Consistency... At Rogers Bar HR, consistency is a vital
element in our program. For over 50 years, we have been consistent with practical management and our total forage program has not changed. We have not deviated from our commitment “to produce seedstock that will improve the economic efBiciency of America’s beef herds.”
Our emphasis on light birth weights,
calving ease, mothering ability and milk have earned Rogers Charolais national recognition as one of this nation’s strongest maternal herds. We do not get excited about a few extremes, however, we are concerned about the pounds of beef weaned per cow exposed. Rogers Bar HR places a great deal of emphasis on balanced EPDs. We are concerned about production cost and believe that thrifty, trouble free cattle are the most proBitable.
We invite you to call or come by next year and visit us at Roger Bar HR

VIEWPOINT
CHAROLAIS @ 107 Years Ageless and Timeless
The 107th edition of the National Western Stock Show is upon us. Think about it
for a moment. To say things were different then is a monumental understatement. The inaugural show lasted six days and had a grand total of 336 beef cattle entries representing four breeds. Six hundred students from Colorado State University traveled by train to compete, bringing their own livestock. CSU pretty much “ran the table” in the show ring which prompted a rule change that disqualified them from competing the following years. While the National Western has successfully evolved in the past century to secure its position as one of the nation’s premier livestock events, there are many similarities today. Since the beginning, the National Western and Denver city leaders have consistently gone to Herculean efforts to connect its citizens with agriculture. Most anyone will point to the enormous economic impact the stock show has on the Denver economy. No doubt that’s a fact. However, more than a hundred years
Fast-forward to the mid 1960s and registered beef production landscape began to change dramatically. For the first time, the consumer began to send signals regarding the beef being sold in the meat case and they were no longer satisfied customers. Packers began to look for alternatives to traditional British genetics. In 1966, Charolais was the first Continental breed to carve a name in National Western history. By 1981, 12 breeds were exhibiting and selling seedstock. The Fed Beef Contest at the National Western initiated in 1964, may have been the greatest catalyst for change, although few recognized it at the time. The Fed Beef Contest continues today. Producers enter a six head group. The group is evaluated live and on the rail. The carcasses are graded for quality and yield and a three-judge panel selects the top five out of the six head group. The Fed Beef Contest was one of the first competitions that combined visual appraisal and actual carcass grading. Since selection pressure from the consumer was moving toward leaner beef, it
“...the beef industry will potentially be showcased to nearly three-quarters of a million folks, most far more removed from agriculture than spectators a century ago.” ago, Denver city fathers and local opinion leaders representing our livestock interest recognized the need and the value to connect a consumer with meat animal food production. If the NWSS fathers recognized the critical importance of a consumer understanding where their food comes from in 1906, measuring the importance of that same consumer today is almost impossible. Staging the first National Western in the middle of the Denver stockyards was no accident. Clearly, the intent was to establish Denver as a western cattle market with the potential for packing facilities to rival Chicago and Kansas City. And, why not? Denver had more than adequate railroads that ran through the middle of the stockyards. Roads into and out of Denver were as good as anywhere considering the time. Yet, western producers had to ship cattle east to market and suffered significant price differentials in doing so. Given the complexity of meat animal production and the cow-calf business today, some may argue the historical value of the National Western. In fact, as volatile and difficult as surviving in the beef business is currently, some may see little value in “where we came from” at all. Arguably, history repeats itself. The first NWSS featured Hereford, Angus, Shorthorn and Galloway. Hereford continued to be the dominant breed for the next 60 years. Beef producers had one and only one tool to evaluate cattle and that tool was their eyesight. No statistical information, no genomic information, no production records, no scientific studies. Phenotype was the only selection criteria. A cowman may have had perceptions or anecdotal information based on his use of particular genetics, but there was no information to accurately predict performance.
wasn’t long before Continental breeds were dominating the Fed Beef Contest. For progressive beef producers, the take away messages are many. The 2013 NWSS will feature approximately 20 breeds of cattle. For 16 days, the beef industry will potentially be showcased to nearly three-quarters of a million folks, most far more removed from agriculture than spectators a century ago. Producers can interact directly with other registered and commercial producers, potential buyers, as well as consumers with no connection to agriculture. A century ago, producers read about the Stock Show days and weeks later in livestock publications. For the most part, only basic information was reported. This year, producers as well as spectators can report to the world, literally second by second, through social media such as Facebook or Twitter, make real time website updates, and participate in media events instantly broadcast around the world. We have an opportunity to show customers the newest genetics as well as educate a consumer interested to learn about where their food comes from. Stop by the AICA hospitality tent in the yards anytime from Thursday, January 17 through Sunday, January 20 and visit with fellow Charolais breeders, commercial producers and the AICA staff. Also, we encourage you to attend the many Charolais events on the hill and in the yards: ROE Pen Bulls & Female Show—Saturday, Jan. 19 (in the yards); Charolais In The Rockies Sale—Sunday, January 20 (on the hill); NWSS ROE Show—Monday, January 21 (on the hill). These events will showcase the top genetics to be offered by Charolais producers anywhere in America.

