INTRODUCTION INTRODUCCIÓN Since the beginning of art history, practices have been dominated by the discussion of men’s art and isms. Even when women became free to create art and were recognized as artists, they have frequently been ignored in art history or were only mentioned in certain contexts such as performance art or with the use of ‘femine’ materials and mediums. When women’s art is discussed within terms of art history, it is often labelled as feminist. We believe that this default labelling is restrictive to the understanding of women’s art and to the future of women’s art history, and belies the complexity and diversity of art created by women.

Feminist art should not be determinated by the sex of the artists but by the politics informing the artwork ‘Feminist Art’ vis not an aesthetic or an artist’s sex, ‘feminist art’ should be an art

Desde el comienzo de la historia del arte, las prácticas artísticas han estado dominadas por el hombre y los ismos. Incluso cuando las mujeres se volvieron libres para crear arte y fueron reconocidas como artistas, con frecuencia han sido ignoradas en la historia del arte o solo han sido mencionadas en ciertos contextos, como ejemplo tenemos el arte performance o el uso de materiales y medios “femeninos”. Everyone should use the F word – Feminism. It’s outrageous that so many people who believe in the tenets of feminism – human rights including education for women worldwide, reproductive rights, freedom from sexual abuse and explotation – still stop short of calling themselves feminists.

Civil rights, women’s rights, lesbian, gay and trans rights are the great human right movements of our time. Feminism has been demonized for so long in society and the media that it doesn’t get the respect it deserves, but it’s changed the world revolutionized human though and given many women lives their great grandmothers could never have imagined. Even the most repressive nations in the world have feminist, bravely speaking up or quietly working for women.

As a publisher we believe in liberation, collaboration and diversifying perspectives.

We also believe that making a zine collection generates a more powerful meaning, playing a role as a vehicle for alternative communication and it also provide some understanding of popular culture. We may also propose that the zine is a continually evolving form of communication.

What it is attempting to communicate whether personal or political is determinated by how it is put together as much as by what it is trying to say.

For many zine producers, a politics of resistance is communicated visually through its graphic language, which has become integral, if not vital, to the development of a subcultural discourse.

Como editor, creemos en la liberación, la colaboración y la diversificación de perspectivas. También creemos que hacer una colección de fanzines genera un significado más poderoso, desempeñando un papel como comunicador alternativo, proporcionando cierta portabilidad y comprensión de la cultura popular. The interest of produce zines has increased over the last years. The main reason is because they are the perfect vehicle to transform something invisible to something visible, embracing the ethos of a ‘Do it yourself community’

EXHIBITION EXHIBICIÓN

One of the things that drew us to feminism was the increasing power and international networks of collaboration in recent decades. Our intention is to make visible some ways of engaging with the topic. The gaze is the act of seeing and being seen.

This short exhibition brings together a Feminist Zine Collection with the aim of diversifying the way of understanding the movement, its research and perspectives, its social impact, its expression and group discussion when addressing its problems in the D.I.Y. culture. Also this event showcases the recent artwork of Teeson Shen, Lyu Wen, Chui Yin Wong, Rafael MC and Kristopher Karpowicz .

Una de las cosas que nos llevó al feminismo fue el creciente poder y las redes internacionales de colaboración en las últimas décadas. Nuestra intención es hacer visibles algunas formas de abordar el tema. La mirada es el acto de ver y ser visto.

Esta breve exposición reúne una Colección de Zines Feministas con el objetivo de diversificar la manera de entender el movimiento, su investigación y perspectivas, su impacto social, su expresión y discusión grupal al abordar sus problemas en el movimiento del ‘Hazlo tu mismx’. También este evento muestra la obra de arte reciente de Teeson Shen, Lyu Wen, Chui Yin Wong, Rafael MC y Kristopher Karpowicz

Latin American Feminist Zine Collection

In 2017, Editorial Facsimile had an open call and received 3 copies of 35 publishing projects for the Latin American Feminist Zine Collection, which will be donated to LCC Library, Horst Hartung Franz Library and Editorial Facsimile Library for research and teaching purposes. En 2017, Editorial Facsimile publicó una convocatoria para generar una Colección Feminista de Fanzines Latinoamericanxs, recibió 3 copias de 35 proyectos editoriales, mismos que serán donados a la Biblioteca LCC , la Biblioteca Horst Hartung Franz y la Biblioteca EF con fines de investigación y enseñanza. TEESON SHEN DECLARACIÓN DEL ARTISTA My work includes a range of types such as portraits and book illustration. As a Chinese illustrator studying in London, I was really interested in portraits. Growing up in mainland China, I was strongly influenced by classical soviet art and renaissance masters. I started drawing portraits because I was attracted to facial features and facial expressions. Therefore, I painted icons with an emphasis on details and shade. I also tried to incorporate oriental sophistication and colour schemes in my illustrations. In my opinion, portraits could show emotions and characters. As icons, figures chosen by artists also represent the topic they want to show. It helps audience to know the artists’ idea better.

