Barcelona Meeting Point WELCOME LETTER
BMP, THE REAL ESTATE EXHIBITION PAR EXCELLENCE Barcelona Meeting Point 2018, in its aim to give voice to the needs and worries of the citizens, professionals and institutions, as well as to boost the solutions to be implemented, will present this year a strategic change in its focus, opening its venue and contents to the citizenship. BMP, with a solid background of 22 years of experience, gathers in a single exhibition the strength of the experience with the drive of its youth. The result is that this international gathering is a focus of knowledge for professionals and citizens that cannot be missed. Barcelona Meeting Point faces a period of great changes to lead the new real estate industry in Spain and increase even more its international relevance. That is why the present edition concentrates all its offer in just four days, therefore reducing costs for the participating companies and intensifying the activity during the days of the event. At the same time, the exhibition floor map has been completely reorganized inspired in the Barcelona example, as well as the entrance and exit accesses to facilitate the flood of visitors throughout the whole of the pavilion.

TORRE GLÒRIES To unlock the key points of why a building turns into an icon of its city and time is an exciting task implying the discovery of the secrets of mass seduction. Even before its completion, Torre Glòries (before known as Torre Agbar) arose such interest that the City Council of Barcelona used it as the new symbol of the city in their promotional banners. The Tower was built as the icon of what Barcelona aspired to be: a modern, technological and global city.
Emin Capital, an investor group without known track record, who declared its intention to turn the Tower into a hotel. The conversion into a hotel –which the town planning of Barcelona enables without any difficulties – will finally permit the people living in Barcelona to enjoy the building. Several firstclass hotel chains started to show interest in the building’s operation. The first was Hyatt, followed by Westmont.
The history of the Tower starts in the year 2001: Agbar looked for a location for its new offices and wanted to have an emblematic and representative building portraying strength. The marketing of the property was carried out by Layetana; an ambitious and highly professional developer. The architectural assignment was allocated to the distinguished Jean Nouvel in cooperation with the efficient team of Barcelona b720.
In 2015 the famous moratorium of hotel licenses was implemented, reason why the hotel operators interested in the Tower vanished from the map and consequently the acquisition of the Tower by Emin Capital was suspended.
The Tower was occupied by Agbar’ staff for years. And people in Barcelona continue admiring it in the distance without giving it much consideration, since the Tower was impregnable for anyone not working in Agbar or those not specifically invited to visit it. In 2013 there were news in the press about the Tower being acquired by

ONLY 3,600 NEW HOUSES FOR SALE IN BARCELONA The housing census elaborated by Sociedad de Tasación has revealed that the stock of new homes for sale in Barcelona fell by 89.6% with respect to the figure collected in the 2016 census. The study ‘ New Housing Census ST in Barcelona and Metropolitan Area 2018 ‘, which makes a complete and detailed examination of the real estate market situation in the municipalities of the Ciudad Condal and its metropolitan area, reveals that of the 2,793 new housing units on offer registered in the ST Census in 2016, only 289 homes remained in May of this year. If this pace of stock absorption continues, the supply of new homes in Barcelona could be completely exhausted by June 2019, or even sooner. Likewise, there could also be an acceleration scenario in the price increases that have already been observed in the last semesters. Not only has the amount of new housing stock changed, but also its composition. The weight of the house under construction has increased by 65.7% since 2016 to constitute 50.9% of the total offer, while the finished buildings represent only 12.4% of the
new homes offered in Barcelona and its metropolitan area, which reflects a reduction of 53.6% with respect to 2016. For its part, housing without starting completes this census representing 36.8% of the offer and increasing by 54.8%. In addition, the study by Sociedad de Tasación reveals that the average size of the houses that are part of the stock is stable in the Metropolitan Area since 2016, with the segment of the surfaces between 100 and 150 m2 clearly predominating. In the capital, however, there has been a significant increase in the areas of 100 m2 to the detriment of the immediately lower segment. With regard to housing prices in this area, the study shows a clear increase with respect to those registered in 2016. The homes of less than 150,000 euros have gone from representing 15.9% of the offer to just 4.8% and it is impossible to find a home in this price range in the city of Barcelona, while homes of more than 300,000 euros have increased significantly. 59

With Streetfighter, Iglesias presents images of used mattresses abandoned in the street with different messages written in them. The
artist has inspired himself in songs, films, books that he likes, where a situation is denounced or stated in sentences such as “you will start smoking joints and will end up signing mortgages” or “you sleep too little and you know it”. For Iglesias, the mattress represents metaphorically a place to sleep but he also sees in it a place where the system tries to anesthetize the society. That’s why the artist intervenes the mattress, he graffities it with a sentence and lets the people see it. The artist wants his street intervention to help viewers to reflect on different topics that he’s worried about in the society as well as to awaken him and make him dream. This way, the mattresses become a dairy, a noticeboard but, above all, a private space in a public space where the artist seeks to awaken the citizens. 73