Obituary Marvin Dewayne Nichols, 77, of Ankeny, IA, passed away November 1, 2012. Marvin was born in rural Polk County, IA, on May 20, 1935, to Norman and Lois Nichols. He was the oldest of five children. He attended Ankeny High School where he met his wife of 52 years, Janet, as they rehearsed for the junior class play. Marvin and Janet’s life motto was, “Corn, Cattle and Kids.” The couple owned and operated their family farm, (I-Own-A-Farm) from 1956 until the present day. Together they built and managed Nichols Cryogenics, Inc., a bull stud service. Marvin judged state, regional and national cattle shows. He owned and exhibited many champion bulls and heifers. In 1986 he exhibited the World Champion Charolais bull. As a leader, Marvin was a board member for the American International Charolais Association, Treasurer and Executive Board member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association and President of the Beef Improvement Federation. Marvin’s five children, his “Nichols’ worth”, were provided 31 years of college and enjoyed 33 years of 4H together. He encouraged creativity, accountability and a lifestyle of integrity for his children. Marvin’s word and hand shake were all that was ever needed. He was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and instilled his strong belief in Jesus Christ as his personal savior to each of his family members. Marvin is survived by his five children: Jenifer (Cendyl) Buttz of Slater, IA; Mark (Sheila) Nichols of Pender, NE; Eric (Cynthia) Nichols of St. Joseph, MO; Ann Nichols of Ankeny, IA; and Heather (Pete) Haug of Knapp, WI. Marvin had eight grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Roger (Sharon) Nichols of Prairie City, IA: Gaylord (Sue) Nichols of Jefferson City, MO; and one sister, Judy Mautz of Cleveland, MO. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, his parents, and his infant brother, Stephen. As one long-time family friend said about Marvin (and Janet), “Marvin and Janet were gifted to make everyone feel like family. They had a special and rare talent that is difficult to find in families today. Both were warm and caring people who would open the door of their house to many they didn’t know and develop friendship with everyone there.” Memorials may be made to the “Marvin Nichols Memorial” at 409 Boone Street, Slater, IA 50244. Memorial monies will be donated to various care giving institutions.

tools for the Charolais breed. Since the inception of EPD we’ve known they were only as useful and as accurate as the information reported. This remains true as we move forward into the genomic era of genetic prediction. Speaking recently at a conference at the University of Missouri, Dr. Jerry Taylor, Wurdack Chair of Animal Genomics at the University of Missouri, stated that “Genomic accuracies depend on EPD accuracies of the training populations”. The purpose of the recent AICA program to build a database of 50K genotypes is to use the Charolais database as the training population to build genomic tools. This will allow for an increase in the accuracy of selection on younger bulls and heifers, thereby increasing the accuracy of selection for those traits where genomic EPD are available. The more complete the AICA performance database, the more accurate our selection will be through the use of these tools. Performance reporting starts with breeding and calving records. Making sure we have the correct breeding information recorded is important so that the performance of every calf is credited to the correct sire and dam. This is followed with recording of calving and weaning information, including that we make sure we get the pasture codes recorded correctly so that accurate contemporary groups can be formed during the genetic evaluation process. Perhaps one of the most overlooked opportunities to record performance data is for yearling calves. By recording yearling weights, scrotal measurements and ultrasound data we can greatly increase the accuracy of EPD for those traits in our genetic evaluation. Improvements in technology will continue to allow for better prediction tools for genetic merit in the future. And as in the past it’s a working relationship between breeders, the association, research and science.