Public figures, like movie stars and singers, could usually reflect the main mind and spirit of that time period. Feminism experienced a long-term development, and people’s view on women has

Mi trabajo incluye una variedad de tipos como retratos e ilustraciones de libros. Como ilustrador Chino estudiando en Londres, estoy realmente interesado en los retratos. Al crecer en China, fui fuertemente influenciado por el arte soviético clásico y los maestros del renacimiento. Empecé a dibujar retratos porque me atraían las características faciales y las expresiones faciales. Por lo tanto, pinté íconos con énfasis en los detalles y la sombra. changed a lot. In old Hollywood, movies always portrayed actors as a stereotypical male image.

They weren’t allowed to show any femininity to the public. Slowly, some female stars began to play a vanguard role. They proved to people that women could manage everything that men could do. From my perspective, feminism now not only means women have equal rights but also means diversity, women have a right to be anyone they want, even if they just want to be a fragile and sensitive housewife.

LYU WEN DECLARACIÓN DEL ARTISTA Marcel Duchamp makes the art out of the restriction of the specific medium and freedom.

Franz Kafka makes the sticky literature free. At the same time, Bob Dylan blurred the boundaries between music and literature. All of it makes me understand that art could include all kinds of fields and be of infinite possibility. In my opinion, the meaning of art is the same as science.

They both have the nature of exploration and the final purpose is to expand the width of mankind’s thoughts.

Marcel Duchamp hace del arte la restricción del medio específico y la libertad. Franz Kafka libera la literatura pegajosa. Al mismo tiempo, Bob Dylan desdibujó los límites entre la música y la literatura.

Todo esto me hace comprender que el arte podría incluir todo tipo de campos y ser de posibilidades infinitas. En mi opinión, el significado del arte es lo mismo que la ciencia. Ambos tienen la naturaleza de la exploración y el objetivo final es ampliar el ancho de los pensamientos de la humanidad.

Since the art is of infinite possibility and freedom. I want to create an unknown thing which is beyond our awareness. The thing which has not been created is the artistic charm I want to pursue. Its meaning is liberation. I want to explore all possibilities of art with the medium of video to expand the thinking methods. In my opinion, works and life should be integrated. The artistic spirit is not limited to a certain thing.

Dado que el arte es de infinita posibilidad y libertad.

Quiero crear algo desconocido que está más allá de nuestra conciencia. Lo que no se ha creado es el encanto artístico que quiero perseguir. Su significado es liberación. Quiero explorar todas las posibilidades del arte con el medio del video para expandir los métodos de pensamiento. En mi opinión, las obras y la vida deberían integrarse. El espíritu artístico no se limita a una determinada cosa.

CHUI YIN WONG DECLARACIÓN DEL ARTISTA

I am a Hong Kong interactive installation artist studying MA Fine Art Digital in Camberwell College of Art. My current art piece focuses on experimental basis and daily observation.

By experimenting with different possibilities, I hope to overthrow stereotypes and open new alternatives. Although experimental art projects may not be 100% successful, sometimes the process is more valuable instead. When you are investigating the way to do it, you will explore different fields.

Untitled Smell (2017) is a project where I attempt to use odour as the medium to communicate.

Everyone has a unique memory of odour. So, I made a “smell” and provided a new sensual enjoyment for the audience to smell, to experience, to imagine and to recall their own memory.

Soy un artista de instalación interactiva de Hong Kong que estudia MA Fine Art Digital en Camberwell College of Art. Mi obra de arte actual se centra en la base experimental y la observación diaria.

Al experimentar con diferentes posibilidades, espero derrocar los estereotipos y abrir nuevas alternativas.

Aunque los proyectos de arte experimental pueden no ser 100% exitosos, a veces el proceso es más valioso. Cuando estas investigando la forma de hacerlo, exploras diferentes campos. Untitled Smell (2017) es un proyecto en el que intento usar el olor como medio para comunicarme. Todos tienen un recuerdo único de olor. Entonces, hice un “olor” y proporcioné un nuevo disfrute sensual para que el público oliera, experimentara, imaginara y recordara su propia memoria.

Aparte de la base experimental, la observación diaria es siempre mi musa. No importa cuán aburridas sean nuestras vidas, siempre hay algo que te sorprenderá.

Puede convertirse en una nueva perspectiva para explorar la ciudad en la que vivimos. Por lo tanto, el arte se ve como algo cercano a nuestra vida cotidiana.

Espero que la gente pueda echar un vistazo a su entorno y que encuentren algo interesante a través de los detalles.

