PALACE OF THE COUNT OF ALBA DE YELTES It is also known as the palace of the Nieto de Silva. It was built in the 18th century and reformed at the beginning of the 20th century.
Su pasado se remonta a épocas prehistóricas como lo atestiguan los vestigios en ella encontrados, pero fueron sin duda La Edad Media y el Renacimiento los dos momentos más gloriosos de la historia de la ciudad.
Martes Mayor y Martes Chico Como exaltación del comercio en el mes de Agosto hay dos martes señalados: El Martes Chico que se celebra el primer martes del mes; y el Martes Mayor se celebra el segundo.

Corría Marzo de 1944 cuando Ciudad Rodrigo fue declarada Conjunto histórico gracias a los tesoros que encierra su doble sistema defensivo, así como un número importante de Palacios renacentistas, un alcázar y una Seo que fue dotada en el siglo XII. PLAZA MAYOR Nuestro punto de partida es la Plaza Mayor, centro neurálgico y punto de encuentro de la villa de planta rectangular, está presidida por la casa consistorial. Edificio porticado del s.XVI. CASA DEL PRIMER MARQUÉS DE CERRALBO Mandada construir por D. Rodrigo Pacheco a mediados del s.XVI.
Feria de Teatro de Castilla y León A finales del mes agosto Ciudad Rodrigo se convierte en Ciudad Teatro, referente para el sector de las artes escénicas. Feria Medieval (octubre) El casco antiguo revive su medievo, con un gran mercado, actividades y la representación de la Conjura de Ciudad Rodrigo. Ferias Ganaderas Se celebran cada cuatro meses con la intención de mantener las tradiciones en una comarca eminentemente ganadera.
IGLESIA DE S. AGUSTÍN Abandonamos la plaza por la Calle S. Juan y nos encontramos con la iglesia de S. Agustín, construida a finales del s.XVI.
IGLESIA DE S. PEDRO O S. ISIDORO De estilo románico, se reconstruyó en el s.XVI gracias a D. Francisco Vázquez que fue enterrado en su interior. Su portada es del s.XVIII.

CONVENTO DE LAS FRANCISCANAS DESCALZAS También conocida como la antigua cárcel, destaca su fachada del s. XVIII.

