Landscapes Unlimited Makes Major Host Course Sahalee Even Better

We love it when great golf courses get even better.

To wit: Sahalee Country Club, 30 minutes east of Seattle, squarely fits the bill.

To boot: Several of our Florida brethren of golf professionals and recreational players make the cross-company journey to visit this gem, returning with rave reviews. Thumbs up: Landscapes Unlimited, in collaboration with Rees Jones, Inc., recently completed a bevy of enhancement projects at the private Sahalee.

Work on the nine-hole north, south and east courses primarily included shaping and strategically moving select bunkers to enhance playability for low and high handicappers alike.

The company also implemented the first phase of Jones’ golf course master plan. Focus was primarily on the bunkers. They include improvements to their shapes, sizes, locations and depths, and installation of new drainage, modern liners and bunker sand.

All work contributes to bunkers built for efficient maintenance and longer life spans.

Just in time for Sahalee’s hosting the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

“Sahalee is a Pacific Northwest treasure,” says Jake Riekstins, Chief Development Officer of

Sahalee Players Championship.

Ranging from 5,712 to 7,003 yards, three nine-hole courses played in different combinations inject fun, variety and challenge to experiences. Heavily forested, tall evergreen trees frame fairways laid over rolling topography ideally suited for golf. Strategically placed bunkers and water hazards often create daring moments.

Landscapes Unlimited. “Any time there’s an opportunity to smartly add modern infrastructure to a storied golf course while achieving a golden age style, the results are ‘wow’ experiences for different generations.”

The 27-hole Sahalee is famous for hosting the 1998 PGA Championship, 2002 WGC-NEC Invitational, 2010 U.S. Senior Open, 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship as well as the

Sahalee opened in 1969, its three nines designed by Ted Robinson and renovated by Rees Jones from 1996 to 1998. The original clubhouse was replaced in 2001 with a new, 43,000-squarefoot structure. The first head professional was Paul Runyan who won 29 times on the PGA TOUR, including the 1934 and 1938 PGA Championship, Landscapes Unlimited is the recognized leader in golf course development, construction and renovation. Sister company Landscapes Golf Management boasts a portfolio of 55-plus golf courses, country clubs and resorts nationwide.
