WOMEN’S COFFEE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12th COFFEE 10:00 AM, PROGRAM 10:30 AM REDBUD “Here we come a-caroling!” What better way to celebrate the Advent Season than speaker Jimette McLean’s sharing of Christmas stories—past, present, and future! What is your favorite Carol? Do you think we all could sing through the WHOLE “Twelves Days of Christmas”? The word ‘Carol’ actually means dance or a song of praise and joy. Our familiar carols come from many countries, cultures, and sung in many languages. The origins of Christmas songs dates back to around the 4th century AD when some of the Latin Christian hymns were written out and evolved into songs we recognize and sing today. Come and bring neighbors, friends, and guests early for coffee and treats!

SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16TH BRILL CHAPEL 9:30 AM PRAYING IT UP
Psalms 103
Sometimes when a person is the recipient of a kind deed, the individual will talk about “paying it forward.” The idea is that anyone who has been helped should “forward” that kindness to someone else. This way of thinking is meant to counter a self– centered “me-first” frame of mind. The principle comes from certain biblical passages. When sending his disciples to preach and do miracles in his name, Jesus said, “Freely you have received; freely give”. (Matthew 10:8; compare Romans 15:25-27) Scripture also encourages the practice of “praying it upward”, of acknowledging that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17). Offering praise to the Lord does not mean ignoring the needs of others around us; if anything, it encourages us to bless others as we have been blessed and to thus “pay forward” the goodness we have received from God. The Bible includes dozens of commands to praise the Lord. The book of Psalms witnesses imperatives and a variety of expressions of praise to God. One such is the source of this lesson. Come early to hear our own Fretta Moore bless us with her piano mastery of the hymns at 9:15am. Burrel McNaught will lead this lesson.

MESSIAH BY G.F. HANDEL SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16TH 7:00 PM FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, OKC LEAVE EPWORTH VILLA @ 5:30 PM (DOORS OPEN AT 6:00 PM) Christmas isn't complete without Handel's masterpiece! A perennial favorite ever since its premiere in 1742, the work is a setting of Biblical texts from the old and new testaments. Though a monument of baroque style, Handel's music is nevertheless timeless in its appeal and emotional power, captivating audience members for generations.
WE ARE CURRENTLY FULL FOR THIS TRIP!! IF YOU SIGNED UP AND CANNOT GO, PLEASE SEE SUSAN. THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE ON THE WAITING LIST AT THIS TIME. DID YOU KNOW…… The citizens of Dublin prevailed upon Handel to compose a piece of music to be performed as a fundraiser for the poor of Dublin. Handel responded by writing the Messiah, which he also conducted at the first performance of this timeless piece of Christmas music.
INQUIRING MINDS MONDAY, DECEMBER 17TH WELLNESS CLASSROOM 7:14 PM The MAYO CLINIC: FAITH, HOPE, SCIENCE Directed by Ken Burns A hospital of second opinions and last resort, it was always an unusual, inspirational place, cutting edge, not the least of whose innovations was to put the health of the patient ahead of that of the institution. Patients were treated according to what they could afford to pay; the hospital eventually became officially nonprofit, and doctors were (and still are) paid a salary, eliminating the temptation to order four procedures where one will do. Teamwork is prized: "Our failures as a profession are the failures of individualism, the result of competitive medicine," said Will Mayo. "It must be done by collective effort." 7
