The grand finale of LibertyFest will be the fireworks starting at 9:30pm on the evening of July 4th. The Fireworks display is the largest in the Oklahoma City metro area. Please join us in thanking our wonderful volunteers. They have been working hard to provide the "best and safest" family friendly, 4th of July events for Edmond citizens and our guests. FROM THE
President
Terry Officer
WELCOME TO LIBERTYFEST 2021 EDMOND, OKLAHOMA’S FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION. The LibertyFest theme for 2021 is “Flying the Flag of Freedom."
The LibertyFest theme for 2021 is “Flying the flag of Freedom” and everyone is invited join us and celebrate America, while enjoying the LibertyFest 2021 events. I can assure everyone that the LibertyFest volunteers were heart broken over the loss of the 2020 celebration. Sadly the Coronavirus created an unusual situation for Edmond and the world. In the last forty-nine years LibertyFest has never been cancelled and we hope it will never happen again. Our LibertyFest committees continued planning through 2020 for the 2021 return celebration that would be better than ever. We are more than ready for a healthy, fun and safe LibertyFest. It is my pleasure to extend a heart felt “Thank you” to the hundreds of volunteers that make LibertyFest a successful 4th of July celebration. I would be remiss to not express our gratitude to all of our amazing and generous sponsors that support LibertyFest “Thank you.” Another expression of gratitude goes out to all who attend our events. This is also my opportunity as kiteFest Chairman to invite you personally to “go fly a kite” and allow me to greet you outdoors, in the fresh air while "painting the sky with color.” Join me and other kiters or just join us. Finally, I am inviting you, your family and friends to celebrate LibertyFest with our volunteers and experience patriotism, freedom and family fun during LibertyFest 2021.
P.S. Go fly a kite!

FROM THE
Publisher LIBERTYFEST IS BACK!
Ray Hibbard
It was a giant disappointment to fans of LibertyFest last year for the event to be canceled. As it turns out, the committee certainly made the correct call for a year that was at the very least unusual. No one was more disappointed than the LibertyFest committee. Canceling the event was with an incredibly heavy heart but with safety of the volunteers and festival attendees in mind. We are so happy and thankful that LibertyFest is back and in Grand style. All the events are taking place including the much enjoyed fireworks on July 4th. We will get to enjoy the parade, car show, kite fest, road rally, concert in the park, ParkFest and more. The only event you won’t be able to enjoy is Taste of Edmond which serves as the fundraiser for the LibertyFest fireworks display. The LibertyFest committee just did not think it was right to ask the many restaurants that have supported us in the past to go to such an expense in a year when their industry was particularly hard hit. They need at least a year to spend on their own businesses and we hope you will support them the week of LibetyFest by eating at their restaurants. It is such a privilege for Edmond Life & Leisure to be asked to produce this official program for the LibertyFest Committee. This is our 20th year of doing so and it is just as exciting as the first year. We also take just as much care and feel just as much responsibility as we did the first time we produced this program. We thank the committee trusting us with this responsibility, Edmond Life & Leisure considers it an honor. The big heroes for LibertyFest are all the volunteers. They contribute hundreds of hours to making this weeklong celebration easy for Edmond to enjoy. The work and planning for LibertyFest events goes on year-round. Volunteers take time away from their families and other responsibilities to make sure we all have a pleasant and safe experience at these events. They are all folks who love their community and our country. It is truly a labor of love for our LibertyFest volunteers. We wish you and your family a safe and happy Fourth of July and hope you will join us in our Edmond LibertyFest Celebration. It is certainly a fitting tribute to our fine nation. It is one of the best celebrations in our great United States. Our family looks forward to seeing you along the parade route and at all the other events.

