Dress with leggins: the latest proposal for men’s fashion Stylist and Photographer Richard de Grataine Påg. 6

In the last Men Only Monthly, one of the most important men’s fashion events in Second Life, Riot offers us leggins as a new masculine garment. Well adapted to various types of mesh bodies, the problem seemed to be with what type of shoes and for what occasions they can be worn. Let’s see some proposals that will allow us to use them at any time.

New Resident Island Interview with Treacle Darlandes by Richard de Grataine Photographers: Zasha Suoh and Richard de Grataine Pรกg. 28

More than eleven years in Second Life endorse this charming lady whose main interest is to help others in and through the virtual environment of Seconf Life. We have shared some of her ideas and experiences and she has shown us both her Island for the newcomers and the important work of the group to help for people with anxiety, drepression or just want to talk. In Second Life you will never be alone because there are places like the New Resident Island

Richard. We met for the first time at the celebration of SL’s birthday... three years ago? Treacle. Yes, 3 years at least. R. But you’ve been helping in that event for a longer time, right? T. Well,I have done SLB for 4 years but I have been helping newcomers since i was less than one year in SL since I was only a year or less in SL, until in 2010 we established our own area in Lawst Paradise R. You refer to the New Resident Island, speaking of which, how does the project begin? T. The island came about in 2010 when I decided to provide a private help area for the mentor group of which i was co-owner, and also some other very good helpers in Second Life. R. On the island you provide the new residents with clothes and free objects. How have you been finding collaborating stores? T. It is very difficult to get collaborating stores. Designers work very hard to create good quality items and are also now tied with creator licenses so I understand why they find it difficult to give freebies all of the time. We do ask some creators, and others come by and offer a few gifts. R. I have been there, and every time a new avatar arrives. How do you promote your site? T. We rely on the Destination Guide. R. Linden collaborates in advertising? T. We have no collaboration with Linden Lab, it is a privately funded and run help area. R. Everything in English? (Other languages are considered?) T. We have a number of helpers who speak more than one language, also we do use translators. All our material is in English since the majority of the SL community is managed in this language.

R. Are there things for kids? T. There is a good range of starter tools and mesh clothing for SL kids. R.

What other sorts of freebies do you offer?

T. We offer male, female and gender neutral possibilities for avatar shapes and clothing. We also offer fantasy clothes for dressing up, although most of the fantasy clothes are quite old now, however a lot of the newcomers still enjoy them and it gives them an opportunity to have fun with their characters. We also have some new and very cute tiny fairies to help show newcomers that they can ‘be whatever they want’ while in Second Life. R. Other than tutorials and freebies what else do you offer at the New Resident Island? T. Well, it is not just a freebies site and tutorials: You can establish Home there, there is a construction zone where you can get textures, a cinema that allows you to relax or try your media. We offer sites to explore in both sims as well as a guide to interesting destinations. There are places to shop for androgynous avatars, furries, historical... There is also the area for when we are depressed or anxious. I wanted to point out that the merit of all this great project is not only mine, but of those who help and helped, those who collaborate with the tips, the designers who have donated things and all the newcomers that come or have come to our sim and of course of Zanyrob, my sim partner, and Elin - NRI poster artist. *Alone it means nothing. With cooperation we make a nice newcomer island for everyone.*

R. As i see, you are in SL more than eleven years, so you can give us a more accurate picture of Second Life and its evolution. What changes do you see in SL? T. The people are the same. SL has become more commercial of course, which is ok. Also more technical, which is to be expected. It has become more beautiful with talented creators, so perhaps most of all it has become more magical. R. I think that some years ago people became interested in the educational possibilities of SL, but those efforts seem to have dissolved ... You may have another point of view about it. T. Yes, I have seen it too. I feel that SL was too complex and time consuming to learn enough to benefit educators. To be able to protect an educational area from intruders and handle such things that would be required does take time. I am not sure the time needed to be fully equipped to never have any such problems possibly made the possibility too far away. Also the students have to learn how to do things, that takes time too. However I see quite a lot of students do come into SL to do things like psychology. They have to explore and talk to people, then make an analysis. I often wonder what they write about us :) There is an organisation called Virtual Ability. They often have educators come to SL to talk about health and well-being and disability. So educators are still here in many forms. R. I agree: management in this virtual environment is difficult, which makes it difficult for schools and universities to work.

