SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2ND BRILL CHAPEL 9:30 AM Deuteronomy 6:1-9

SUNDAY SCHOOL EVERY DAY

A 7-year-old boy who had never been to church was invited by a friend to come along with him one Sunday morning. The boy found himself quite taken by the Bible lesson, the activities, and other features of the class. So excited was he that when the class was over, he told the friend who invited him, “This was great! I wish there could be Sunday School every day!” That boy's wish is very similar to what Moses proposed to the Israelite parents in this week's lesson text from Deuteronomy 6. The principle at issue there is still valid and vital for Christians today. Tracy Wilson will teach this lesson and Fretta Moore will bless us with her creative interpretation of our favorite hymns.

VESPERS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL Vespers speaker will be Rev. Linda Brinkworth, United Methodist Church, Retired. Music by the Villa Voices: “Sing for the Coming of the King”

VESPERS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6TH 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL Vespers speaker will be Rev. Donald Vaught, Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church, Edmond Music by the Villa Voices: “Creator of the Stars of Night”

INQUIRING MINDS MONDAY, DECEMBER 3RD WELLNESS CLASSROOM 7:14 PM THE STORY OF IRELAND Mona Mae Waymire, Moderator The series aims to explore Irish history using the historical facts and evidence while charting the origin and impact of the numerous myths that have been passed off as history in the past. Key to this approach is relating developments in Ireland to events and changes in Europe and the world at large as the centuries progress. Episode Five: The Age of Nations The Boer War is of much forgotten significance to the Irish story in the early 20th Century. A strong theme in the program is the exploration of Irish nationalism, the welding together of culture, physical force and blood sacrifice, from Patrick Pearse, Connolly and Larkin right through to the beginning of the period known as 'The Troubles' in Northern Ireland.

Come enjoy the music as all we musicians do (“our favorite time of the year!”) and enjoy the hospitality of Cherokee Hills Baptist Church. Come early to get a seat! We always have “standing room only.” “Yes! we need a little Christmas right this very minute….!” *If you are interested in attending this concert, please sign up in the ‘Count Me In’ book no later than Thursday, December 6th. What is your favorite Carol? Do you think we all could sing through the WHOLE “Twelves Days of Christmas”? The word ‘Carol’ actually means dance or a song of praise and joy. Our familiar carols come from many countries, cultures, and sung in many languages. The origins of Christmas songs dates back to around the 4th century AD when some of the Latin Christian hymns were written out and evolved into songs we recognize and sing today.