RANCHINGSTRATEGIES Working Techniques from Around the Country
Keeping Cows Close Increases Weaning Profits By Linda Eck
Maintaining weight and moving calves quickly from the suckling stage into post-weaning can mean increased profits for cattlemen who can find the right combination of management practices for breaking the bond between mamma cows and their calves. And, as with many things, what works best on one farm or ranch, may not work at all on another. One of those practices is fenceline weaning. Not every cattle operation is set up to keep their cows and calves nose-to-nose after separating them, but with a few adjustments it could turn into an easy and stress-free way to decrease the amount of time required to wean calves and still keep them gaining. Drawing increased interest over the past decade, breaking the bond by allowing cows and calves to see, hear and smell one another with the use of a wellbuilt weaning fence has resulted in calm, stress-free and healthy calves that continue to grow and gain weight. By keeping calves in a familiar environment with the cow close by, ranchers can let the cow finish her job by seeing the calf through one of the most stressful times of its life. By keeping stress to a minimum, ranchers can increase their profits as calves bawl less and eat more with the cows looking on. Research studies at the University of California-Davis headline the statistics for this weaning protocol, reporting fenceline-weaned calves gaining as much as 50 percent
more weight than those weaned through more traditional practices. They also reported calves showing fewer signs of stress as those abruptly pulled from their mothers, regardless of whether they were placed in dry lot or pasture conditions. Research and trial demonstrations from around the country continue to support this management process, showing that in most instances calves allowed nose-tonose contact with only a fence separating them from their mothers ate more and rested more than their counterparts who were taken from their dams and placed in an unfamiliar environment. Less time spent walking the fence and bawling results in increased feed efficiency, healthier calves, a calmer demeanor and lower mortality rate. Of course, fenceline weaned calves on pasture have an even greater advantage as they have the opportunity to maximize the steady availability of a food source they are already accustomed to consuming in addition to feed and hay. After the first seven days, all calves in the California research project were managed together, revealing another important factor when considering the pros and cons of weaning management. The fenceline-weaned calves were able to maintain their jump start, out-performing their dry lotweaned counterparts by 24 pounds after two weeks and 31 pounds after 10 weeks. And, as most will agree, keeping calves growing and on track is valuable whether the calves are headed into a backgrounding regime or registered bull and heifer development programs. Finding the right mix of management practices to make that happen adds to the challenges of ranching in the 21st century. Two major factors in designing a fenceline weaning protocol: Keep the calves in a familiar environment. This means moving the cows, not the calves at weaning time. Calves should have already spent at least several days in the pasture, before moving the cows into an adjoining field. An effective fence is a must. Whether it’s a barbwire fence encircled with hot wire, pipe, woven wire or high-tensile the calves are already used to, this is obviously the key to keeping the process stress free.
By keeping stress to a minimum, ranchers can increase their profits as calves bawl less and eat more with the cows looking on.

No one deserved to be Lot 1 more. This is the best heifer to ever leave B.J. and Chris’s joint ET program. She is a full sister to the $41,000 sale topper in Texas everyone is talking about. Her jet-necked, big-bellied, great hipped, sound footed physical appearance is enough to excite anyone. n Her National Champion sire is putting them out there and why shouldn’t he: his sire is a National Champion, two of his full sisters were National Champions, his sire’s dam is a National Champion! Then throw in Cigar, Ms Bud 418-1128 and Ms Bud 418 and it all adds up. n As B.J. says, this chick is the real deal, don’t miss out! She is not only a power show heifer, but a donor in the making. She was hard to part with, but they were willing to offer their best and here she is. n

Choice of Silver Spur Pen of Heifers
They came to the pen and carload show in Denver last year and scared the crap out of other exhibitors! The Silver Spur crew will load up the guns again and are bringing an even better set of cattle this year. This is one of the up and coming power Charolais herds building in the west. Can’t wait till the National Western Stock Show to see what you might own? Travel to their Colorado or Wyoming herds and look at a few hundred open heifer calves, to make sure the Silver Spur crew picked the right ones to bring to Denver. Silver Spur Ranch’s Charolais herds date back to the 1950’s. With this long history comes an unwavering commitment to produce Charolais genetics that work for both commercial and registered cattlemen. The exact three head of heifers that will make up this selection hadn’t been narrowed down at catalog printing time, so a supplement of that information will be available closer to sale date. Call or write for detailed pedigree information and pictures. n Selection must be made in the ring!