Apart from experimental basis, daily observation is always my muse. No matter how boring our lives are, there is always something to surprise you. It can become a new perspective for exploring the city that we are living in. Thus, art is seen as something close to our daily lives. I hope people can take a look at their surroundings and they may find something interesting via the details.

RAFAEL MC DECLARACIÓN DEL ARTISTA

Rafael Morales Cendejas works and lives in London. His artistic process is deeply influenced by the recognition of new literary forms, his projects linked through the platform of selfpublishing, a concept that derives from do-ityourself culture, used by subcultures with a lot to express but with low visibility and resources.

His publications are interested in covering the individual and collaborative perspective. He explores print techniques and distribution media to generate audiences through cultural strategies and suggests the necessary conditions for dialogue between authors, readers and objects.

El proceso artístico de Rafael está profundamente influido por el reconocimiento de nuevas formas literarias, sus proyectos ligados a través de la plataforma de la autoedición, un concepto que deriva del lema hazlo tu mismo implementado por subculturas con bastante que expresar pero con poca o nula visibilidad y recursos. Sus publicaciones se interesan en abarcar la perspectiva individual y colaborativa, exploran los medios de impresión y distribución, buscando generar públicos a través de estrategias culturales y sugieren las condiciones necesarias para dialogar entre autores, lectores y objetos.

Sus experimentos en fotografía, ilustración, performance, dibujo y video, se transforman y estructuran en una metodología de diseño editorial para tomar forma de libro arte, con la posibilidad a ser objeto de estudio. Las obras de Rafael recuperan el gesto del tacto, propician la interactividad e intertextualidad, evolucionan constantemente, al igual que el proceso de su producción.

His experiments in photography, illustration, performance, drawing and video are transformed and structured into a methodology of editorial design to create a book art form, with the possibility of being studied as an object. Rafael’s works recovers the gesture of touch, interactivity and intertextuality. He is under constant evolution, as well as the process of its production.

KRISTOPHER KARPOWICZ DECLARACIÓN DEL ARTISTA Kristopher Karpowicz is a professional postproduction retoucher and multi-media artist working in London, UK. I’m originally from Poland/ Sweden and I’ve a degree in Strategic Design & Management from The New School Parsons in New York City.

My artistic practice “Identity” evolves around my own image and I’ve been shooting stories with different themes at various locations since 2009. I work and collaborate with gay, or gayfriendly photographers. The first series begun in Stockholm, Sweden and further continued in America. Topics from the LGBT community such as bondage and vanity play a central role in the early series, developing into other facets of my personality, allowing a gender-fluid expression.

The process of photography and post-production has morph me into different personas while discovering myself.

Kristopher Karpowicz es un retocador profesional de posproducción y artista multimedia que trabaja en Londres, Reino Unido. Nacido en Polonia / Suecia con título en Diseño y Gestión Estratégica otorgado por The New School Parsons en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Mi práctica artística “Identidad” evoluciona alrededor de mi propia imagen, capturando historias con diferentes temas y locaciones desde 2009. Trabajo y colaboro con fotógrafos gays o amigos de la comunidad homosexual. La primera serie comenzó en Estocolmo, Suecia y continuó en América.

Los temas de la comunidad LGBT como la esclavitud y la vanidad, juegan un papel central en las primeras series y se desarrollan en otras facetas de mi personalidad, lo que permite una expresión fluida de género. El proceso de fotografía y postproducción me ha permitido descubrirme a mí mismo al interpretar diferentes personajes.

The latest stop of my nomadic journey is London. In developing The Prince -series, I drew inspiration from the capital’s rich Royal history, including a nod to the tradition of elegant sartorial and military style, which can be seen in the Dorset regiment jacket I’m wearing. The two images displayed are meant as a diptych, encouraging the viewer to build an unique narrative around it.

La última parada de mi viaje nómada es Londres. Al desarrollar The Prince-series, me inspiré en la rica historia real de la capital, incluyendo un guiño a la tradición del elegante estilo de sastrería y militar, que se puede ver en la chaqueta del regimiento de Dorset que llevo puesta. Las dos imágenes mostradas están pensadas como un díptico, lo que anima al espectador a construir una narrativa única a su alrededor.

Men can be hurt from the patriarchal world too. But today lets dialogue about women, forgot our gender if possible, it is all about equality, grab a customised drink with a potential question.

Editorial Facsimile is a Mexican publisher that will be based in London from 2017 to 2019 managing editorial projects related to contemporary art and design. Our mission is to foster and promote book arts, zines, visual poetry, ephemera and artist-led publishing between Mexico and UK through collaboration, education and distribution. Our publications are interested in covering the individual and collaborative perspective, exploring print techniques and distribution media to generate audiences through cultural strategies and suggest the necessary conditions for dialogue between authors, readers and objects.
