I have had the pleasure of being

employed at one of the greatest clubs in the Country, Lake Nona Golf and Country Club, for more than 7 years. I love it. It’s a phenomenal golf course designed by Tom Fazio and represented by an incredible Membership. I have been blessed with the opportunity to build one of the best Teams in the business. From my administrative assistant, to my Equipment Manager, to my course managers, each and every day we set out to produce the best golf course we can for our Membership. As a Course Manager, I truly believe that we can not achieve greatness alone. We need help to be successful. Same as in life, the happiest and healthiest have an incredible support system around them. So, for me, to have the best conditioned and purest golf course, we need that incredible support system of our Membership to help us create and maintain it. Enduring the consistent pursuit of perfection, calls for the need of therapy. Some of the therapy I seek, comes from my Peer group. In this fast pace life, I know that I have a big gallery of peers on the Internet, specifically on social media. They are always a few quick clicks away.

Social Media is both a gift and a curse. The gift being the exposure to the world and all its joy. The curse being the exposure to the world and all its sin. Most folks in life now have some presence in the social media world. My presence started almost 9 years ago, in my previous position at Sea Island Golf Club in Saint Simons Island, Ga. I joined Twitter to be able to exchange ideas with and learn from my peer group. There was a huge Superintendent contingency within Twitter, and I was certainly able to pick up some tricks, and share a few in return. I would say through the years, one thing has proven itself consistently true, as superintendents, no matter what part of the world we are in, we all battle the same fights. Weather, labor challenges, resource shortages, increase rounds of play are all battles within our War. The commonality of these battles, proven through time, is the lost art of course etiquette. Most of our fights are against uncontrollables. Etiquette is a controllable. All superintendents believe that practicing proper course etiquette is an exercise of intent and time. Do you have the few extra seconds to help out? From raking behind yourselves when exiting bunkers, to properly filling your divots, to fixing your ballmarks on the greens, to following the cart rules for the day, these are all examples of course etiquette that Superintendents are begging and pleading to be upheld on their courses throughout the country. And now, more than ever, we need Golfers the most. With the extreme weather patterns, lack of labor availability, and supply shortages, Golf Course Maintenance crews have the cards stacked against them. The few extra seconds that you can take to execute the proper care of your course would mean the world to the staff that tends to it. If you are unsure how you can help, ask. Seek the response that would help your property the most. The littlest things could be the difference maker in your Course being another Bushwood Country Club or becoming what your course’s Superintendent and their team strive to create for you, each and every day.
