Audubon International Links at Boynton Beach

Are you looking for a family friendly round of golf in Florida? If so, check out The Links at Boynton Beach, a certified member of Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) for Golf. Owned by the city of Boynton Beach, the Links are home to two public golf courses: an 18-hole par 71 championship course and a 9-hole par 30 executive course, better known as the “family course.” On top of being a family friendly destination, the courses are also environmentally sustainable as proven by their continued certification as Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuaries.

The Links at Boynton Beach’s ACSP membership dates back to 2001 and marks the start of their environmental stewardship journey in the following certification focus areas: environmental planning, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, water quality management, wildlife and habitat management, and outreach and education. Both courses were officially certified as Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuaries in 2006 and have continued recertifying every three years since then.

In an excellent example of the positive impact sustainable management on golf courses can have on the environment, The Links put an important project into place after learning about the decline in local screech owl habitat due to growing developments, conversion of natural areas, and natural disasters. The screech owl, the smallest owl species found in Florida, is a cavity nesting bird which relies on holes made by other animals, or mother nature, to raise their young. Such cavities, like woodpecker holes in tree snags, can often be lost in hurricanes and land development. To mitigate for this, The Links at Boynton Beach installed screech owl nesting boxes

Boynton Beach’s habitat management efforts do more than just increase nesting opportunities for screech owls – they link directly to outreach and education by providing tours to community members and families. These guided tours cover different wildlife areas amongst the 27-holes on site and are hosted throughout the year. Perhaps their busiest tour day having been their Concert on the Green/Earth Day Celebration where they hosted 50 tours in 3 hours!
