up.”In their short time being open, Twist ed Tree has already become known for their homemade bread. Customers can find country sourdough, butter flaxseed, honey wheat loaf, and more. The bread recipes were created by head baker Kassie Joslin who is also Robert’s sister.

Tree is a local and fami ly-owned bakery that opened in down town Edmond in August. Customers can find croissants, cookies, various types of breads, and many other items.

“My grandmother was half-German so a lot of the foods, pastries, and breads we made growing up were German,” said Robert. “For our birthdays and our special occasions, my grandmother

would make this sweet German cake called kuchen so we brought that here to the bakery as something that we could offer every day to people because it was close and special to us growing

“I would say the cornerstone of our pastry programs is our housemaid croissant dough, and most people don’t realize how difficult it is to make crois sant dough. You know, there’s probably less than a dozen people in the state of Oklahoma that make their own crois sant dough,” said Robert. “We make our own croissant dough. It’s a threeday process from start to finish.”

“What I think is the cornerstone of our breads is our house made sour dough. It’s a country sourdough with only three ingredients, flour, water, and salt. In fact, we don’t even add yeast be cause there’s a natural yeast that we use in our starter that helps the bread rise,” said Robert. “There’s nothing artificial or preservative in there. So, we’ve found that, that artisanal, old world style country sourdough not just tastes great, but actually makes people feel better when they eat it.”

This combined with his sister’s talent for making bread took Twisted Tree from an idea to a reality.

Another popular item in the bakery are the homemade croissants.

There’s nothing better than a fresh ly-baked loaf of bread on an autumn morning or a sweet pastry with coffee on a cold winter day. Thanks to Twisted Tree Bakery, located at 111 N. Broad way, Edmond residents can now enjoy artisanal European goods made fresh daily.Twisted

Robert and his wife also own Café Evoke in downtown Edmond, and one of their motivations for opening a bak ery was to provide fresh-baked goods to other businesses in the area.

“For us, we’re focusing on two things: artisanal European style breads is one thing, and then European inspired pas tries are the second thing,” said owner RobertRobertBlack.says that the bakery’s goods are inspired by the same goods he and his sister would make with their grand mother when they were younger.

“My sister, Kassie, who was a school

“One of the first things I did kind of as a former chef was really get excited about doing awesome pastries in the coffee shop,” said Robert. “I looked for a local wholesale partner, someone that was doing really great pastries that we could buy from for the coffee shop, and we didn’t find a great fit for us.”

The bakery staff is working on ramping up production to meet the needs of customers, and Robert is planning for a pre-order service to be up and running by mid-September.

“We’re going to have an online pre-order system that lets people sort of pick their box, pick their pastries, pick their croissants a couple of days ahead of time and pay for them. That way all you have to do is come in and pick them up,” saidRobertRobert.and his staff have been grateful for the community support they have already received, and they are looking forward to more success and growth in downtown Edmond.

Even though the wholesale focus was the original goal of the bakery, the storefront has been extremely successful. During the opening weeks Twisted Tree sold out of products within a few hours of opening.

Twisted Tree has allowed Robert and Kassie to bring a little piece of their home to the Edmond community, but Robert feels that the experience is mutual. He says working down town has been reminiscent of his childhood in Shattuck, Oklahoma.SaidRobert, “This feeling of being in downtown Edmond reminds me of growing up in downtown Shattuck because it’s got that same small-town feel. So, we want to be here not just because we like the people in the community, but also because for me it reminds me of home and growing up.”

It wasn’t just good bread, it was great bread,” said Robert. “Kind of jokingly, it started with, ‘Hey, why don’t you quit, you’re teaching job and come open a bakery with me?’ That was kind of like a running family joke, but one day she said ‘Sure.’ So then, it began in earnest.”

Julie. “Whenever somebody tries to do it themselves and you have lines all over the place or woodwork that’s painted with a paintbrush. It really can devalue the home.”

Stacy and Julie said they’re able to complete projects on such an efficient timeline because they do everything in house while giving input on design. For

“When you’re selling a home or pur chasing a home, the first thing you see is the paint job. That’s what you see when you go into a house, the walls and the paint. I know for me, and I know for most of my clients, when you walk in and you see that somebody has done a DIY project with the paint, it can be devastating the amount of damage that people can do,” said Julie.

Since 2019, Elegant Touch has expanded to offer custom carpentry services as well as kitchen and bath

those considering a remodel, Stacy says that fall is an optimal time to begin the project.“Really fall is a great time because the weather’s good, and I know that sounds silly, but your door is open like 90% of the time. So, in summer, your electric bill can go crazy, and in winter your electric bill can go crazy, but fall is a great time to kind of minimize the damage on that,” said Julie.

Julie said a professional paint job can give homes a crisp clean look that buy ers, sellers, and owners will appreciate.

“We both like interacting with the customers and just seeing a space transformed.”-StacyLopez

Spring may have been a time for cleaning, but fall and winter are great times to freshen up your home with a new paint color or a kitchen remodel. Julie Brown and Stacy Lopez of Elegant Touch Painting can help you do exactly that.Stacy and Julie started Elegant Touch Painting in 2019 offering interior and exterior painting services as well as color consultation. Julie says that a pro fessional paint job can benefit home owners as well as buyers and sellers. If you’re considering painting your home there are many benefits to hiring a pro fessional company to get the job done.

“It really makes a huge difference in resale. It really takes it to another level as far as just the professionalism and having clean lines, especially a lot of these houses in Edmond, you know, they’re nice, high-dollar homes,” said

Stacy added that this is a great time of year to start scanning for 2023 color trends.Said Stacy, “The designers and companies have started releasing their 2023 color wheels. For this fall, it’s a lot of darker, earthier tones, and then some jewel tones are being introduced. That’s kind of where we are seeing trends heading. Of course, personal choices are tailored to the customer’s tastes, but that’s what we’re seeing for thisThefall.”growth of this business has been very natural, but it may surprise some to learn that a professional painting business was not Stacy and Julie’s first idea.“We talked about flipping houses initially because we both came from a finance background and had some experience in real estate and building,” said Stacy.

room remodeling to clients in Edmond and Oklahoma City. Julie and Stacy say their ability to complete projects quickly sets them apart from other companies.“Withinthe last year-and-a-half, we’ve grown into a lot of rem odels. We have specialized in the kitchen and bath remodel projects,” said Julie. “We’ve come across so many custom ers that have been without a kitchen for six months, eight months, while getting their kitchen remodeled. We can do the whole thing in three to four weeks. That’s getting the cabinets, all new carpentry, and all new tile.”

The two settled on painting and remodeling services after realizing that building a connection with their clients and seeing projects through was a motivating factor.

Holiday Centerpiece Ideas

The main living areas of a home get the most decorating attention, with a Christmas tree or menorah taking a prominent position in the front window. Garlands, candles and other accoutrements also may dress up spaces. However, when it comes to holiday hosting, attention also should be given to the dining table — which can benefit from a festive centerpiece.