HOSPITAL DE LA PASIÓN Edificio del s.XVI y construido sobre el antiguo barrio judío, fue una Antigua Sinagoga.
It was March 1944 when Ciudad Rodrigo was declared a Conjunto Histórico (“Historic Grouping”) thanks to the treasures enclosed by its double defensive system, as well as an impressive number of Renaissance palaces, a fortress and a Cathedral that was gifted in the 12th century.
CUARTEL DE ARTILLERÍA En la plaza de Dámaso Ledesma o de los huevos se encuentra el edificio que se construyó en el s. XVIII. PALACIO DE LOS ÁGUILA Es el palacio de mayores dimensiones de la ciudad,s.XVI y XVII, mención especial merece el patio interior porticado de galerías abiertas de estilo renacentista. En la actualidad está convertido en espacio expositivo. PLAZA Y CASTILLO DE ENRIQUE II DE TRASTAMARA En la plaza situada frente al Alcázar, se encuentra una estructura zoomorfa conocida como verraco. Del Castillo, situado en la parte más elevada de la ciudad, resalta su torre del homenaje. En la actualidad es Parador de Turismo. LA CASA DE LA CADENA Su nombre se debe a la cadena esculpida en piedra que bordea la fachada, s.XVI. PALACIO EPISCOPAL Sede de la diócesis de Ciudad Rodrigo del s.XVIII. PALACIO DE LA MARQUESA DE CARTAGO Espectacular palacio construido en la última década del s. XIX, de estilo neogótico. CASA DE LOS MIRANDA En la plaza Isabelina o de San Salvador se encuentra esta casa solariega construida en la segunda mitad del s.XVI. CATEDRAL DE SANTA MARÍA Es el edificio más importante de la ciudad, la manda construir Fernando II de León a finales del s.XII, se proyecta como templo románico, pero como su construcción se demora varios siglos alberga estilos y peculiaridades bien distintas. Cuenta con tres puertas de acceso: las cadenas la puerta de Amayuelas y El Pórtico del Perdón del s.XIII. Su interior con planta de cruz latina destaca el coro del s.XV y el Claustro de los s. XIV y XV. IGLESIA DE CERRALBO Conocida también como la capilla del Sagrario, ordena su construcción Francisco Pacheco de Toledo como capilla funeraria a finales del s. XVI. PLAZA DEL BUEN ALCALDE Plaza porticada también llamada de Bejar o plaza de la verdura por celebrarse cada martes del año un mercado franco, privilegio concedido por los Reyes Católicos en el s.XVI. PLAZA DEL CONDE Puede considerarse como el espacio con más porte de la ciudad por los edificios que la circundan.
PLAZA MAYOR Our starting point is the Plaza Mayor, the heart and meeting point of the rectangular town, that is headed by the town hall. A 16th-century porticoed building. HOUSE OF THE FIRST MARQUIS OF CERRALBO Built by Rodrigo Pacheco in the middle of the 16th century. CHURCH OF S. AGUSTÍN Leaving the square on S. Juan St., we find the church of S. Agustín, built at the end of the 16th century.
SQUARE OF THE POET CRISTOBAL DE CASTILLEJO Also called Campo del Trigo, it owes its name to the Cistercian monk and poet mirobrigense -from Ciudad Rodrigo-. CHURCH OF S. PEDRO AND S. ISIDORO Of Romanesque style. It was rebuilt in the 16th century thanks to Mr. Francisco Vázquez buried inside. Its façade dates from the 18th century. CONVENT OF THE FRANCISCANAS DESCALZAS Also known as the old prison, its 18th-century façade stands out. HOSPITAL DE LA PASIÓN (PASSION HOSPITAL) A 16th-century building built on top of the old Jewish quarter, it was an old Synagogue. CUARTEL DE ARTILLERÍA (ARTILLERY BARRACKS) The eighteenth-century building is located in Dámaso Ledesma, also known as “de los huevos” square. PALACE OF LOS ÁGUILA It is the largest palace in the city, from the 16th and 17th centuries, special mention deserves the inner courtyard porticoed open galleries Renaissance style. It has now been converted into an exhibition space. SQUARE AND CASTLE OF ENRIQUE II DE TRASTAMARA In the square located in front of the Alcázar, there is a zoomorphic structure known as Verraco (“boar”). The Castle, located in the highest part of the city, highlights its keep. Nowadays it’ s a Parador. LA CASA DE LA CADENA (“THE HOUSE OF THE CHAIN”) Its name comes from the chain carved in stone that surrounds the façade, dated from 16th-century. EPISCOPAL PALACE Headquarters of the 18th-century diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo. PALACE OF THE MARQUISE OF CARTAGO Amazing Neo-Gothic palace built in the last decade of the 19th century. MIRANDA’S In Isabelina or San Salvador square, you can find this ancestral home built in the second half of the 16th century.

CATHEDRAL OF SANTA MARÍA It is the most important building of the city, built by Fernando II de León in the late 12th century, it is projected as a Romanesque temple, but as its construction takes several centuries, it has very different styles and characteristics.
PALACIO DEL CONDE DE ALBA DE YELTES También se conoce como palacio de los Nieto de Silva. Fue construido en el s.XVIII y reformado a principios del s.XX.
It features three entrance doors: Las Cadenas (“the chains”), La Puerta de Amayuelas (“the door of Amayuelas”), and El Pórtico del Perdón (“the Forgiveness Portico”) from the 13th century.
Bordeando este palacio nos adentramos en la calle Madrid, una de las principales arterias de la ciudad y calle comercial por excelencia. La calle Madrid termina en la plaza mayor, punto de partida de nuestro recorrido.