Treacles leads me to the point of arrival to show me something amazing. There is a teleporter in a small corner, with a happy atmosphere and at the same time sweet and relaxed. My hostess explains to me about this site and about the group You Matter. T. Where the newcomers arrive we have our groups to join: one for newcomers, one for mature rl people who are newcomers and the “You Matter” one. I made here a cozy area to sit, with relaxing music. I put a pin board for anonymous messages and suicide feelings information: few things to help calm a troubled mind for a few moments and some supporters to contact. Mostly older residents feeling crisis are the ones coming here. R. But not sure what is the purpose of all of this... T. I will tell you the statement from AraCeLi (raiynebow), founder of the You Matter group. “In Aug 2015 my Real Life brother committed suicide, I had spoken to him two weeks before that and he never said anything about wanting to take his life. I felt so helpless, the “what if’s” were driving me crazy... I could not help him but I wanted to do something in his honor that could help other people, so I had the idea to create a group in SL for people to feel safe in knowing there are people who care, people willing to listen, and talk. Even if someone might have low self esteem and just needing a confidence boost... there is always someone here. My goal for You Matter is to get as many people as possible in the group, people who are serious and caring and willing to be here if someone needs to talk. Everyone on this earth matters and their lives are worth something. Sometimes they just need to be reminded.” In summary, the mission of the group is: Awareness and support for those of us who may have reached a dark time in our lives. If you are feeling really down, at the end of your tether, this is a safe and loving group with people who care! All we can do is listen, but we would like to. With this amazing site full of peace and hope for the residents of Second Life, we bid farewell to Treacle Darlandes. They have been wonderful moments and we hope to help with our magazine to divulge these incredible sites of our SL. Pág. 36

Being a Dj in Second Life Interview with Yerywise by Richard de Grataine Model Yerywise Photographer: Richard de Grataine Pรกg. 44

Yerywise is a relatively new resident in Second Life. Since he arrived, he has moved a lot, meeting people, visiting places, and making friends. We wanted to know a little more about him and his new life in SL

Pรกg. 45

Pรกg. 46

R. Yery, we know that one of your hobbies in RL is to play in the clubs, being practically professional. How was it to start in the world of DJs? Y. Well, from a very young age, my parents instilled in me that passion for electronic music, and it was at the age of 14, when, thanks to the admiration of certain DJs, I decided to start in this world. I remember that I bought a controller for about â‚Ź 70 (all my savings jajaj) I spent hours and hours practicing with it, without too many results. One day I decided to post a message in a forum asking for advice from someone more veteran and it happened that I was just told by two of the djs I admired at that time, residents of one of the strongest clubs in the Valencian Community. They offered me to go to their studio to see how they did it, and then I started to become more interested in this and to learn to use real equipment. R. When you set up a session, what kind of music do you like to show? Y. Mainly the EDM, although after 10 years ... I have gone through several musical styles. I already adapt to almost everything that people ask at that moment. R. What djs inspire you, or which ones do you like most about your sessions? Y. I have several, which have always motivated me a lot in certain aspects: the professionalism of people like Hardwell, Tiesto, or David Guetta ... the madness that Steve Aoki, Deorro, Wildstylez transmit ... See how young Martin Garrix is , and know where it has arrived ... There are many, I could continue like this all day haha

PĂĄg. 47

Pรกg. 48

R. We know you want to bring to Second Life that passion you have in RL for music. Did you find it easy to play DJ here? What differences and what similarities do you see? Y. Yes, here they do not ask for as much curriculum as in RL haha. It’s very different. Here you do not have speakers that make your ribs vibrate, nor can you see 2,000 people in front jumping, but from what little I’ve seen so far, it’s a much healthier environment, more conversation, less fights, people attending events to have fun, and not with other intentions ... R. You have already premiered as a DJ in SL, how was the experience? Y. The premiere was incredible, certainly much better than the RL in which the disco light went (I swear I was not xD). I really liked my premiere here, it was thanks to Richard, at a birthday party, everything was familiar or familiar people, so good vibes were everywhere. He also attended many more people than we expected: they were comfortable with the party to hold until the closing, so he left 10. R. We appreciate you grant us this interview. We were lucky to hear you in session, and we found your professionalism and good taste. We hope to enjoy your sessions many more times. Y. Don’t be smoothie, you know that the discount you already have it! LOL

A walk through Ashbury Cove Ophiel Er’el and Nathanael Sommerfeld show us their wonderful sim.

Stories by Ophiel Er’el Photographer: Richard de Grataine Pág. 54

My friends have built this sim resembling a New England coastal town. It is structured around residential houses with promenade, shops and small businesses, train station, and even a bit of countryside. The careful decoration, the care in the small details and the quality of the structures used have contributed to make the result an environment for you to make great pictures. So, What can we do in Ashbury Cove? On the one hand we have the possibilities of making photographs and machiminas for SL artists, for which the owners generously offer their effort. We can also perform role play based on the present, with houses, shops, businesses ... As possible scenarios. And why not, stroll, meet with friends to explore or simply have a coffee in the village pub. In short, I advise our readers to take a tour of Ashbury Cove and form your own opinion. And enjoy!

Truman train station “The train station was build originally in the late 19th century to make a stop on the way south. The current building dates from 1895. It was renamed in the 60’s to honor president Truman. The train station sees 12 trains a day stop from 6am to 10pm. It is the usual way to reach our beautiful town. It doesn’t take much longer than by plane really and you can enjoy a meal in the restaurant or a cocktail at the bar while watching the picturesque Maine scenery. You can buy newspapers from Mary Mayfied. She is there since her young days. She carried vintage magazines, but she also have all the daily newspapers, so be nice to her, she is sometimes a bit absent and believes she lives in the 60’s”. Pág. 56