There will also be kiters flying four-line kites in patterns never dreamed of by the kiters of yesteryear. The kite Festival will include making kites for even the youngest kiter and a place to fly their new kite. Candy drops from a large kite will occur several times Saturday for the kids. Several Master Class kiters will demonstrate new kites and flying techniques. Some traction kiters will pull their buggies with kites. Everyone is welcome to bring their own kite. Small sled kites will be given to every child so each child can fly a kite. Other kites of various sizes, colors, etc. will be sold by our vendor,
“Wings of the Wind Kites and Toys.” All are invited to come and fly a kite or just watch. Homemade kites are welcome. We will ask for donations to support kiteFest and the kite giveaway. Saturday will include a siEVENT CHAIR lent auction for those interTerry Officer ested in bidding on kite or kite-related objects. Donations for the auction would be appreciated. So clean out a closet or kite bag and help out KiteFest. After sundown, the kiters will return and do a night-fly. (Saturday only – night fly – weather and wind permitting.) Lights will be placed on the two-lined kites and flown together in many patterns. Many have described this as an experience with UFOs. This is a “must-see” for those who have never witnessed a night kite fly and for those who have. Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. is dedicated to kite flying for anyone who wants to “go fly a kite” on KiteFest Lane. FROM THE
President UCO OF
Patti NeuholdRavikumar
WELCOME TO LIBERTYFEST!
Cities across our nation are celebrating another year of freedom and democracy envisioned more than two hundred years ago by our country's founding fathers and held precious still today. As the state's first higher education institution, we live and work in the glory of those early ideals and educate our citizens to understand the value of the democratic process that nurtures them. We are committed to contributing to our country's future by helping our students become engaged citizens who think critically and understand the power their voice can have in shaping our destiny. As an integral part of the Edmond community, the University of Central Oklahoma has been a proud contributor to the citizenry of this great state for 131 years and we look forward to the next century together. The parade will wind its way through our city today, launching from our campus heralding the exciting activities of the day. Through the sounds of the patriotic anthems played by the musicians in the concert on the campus lawn and the delight of the brightly colored fireworks bursting in the air above, we wish you a safe and happy Independence Day with your friends and family. May you be filled with pride of this great country and all for which she stands.

EDMOND VETERANS MEMORIAL
Recognition of Veterans
On December 10, 2019, the Edmond City Council authorized the creation of the Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee (VMAC) for the purpose of making recommendations for the development of a veterans memorial in the City of Edmond and to make recommendations regarding activities and other projects honoring veterans. The VMAC follows up on the work of the Veterans Memorial Advisory Task Force, which created the initial concept for the memorial. Matthew McClarty serves as the Chairman of VMAC. The City Council agreed on the renovation of a portion of Bickham-Rudkin Park. The park consists of 49 acres and contains a playground, fishing pond, pavilion, and dog park. The Memorial will be located at the northern end of Bickham-Rudkin Park and will potentially include a flag plaza, memorial sculpture, and other landscaping features such as walking trails and an events plaza. Central to the memorial’s concept will be plaques and tributes recognizing Edmond residents who have served our nation. As part of its ongoing work, the VMAC will develop plans, collect veterans’ stories, and solicit input from Edmond residents on appropriate displays and recognition. The Edmond Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee is creating a database of Edmond Veterans, as they plan for the creation of a comprehensive Veterans Memorial in Edmond. This information is for the sole purpose of accurately identifying Edmond Veterans who desire to be recognized. Recognition criteria is being established, and not all names submitted will be eligible for inscription at the memorial but may be recognized in other manners. The Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee is raising funds for the construction of the Edmond Veterans Memorial. If you would like to make a contribution, please complete the form which is avaliable on the City of Edmond web site and send with your donation. Contributions to the Memorial should be sent to: City of Edmond ATTN: City Clerk's Office PO Box 2970 Edmond, OK 73083

Letter
Mayor
FROM THE
Darrell A. Davis
WELCOME TO EDMOND LIBERTYFEST I want to welcome you to Edmond's Libertyfest. With great enthusiasm we will enjoy our 49th annual celebration of our nation's freedom and independence. After last year's celebration being cancelled because of the pandemic, I know we are excited for its return. We are blessed to be Americans living in this great nation and community. As many have said, the joy of being an American is the joy of freedom and opportunity. The Libertyfest events are over a week long and have something for every age group to enjoy. Great family activities that provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together. This year these events are a result of the continuous planning and coordination by hundreds of dedicated volunteers. These events include an exciting rodeo, variety of outdoor activities, culminating with our nationally recognized parade on July 3rd and the spectacular fireworks display on July 4th. I hope you will enjoy the many activities that Liberyfest offers. After the year of 2020, please cherish this time to fellowship with your family and friends and possibly new friends. Also pause to salute those who have paved the way for us to enjoy this great nation. There is no greater way to celebrate ones freedom. Happy Birthday America!
Darrell A. Davis

Fireworks Safety « Only use fireworks if they are legal in your
area. Shooting fireworks illegally will likely result in fireworks confiscation by authorities (a waste of your money), fines or even jail time.
« Follow the instructions for fireworks usage on the packaging. Use them only as intended. Do not try to combine fireworks to get a bigger bang or light display.
« Sparklers can be beautiful but also dangerous. Do not let children under the age of 12 handle sparklers.
« Fireworks should be operated solely by an adult. This adult should wear safety glasses. Spectators should keep a safe distance. « Never throw or point fireworks at someone, even in jest.
« Fireworks are for outdoor use only. Do not light them indoors and then carry them outside. « Keep water in a bucket and a hose nearby for safety reasons. « Don't hold fireworks in your hand or have any part of your body over them while lighting. « Point fireworks away from homes, and keep away from brush, leaves and flammable substances. The National Fire Protection Association estimates that local fire departments respond to more than 50,000 fires caused by fireworks each year.
