engraving, painting, sculpture, there is no technique that escapes him to create and express his work, which have been exhibited in different countries. He crossed borders and this is how he has been standing out with his participation in various lithography biennials.
We can say that the work of this artist is distinguished by his ability to merge geometry, texture and color. According to art critics, his pieces are highly plastic and symbolic even though his style is based on the Latin American tradition to which he also incorporates modern and contemporary elements.
Although it is true in Mexico we have a lot of talent in different areas but... Can everyone occupy a prestigious place like that of maestro Lazcarro? History has shown us the social injustice in which we have lived for years and that continues to this day, so we must be persevering and constant.
Kate: What is it like to work from art in Mexico? Lazcarro: Well, we have always had a great history, we had a millennial cultural trajectory. In reality, our ancestral culture is the basis of what we currently produce and many stages have passed. We have suffered all kinds of things, from invasions, the theft of our land, changes of government, revolution, all of this has shaped us as a multicultural country with deep roots, especially in ancestral cultures, one could say from the Olmec, Mayan, Mexica, Purépecha culture have given us base weights.
Of course, the Europeans also have their type of art, the only thing we do is make a symbiosis and make this diffusion and from that a new form of Mexican art emerges.
Currently we are at the mercy of everything that happens with communication techniques, social networks and all the technological information we have, suddenly we have a way of making art that becomes universal, multicultural, plural, full of changes and even in everything. the social phenomenon.
As artists we are concerned with working to raise awareness, one of the vocations in which art has worked, which is precisely to reflect social problems. Of course, all those things that we have to see and that we are assimilating all the time regarding violence and insecurity in the world, climate change due to pollution in a world overwhelmed, makes us produce another type of art and get very involved strong to all the conceptual part. One of the main purposes of art is to raise awareness in the public and in human minds so that it has that function that allows us to develop.
