LIBERTYFEST STILL BEING PLANNED Ray Hibbard
Probably the most disappointment from a canceled event in 2020 came from LibertyFest. It is such a special event here in Edmond and honestly, in the state. Our summer and 4th of July was just not going to be the same without the nationally recognized event. However, it turned out to be the best decision by the organizers. There is no doubt that it would have turned into a super spreading event and nobody associated with LibertyFest wanted to be responsible for that kind of tragedy. Folks should know that even though you won’t find a schedule of events for LibertyFest listed in our calendar this year, it is still being planned. Marketing director for LibertyFest, June Cartwright, told us that planning is in full swing and if it is at all possible to have the event safely, LibertyFest will go on. We are all hopeful and it would be a big boost to our community to once again join together for the big celebration. Safety of participants and volunteers will always come first with the LibertyFest committee. Many organizations and their events find themselves in the same boat for 2021. They are moving full steam ahead with the understanding that plans could change. There were so many organizations that had activities planned that we felt compelled to support their bold efforts by publishing the event listings as planned again this year. With that comes the understanding that there are sure to be changes in many of the activities. Because of that we urge you to use this calendar as your guide for what is supposed to happen but to always check with each organization to be certain of dates and times. Some, as this year, may need to turn virtual but it is the hope of all of us that those will become fewer and fewer as 2021 marches on. We encourage you to support all the organization in this calendar of events. So many of the activities are part of their fund raising efforts which were thwarted in 2020. They want and need our support. As always we appreciate the advertising support which makes this calendar possible and pledge the profit from this publication to go back to charitable organizations here in Edmond. We will keep you updated on these events in our regular weekly newspaper and update the calendar on our web site, www.edmondlifeandleisure.com. It is our honor to serve Edmond as the only locally owned and operated newspaper. We take our responsibility seriously. Ray Hibbard Publisher Edmond Life & Leisure
