Knowing 3140

R. I. Dist. 3140 speaks...

*Drumrolls*!!! Welcome to the magical world of 3140, where it’s each for all, and all for each. It’s fabulous to see so many clubs come together for this one initiative by the Rotaract Club of H.R. College. Truly, kudos to all the clubs for coming in such a large number, and to R.C.H.R., for getting them all together, in one bulletin. As a District, we have seen six good months. Six loud months of craziness, six months of magic, making new friends, and six months of taking 3140 forward, like always. It has been a great experience working with different people with different work styles, in different times, and constantly testing ourselves. Needless to say, this is exactly the power of Rotaract, and the opportunities that it beholds for each one of us. Time and again, we have risen to the occasion and proven ourselves worthy of the challenge. Our relationship with R.C.H.R. has always been an excellent one, and the mutual respect is always there. As far as Editorial is concerned, I am proud of this bulletin, and all the other Editors in the District too. Time and again, all the clubs have come up with some great issues and bulletins, which is indeed very heartening to see. I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of us that although six months are over, we still have six good months to go... And six months can make a hell of a difference. Together, we can strive to achieve more, and together, we can aim higher. With all our systems in place, and all of us doing a swell job, it makes me want all of you to ask yourselves just one question: What’s next???

- Rtr. Apurva Chaudhari, Editor, R. I. Dist. 3140.

Words From the Wise... R.I. Dist. 3140 - a few words and numbers that define life for most of us. A district so full of clubs and members, that there is never a laidback moment for any of us. Being a proud Rotaractor of Dist. 3140 is one the privileges we have all been entitled to, and it is a superb feeling to pen down my thoughts for the first bulletin of its kind - Knowing 3140. Keeping ourselves in sync with the ‘What’s Next?', we decided to go a step further, and get clubs into the limelight, and give all of them a golden chance to prove their mettle amidst R. I. Dist. 3140. This bulletin focusses on club profile, history, the way the club has grown, rockstars and much more. Reading this bulletin will make you feel like a member of each of these clubs- that’s how close these awesome Editors will bring you into every club. In one of the first bulletins of this sort, I sincerely hope that all of you reading it will feel even more a part of this movement than what we already are. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step- we as a club truly believe that Rotaract is certainly on course to bigger achievements and triumphs this year. A heartfelt Thank You to all the clubs and Presidents, who wrote in at such short notice, and once again, reinstated my belief and faith in the power that this movement holds. After all, some of us are better than all of us, but none of us are as good as ALL of us!

- Rtr. Romeeta Sukhtankar, President 2010-11, Rotaract Club of H.R. College.

From the Editors’ Desk

They say, a few bulletins truly mark a change for the better. A few bulletins define and symbolize much more than what meets the eye. At the very start of our tenure as Editors, the two of us had this one dream bulletin that brought several clubs together. Today, as we stand on the brink of fulfilling that wish, the gush of adrenalin is sky high. It is a pleasure to have so many clubs support this endeavor, and truly, the dream has been fulfilled in a manner nothing short of legendary. The experience of working on this bulletin has been a vastly enriching one, as interacting with so many Presidents, Secretaries and Editors was a very unique experience. To pull off a bulletin with of such a stature in barely a week’s time would have been no mean feat, but the co-operation of so many clubs and the willingness shown, truly personifies the spirit of R.I. Dist. 3140. and this is precisely what we, as Editors, wanted to bring out in our year long tenure. Under the guidance of the District Editor and our proud Buddy Council Member Rtr. Apurva Chaudhari. we have learnt a lot, and the inspiration and motivation to go beyond the ordinary, always stems from her efforts to take Editorial to a new level altogether. All in all, this bulletin marks a red letter day in our lives, and hopefully in our District too. Time and again, they have shown all of us the true meaning of unity. It has been a great journey, and here’s wishing that the most awesome District in the Rotaract fraternity never dies out!

- Rtr. Junaid Khan and Rtr. Yash Muthiyan, Editors 2010-11, Rotaract Club of H.R. College.