EDIFICIOS RELEVANTES FUERA DEL SISTEMA DEFENSIVO Ruinas del Convento de San Francisco, Antiguo Hospicio, Iglesia de San Andrés y el Puente Antiguo. FERIAS, FIESTAS Y EVENTOS Carnaval del Toro Es la fiesta más importante de la ciudad, su origen se remonta al siglo XV y su principal protagonista es el toro con encierros, capeas y novilladas, sin perder el carácter carnavalesco de disfraces, carrozas, desfiles. Semana Santa Las calles de Miróbriga sirven de marco incomparable para revivir el Misterio cristiano.
Easter The streets of “Miróbriga” serve as a unique setting to bring back to life the Christian mystery. La Charrada A festivity of regional tourist interest where the charro folklore is highlighted. It’s celebrated every Holy Saturday. Martes Mayor and Martes Chico As an exaltation of commerce in August, there are two Tuesdays: Martes Chico, which is celebrated on the first Tuesday of the month; and Martes Mayor, which is held on the second Tuesday. Castilla y León Theatre Fair At the end of August, Ciudad Rodrigo becomes Ciudad Teatro, a landmark for the performing arts sector. Medieval Fair (October) The old town revives its Middle Ages, with a large market, activities, and the representation of the Conjura de Ciudad Rodrigo. Farming Fairs They are held every four months to keep the traditions in a region mainly devoted to farming.

CASA DE LA TIERRA Sobrio edificio construido en el s.XVII. En la actualidad alberga la casa municipal de cultura con biblioteca y sala de exposiciones.
SISTEMA DEFENSIVO Debido a su situación estratégica cerca de la frontera de Portugal, la ciudad cuenta con doble sistema defensivo, una Cerca medieval de unos 2km de perímetro, completamente transitables, y a principios del siglo XVIII se añadió al entorno de la Cerca Medieval un Sistema Abaluartado que sirvió para la defensa de la ciudad de los ataques artilleros. Ha necesitado de diferentes sistemas defensivos a lo largo de la historia.
RELEVANT BUILDINGS OUTSIDE THE DEFENSIVE SYSTEM The ruins of the Convento de San Francisco ( San Francisco Convent), Antiguo Hospicio (Old Hospice), Iglesia de San Andrés (San Andrés Church), and the Puente Antiguo (Old Bridge). FAIRS, FESTIVITIES, AND EVENTS Carnaval del Toro (“Bull Carnival”) It is the most important festival in the city, its origin dates back to the fifteenth century, and its main protagonist is the bull with encierros ( running of the bulls), capeas (“ bullfights”) and novilladas (“bullfights”), without losing the carnival character of costumes, floats, parades...
CASA DE LOS VÁZQUEZ Casa solariega del s. XV, con singular portada abierta en ángulo. PLAZA DEL POETA CRISTÓBAL DE CASTILLEJO También llamada Campo del Trigo, debe su nombre al monje cisterciense y poeta mirobrigense.
DEFENSIVE SYSTEM Due to its strategic location near the Portuguese border, the city has a double defensive system, a medieval fence of about 2km perimeter, currently entirely walkable. At the beginning of the 18th century, a bastioned system was added to the surroundings of the Medieval Fence.It was used to defend the city against artillery attacks. The city has required different defensive systems throughout history.
CHURCH OF CERRALBO Also known as the Sagrario chapel, Francisco Pacheco de Toledo ordered its construction as a funeral chapel at the end of the 16th century. PLAZA DEL BUEN ALCALDE A porticoed square, also known as Bejar or Plaza de la Verdura (“Square of Vegetables”) because there is a Mercado franco each Tuesday throughout the year, a privilege awarded by the Catholic Monarchs in the 16th century. PLAZA DEL CONDE (COUNT’S SQUARE) It can be considered as the city’ s most significant space because of the buildings that surround it. CASA DE LA TIERRA This sober building was built in the 17th century. Now hosts the municipal culture center with the Library and Exhibition Hall. PALACIO DE AVILA AND TIEDRA Also known as the palace of Montarco or the Castro family. Plateresque Gothic style, late 15th, and early 16th century. Highlights its facade and the upper floor windows.