Here is an opportunity to pick any heifer calf born in 2012 and a flush from the small yet mighty Holen herd. Lacy hit the National spotlight after raising and selling the National Reserve Grand Champion Female and the Junior National Grand Champion Female the summer and fall of 2007. HC Miss Jewel 20S Pld was shown by Nick Curtis, Mexico, Missouri. “Jewel” or “Dakota” as they called her streamed from a long line of maternal giants at the Holen Charolais Ranch. In fact her great granddam #629 is 16 years old and still producing there and is heading to the transplant facility this winter along with “Jewels” dam 18M. n This is a unique double offering: Lot 5A – Selling Choice of their spring 2012 heifer calf crop, including the two heifer calves she will show in Denver or go to the ranch and select there. Selection to be made prior to April 1, 2013. Lot 5B – Guaranteed Successful Flush in HC Miss Jewel 18M, the dam of HC Miss Jewel 20S Pld. Flush work to be done at Yackley Ranches in South Dakota. Power is the best and only word we can think of to best describe this female. The Dix brothers have had their eye on this heifer since birth, knowing she had the potential to show, win and be a donor. They tell me it was extremely hard to decide to part with her, but they couldn’t have raised a better one to represent the Bar D Ranch Charolais herd. She has already been named Supreme Champion at her first big show. Her sire was purchased from the famed Lindskov-Thiel Bull Sale when 2/3 interest sold for $15,000. This is the typical type of daughters he has produced for them. Her dam has been a phenomenal cow in their program. Born in 2004 in the Hubert Charolais Ranch herd her first two daughters had an average adj. weaning weight of 670 lbs. ratio 106 and one bull calf at 715 lbs. ratio 110. Three daughters have sold into purebred herds. Look at this picture and pedigree, it’s all here, POWER! She sells bred to LT Bluegrass 4017 Pld for a fall calf. Selling Choice of 1st Calf Heifers
Last year in Denver during the Charolais in the Rockies sale the Cobb family offered this selection for the first time in many years. They were rewarded with that pick of the 2010 first-calf-heifers selling for $7,100 after a contested bid off. Breeders from across the country were in the seats with their hands up, on the cell phones to the sales staff or on the internet. Riverdale Land and Livestock took the selection home. Bill Nottke knew exactly why he wanted it, he had purchased ABC Latora Lazodoble J847 years ago as a pick of the herd. The Cobb herd is one of the few “closed herds” in the Charolais breed. There is close to 100 head of straight-bred Cobb pedigrees to choose from and they are due to calve starting March 1 through April 15th. They would like this selection to be made by May 15, 2013, after all those heifers have calved out. Opportunity knocks in this beautiful Montana ranch, come and take home a great one.

If you don’t like one of those, but we know you will, you may select any MDL raised female in the herd. Donor dam of females to be selected from:

Eatons Impact 7032 Daughter Top 15% Milk, 20% YW
This exciting offering created so much interest last year that the Eaton family will again open their herd for the winning bidder to select two bred heifers from over 400 head. Last year Wienk Charolais took two bred heifers at $6,750, Southern Cattle Company two at $7,000 and Riverdale two at $6,600. 250 head were bred AI to their new herd sires; LT Blue Mountain, ($75,000) LT Ledger ($105,000), LT Blue Blood ($53,000) and Eatons Blue Leader. n Now, for an even better deal! These selections may be done after these bred heifers calve this spring. Go and select pairs; you will know the sex of the calf, make sure they are AI sired, make sure they have perfect udders and you get to pick two pairs! This is a nobrainer. n 275 of these heifers are in the top 10% of the breed for Milk EPD, all above a +13 Milk number. n Selection to be made by April 1, 2013.