Knowing 3140 ROTARACT CLUB OF JAI HIND COLLEGE President: Rtr. Saksham Mendiratta Charter Date: 29th September, 1994 Revival President: Rtr. Anu Torani (2005-06) Club Liner: Where Eagles Dare Club Shout: Don't mess with the best, don't mess. Don't fool with the cool, don't fool. Don't mess with the best; don't fool with the cool; Coz R.C.J.C.'s here to rule. Club theme: Why Not!!! About Us: It was on the 29th of September 1994, that a new club on the block, Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College, was chartered. Post-that, however, things didn't really go upswing. In fact, R.C.J.C. faced a slack period for a brief time; before the club was revived by Rtr. Anu Torani. The lyrics of a popular song go, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” In this case, R.C.J.C. had a really long “tough going”. This is one club that truly struggled to its way to the top. And then at last, we reached the light at the end of the tunnel. Holding the beacon of light was Rtr. Dhaval Shah, president (200910). Having nothing to back on, Dhaval changed what R.C.J.C. stood for and the way people perceived the club. It was in 2009, that R.C.J.C. slowly and steadily moved ahead of the line. In 2010, Dhaval passed on the torch to Rtr.Saksham Mendiratta. Armed with Dhaval as the I.P.P. and a fantastic set of directors, Saksham took the club to its rightful place on the top. And so today, we stand a club proud of ourselves and the road we've traversed. A dialogue from the movie Peaceful Warror goes, “It's the journey, not the destination.” We at R.C.J.C. couldn't agree more!

ROTARACT CLUB OF BOMBAY AIRPORT President: Rtr. Hrishabh Sanghavi About Us: The Rotaract Club of Bombay Airport was a dormant Club, revived under the President ship of Rtr. Deep Mehta in 2009-10. They are so committed towards it that we end up teasing the charter members that they have married the club. Well like any other club you’ll see that we do the best of our projects in Club Service! Though many of us are working, we see to it that we have all of them whenever we have a party in the club; and I’ll tell you we have to hang out after every project we do… That’s the celebration of completing a project and that’s the motivation to do all the projects!

Club’s Journey: Club was an effort of merely 7 -10 guys of RJ college in the year 2006. From then MMS has been proving its mark time and again. Now in 2010, we have membership of 30 members with 20 active members. But the journey has not been simple. Gone through ups and downs we have tried to give our best. There have been times when we have only 3-4 members for a project but still the club has the zeal to make the best of the projects with enthusiasm. The outcome was we were ranked 7th in the district for the year 2008-09 and doesn’t matter how difficult or easy the journey is but we all out here enjoy being a part of the club and live like a family!

Ritu Chaudhary Club Theme: Leave Your Mark Club Theme: 2010-11: The Legend Lives On... Club Shout: What's hot, say it loud? R.C.H.R.'s in the house! Club Liner: Fall in the limelight, be an R.C.H.R.'ite! Club Font: Kingthings Petrock Club Motto: Grab the Chance, Make A Difference History: The Rotaract Club of H.R. College was chartered in 1986, and since then has seen a glorious path to success. While there were a few teething problems in the start, the turn of the new century saw things change in the club like never before. Since then, the only way forward has been upwards. With presidents of great calibre having presided over this club, we literally charted our own course to the top. To be awarded Best Club in R.I. Dist. 3140 for 5 consecutive years is no mean feat. Being an institution based club also means that we have a lot more to exploit with an atmosphere congenial for developement. Currently, we are in the 25th year, and the journey has been an enthralling one. Each of us wake up every morning thinking on the lines of how we can take the club forward. It is tough doing so much every day, but as they say, ‘’If the love is strong, the roadblocks take care of themselves.’’

About Us: At the Rotaract Club of H.R. College, we are defined by who we are and what we do. We are a group of zealous individuals who have taken upon ourselves the mantle of bringing about a change. A change that defies the world and one that changes the way people live. We give today's youth a platform to mould themselves into well-rounded individuals, and in the bargain, do a world of good. Be it serving the community, or be it building cultural exchanges, we are driven towards our goals with undying passion and commitment. Being proactive is the call of the hour, and that is the one trait we instill in our members from the very beginning. We have dedicated ourselves towards a happier world, with happier people and many more smiles. Through the year we do almost a total of 500 projects. While Club Service helps members build bonds through signature projects like Monsoon Trek, Prom Nite, Surivor and Speed, Community Service has always been the heart of the club. It helps the society in every aspect possible, be it a drawing competition for the underprivileged or several fun trips to old age homes. We also organised A Live Ghazal Concert by Padmashree Pankaj Uddhas in aid of thallasaemic kids last year, where we gave proceeds worth 2.5 lakhs to the cause from the event. At Professional Development, we aim to get the members to think differently, and sharpen their brains to the fullest. We organise Vogue- the only inter-school personality development competition in the city of Mumbai. International Service sees the club go out to the world, with several trips through out the year, in India and abroad too. We have also been organizing We Are the World, the only interschool international Culture Festival in the City of Mumbai for the past ten years in this avenue. This event sees over 1500 school students participating. With fun being an integral part of everything we do, we ensure that every member grows holistically. We culminate these people into extraordinary people with a larger than life vision. We know what it is to be the best at what we do. With aims that are crystal clear, defining us would be very easy indeed. We are R.C.H.R.!
