PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: AN IMPORTANT STRATEGY FOR MAINTAINING INDEPENDENCE THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2018 2:30 PM COFFEE SHOP Physical activity is more than going to exercise class or participating in sports. It is a part of our daily life. As we get older, how we choose to engage in physical activity changes. I am interested in talking with older adults about their physical activity choices. If you are 65-years old or older and are interested in helping me learn about physical activity choices in older adults, I would love to talk with you. Please join me for some refreshments, a brief presentation about physical activity in older adults and how you can help me better understand this important issue. After my presentation there will be a drawing for door prizes. If you have any questions before the presentation, please give me a call. I look forward to seeing you on August 2nd. SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY, AUGUST 5TH BRILL CHAPEL 9:30 AM GOD’S JUDGEMENT

Psalms 32

INSIDERS OUT Insider trading is the buying or selling of a public company's stock by those with access to information not generally available. This is seen as unfair to other investors, and laws have been written to discourage it. Insider-trading cases involving high profile people have been major news stories of the past two decades. However, it seems that those who made laws forbidding insider trading were exempt from those very laws! In November 2011, the TV show 60 Minutes aired an expose on insider trading by members of Congress in both parties. The program cited examples of lawmakers using non-public information about pending legislation and other congressional matters to make lucrative investments. Members of Congress had exempted themselves from the very rules they had created, which jailed bankers, CEOs, and others. After this information was disclosed, Congress took action and passed, with overwhelming support, a law to prevent this abuse. As a result, members of Congress and their staffs are no longer exempt from the insider-trading laws that apply to everyone else. It's easy to expect more of others than we expect from ourselves. In this week's lesson, Paul points out just how dangerous such an attitude can be. Come and be blessed with the music of Fretta M. at the piano. Tracy Wilson will be our teacher this week.

VESPERS THURSDAY, August 2ND 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL Vespers speaker will be Kristen Harlin, Executive Director of Criminal Justice and Mercy Ministries, Oklahoma United Methodist Conference.

VESPERS THURSDAY, AUGUST 9TH 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL Vespers speaker will be Rev. Elizabeth Horton-Ware, Director of Religious Life, Oklahoma City University. 7

Epworth Market Alert! Residents, we have a problem. The Market needs more substitute volunteers. Presently, we have a group of faithful ladies who volunteer four hours of their time (two hours twice a month) and have been doing it for years. However, there are times when we need a sub, such as, when there are extra days in a month or a regular volunteer is ill, has an appointment or is out of town. In order to continue to keep our Market open five days a week, we need to enlarge our sub pool. If you feel you can volunteer an occasional couple of hours a month (1-3PM), please contact Maggie at 405-751-9382. Thank you. 8

CLASSICAL GUITARIST COLLIN HOLLOWAY & PIANIST ROBERT (LUKE) BENEDICT FRIDAY, AUGUST 10TH 7:00 PM BRILL CHAPEL

Luke Benedict, 20, born in Winchester, Virginia, began his piano studies at age 5. He has played the piano for twelve years and has spent the last two years studying with Rebecca Penneys at Eastman School of Music. At Eastman, Luke has had the opportunity to perform in a variety of settings, ranging from orchestral works and chamber music to solo works. In addition, he has enjoyed performing in several master classes with Svetozar Ivanov at University of South Florida. Over the past few years, Luke has attended both the Brevard Music Festival and Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival during the summer. He has attended the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival for the past three years and hopes to broaden his outlook by working with different professors of piano. In the next few years, Luke will be pursuing a bachelor degree in piano performance at Eastman School of Music, and hopes to improve his mastery of piano technique and interpretation under Professor Penneys. Classical guitarist Collin Holloway began playing at the age of nine in his home town of Oklahoma City. His passion for the instrument and natural talent were cultivated by Matthew Denman who acted as a teacher and mentor to Collin during his adolescence. After completion of his secondary schooling, Collin went on to further develop his talent at the Eastman School of Music where he currently studies under Nicholas Goluses and Thomas Viloteau. Collin's performing experience is extensive for such a young guitarist. He has performed across much of America and Spain both as a soloist and as a part of various ensembles. Highlights of his promising career include winning the Oklahoma Haire Solo Guitar Competition, two first place finishes at the National Brownsville Guitar Duet Competition, and various first place ensemble awards at the national level. 11