n Last
year Creek Cut Ranch brought the Reserve Grand Champion Pen-of- Bulls to Denver, which included bulls that sold for $6,000 and $7,300. This year they bring you this herd sire prospect that is a paternal brother to those bulls and looks even better. n These “Beam” progeny have been exciting this past year including daughters that sold as weaning age calves for $5,000, $3,750 and $10,000. Unfortunately OBGCE Beam was lost at an early age and his semen inventory is minimal, so get in on the ground floor. n His dam is a full E.T. sister to last years high-selling bred cow in The Showgirls Sale at Ridder Farms and goes back to RLL Goin’ Places, National Reserve Grand Champion and $14,000 donor. n He has it all; low birthweight, 800 pound weaning weight, a fall long-yearling ready to breed lots of females this coming spring, and pedigree superiority. WOW! When the folks at Silver Spur Ranch bring one to town you know it’s going to be a good one. Spur Choteau is a powerful, multi-dimensional herdsire prospect. This bull calf combines some of the most proven sires and cow families in the DeBruycker program with the phenotype that the Silver Spur program is fast becoming known for. n Choteau is thick, square-ended, good footed, exceptionally sound and designed to sire cattle that will work in the purebred or club calf circles. Don’t overlook his numeric package because he has the right kind of growth…..pounds in a moderate package. n Selling one-half interest and full possession, with the option to double down. n If the buyer doubles the bid and takes everything, Silver Spur Ranch reserves the right to collect 300 units of semen at their expense to be used for in herd use only. If you are looking for a big time herd sire prospect with performance and eyeappealing conformation, check this one out. He comes into Denver after an exciting start to his show career. At only seven months of age DeeJay wins the Grand Champion bull spot at the 2012 Nebraska State Fair. He then shocks some of the “big boys” from other breeds, when he places 3rd during the Supreme Championship drive against all breeds. The Supreme judges declares him, “this calf is just a stud.” Now consider the weaning performance heritage of his pedigree. His sire had a 792 pound weaning weight. His dam’s first two daughters had adjusted weaning weight ratios of 104 and 108. Her last bull calf born in 2010 had a 683 lbs. adj weaning weight to ratio 111 to rank #1 out of 16 bull calves in their herd and this bull comes in at 740 lbs., but was ratio’d by himself because he was showed. They wouldn’t even sell this bull if they didn’t already have a full brother as their herd sire now and he was the Grand Champion bull at the 2010 State Fair. Selling ¾ interest and full possession. Mac Smith is well-known and documented as a successful breeder and judge of the shows in the U.S.. This female is his most successful Charolais donor. He refers to her as “Char” and that’s the name the club calf industry knows her by. She was the 2006 Grand Champion Female at the North American Junior Show. A flush sold shortly thereafter for $8,250 in the Frozen Gold Sale in Denver and then a year later selling for $13,500. Adam Odden purchased a flush in 2011 and turn it into a $17,000 percentage heifer for the clubby business. Mac had originally purchased her from Odden Charolais Ranch and they knew what they were doing by going back to her. Char is due to calve in early February and will be ready to flush at that time. She has averaged over 13 embryos per flush. A minimum of seven (7) transferable embryos is guaranteed.

He has quickly established himself as a breeding bull. 8 of his sons averaged $5,406 this past spring at David Hubert’s Bull Sale. n JCH MS Bull Dozer blends together the best of many bloodlines from Canada and the U.S. including HTA Whitehot, Mr Perfect, LT Easy Pro and Unlimited Ease. She has performance bred in. When she weaned off at 752 lbs. and ratio’d 115, to rank 10th out of 156 head you had to pay attention. An opportunity to flush one of the only breeding age females ever sold out of the famed Lindskov-Thiel program. LT Blue Ballerina 9405 Pld was Abbey Thiels choice for a show heifer out of all of the 2009 born heifer calves at Lindskov-Thiel Ranch. Her selection was correct as she went on to be selected the Reserve Division Champion at the Junior Nationals in 2010 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. That maybe didn’t seem that shocking until two months later when two of the heifers she beat in division that day went on to be the National and Reserve National Champion Females in Kansas City! Mike Kisner put her on his to buy list. n Her dam is an AICA Dam of Distinction and a flush in her sold for $8,000 in the 2011 Charolais in the Rockies Sale. She hasn’t been flushed a lot, but she has been successful with several progeny. The first daughter that sent her recognition was ACE-JJS Kirbe Firebud! She was many times a champion for Calvin Dix culminating with her Supreme Champion selection at the competitive 2009 Kansas State Fair. Two more successful show heifers were WIA Miss Trixie’s Delight and WIA Miss J Lo Pld for Echo Nord in Illinois. Big H Ranch sent Big H Cool Drink of Water to the Deutsch’s for $4,000 in the 2011 Northern Exposure. Matt Loggain’s bought a daughter for $4,800 from Ridder Farms to win many jackpots in Arkansas. And finally the Gall’s in Nebraska made one that has scared lots of breeders in the shows. Buy into a proven producer of winners. She will be ready to flush shortly after the Denver Stock Show at the Polzin Embryo Center and that flush can easily be made exportable.

Relatively unknown breeder Adrian Harris has quietly over the years, gathered up some of the best genetics available in the Charolais breed. Here is one of these masterpieces. This mating is the next step in the well-known Thomas Ranch and Polzin Cattle genetic success stories. The sire of these embryos is the 2012 National Western Grand Champion Diablo that had three weaned daughters average $6,500 in the 2012 Northern Exposure Sale. The dam of these embryos is another of the sleepers, but a full sister to the three National Champions Firegirl, Ivory Angel and Turton. A mating to set your satchel down on!

There is none bred like her in the world! A one-of-a-kind! She is the Kats Meow. Her dam is one of the only Nutmegs Avignon FR31 “The King of Cow Country” daughters remaining alive today. His daughters put the famous Double Hook Ranch on the map. They were deep-bodied, heavy-milking, structurally perfect brood cows. We could use more like them today! n SS The Kats Meow is sired by Stacker, the breeds $240,000 sire and done that before eight months of age! His sire is AJ, a two-time National Champion Bull. Sonderup Charolais won the Nebraska Cattleman’s Classic and had high-seller with a daughter, Keith Herr raised Cool Whip by him, Odden’s won South Dakota Spotlight Show with a Stacker. Sullivan’s bought a $8,000 Stacker daughter, a Heat Wave daughter out of Stacker’s dam sold for $37,000! The Stacker partners went on the ride of their lives. There is genetic power in this female. n

An opportunity like this does not present itself often enough! A straight bred HooDoo donor! She sells with a 12 embryo guarantee if flush work completed at Polzin Embryo Center in Minnesota where she resides today. Her sire 7090 was the next bull of two head that was on HooDoo manager George Brown’s radar for future generations of HooDoo’s. This female is linebred HooDoo George 8083 who is best know as “Dot” and is the bull that the Charolais Journal uses the famous picture of in promotion of our breed….the bull standing on the side of the mountain in the sage brush. Z1054 first calved in 2003 to Red Angus sire. They did not register cattle after 2002. In 2006 she was sold from HooDoo and was leased to a prominent club calf producer where many Friction ET’s were produced, until 2012 when she was sent to Polzin Embryo Center. Z1054’s dam is still in production at 17 years of age and is the lead donor at Leo Brothers. Two daughters were sold into the club calf world in 2010 for $7,250 and $6,200, the last a Monopoly heifer that had an extremely successful jackpot show career. And now the icing on the cake - She sells with 3 units of semen and 3 signings of your choice of twenty-six HooDoo sires from the original HooDoo semen bank, including Slasher and Prince’s sires!

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION LONGRANGE™ (eprinomectin) should be given only by subcutaneous injection in front of the shoulder at the recommended dosage level of 1 mg eprinomectin per kg body weight (1 mL per 110 lb body weight). WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS Withdrawal Periods and Residue Warnings Animals intended for human consumption must not be slaughtered within 48 days of the last treatment. This drug product is not approved for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, including dry dairy cows. Use in these cattle may cause drug residues in milk and/or in calves born to these cows. A withdrawal period has not been established for pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal. Animal Safety Warnings and Precautions The product is likely to cause tissue damage at the site of injection, including possible granulomas and necrosis. These reactions have disappeared without treatment. Local tissue reaction may result in trim loss of edible tissue at slaughter. Observe cattle for injection site reactions. If injection site reactions are suspected, consult your veterinarian. This product is not for intravenous or intramuscular use. Protect product from light. LONGRANGE™ (eprinomectin) has been developed specifically for use in cattle only. This product should not be used in other animal species. When to Treat Cattle with Grubs LONGRANGE effectively controls all stages of cattle grubs. However, proper timing of treatment is important. For the most effective results, cattle should be treated as soon as possible after the end of the heel fly (warble fly) season. Environmental Hazards Not for use in cattle managed in feedlots or under intensive rotational grazing because the environmental impact has not been evaluated for these scenarios. Other Warnings: Underdosing and/or subtherapeutic concentrations of extended-release anthelmintic products may encourage the development of parasite resistance. It is recommended that parasite resistance be monitored following the use of any anthelmintic with the use of a fecal egg count reduction test program. TARGET ANIMAL SAFETY Clinical studies have demonstrated the wide margin of safety of LONGRANGE™ (eprinomectin). Overdosing at 3 to 5 times the recommended dose resulted in a statistically significant reduction in average weight gain when compared to the group tested at label dose. Treatment-related lesions observed in most cattle administered the product included swelling, hyperemia, or necrosis in the subcutaneous tissue of the skin. The administration of LONGRANGE at 3 times the recommended therapeutic dose had no adverse reproductive effects on beef cows at all stages of breeding or pregnancy or on their calves. Not for use in bulls, as reproductive safety testing has not been conducted in males intended for breeding or actively breeding. Not for use in calves less than 3 months of age because safety testing has not been conducted in calves less than 3 months of age. STORAGE Store at 77° F (25° C) with excursions between 59° and 86° F (15° and 30° C). Protect from light. Made in Canada. Manufactured for Merial Limited, Duluth, GA, USA. ®The Cattle Head Logo is a registered trademark, and ™LONGRANGE is a trademark, of Merial. ©2012 Merial.
