One of the games children often used to play was “dress-up"; today it has lost much of its appeal, a casualty of our digital, high-tech age. A little boy would try to wear what Dad wore, especially if some kind of special clothing or uniform was involved. A little girl would dress up like her mother, possibly using some of Mom's makeup without her permission. The parents laughed at how “grown-up” the child looked.

Jacob was a grown man, not a child when he (with his mother Rebekah's help) dressed up like Esau. But this was no game for Jacob and Rebekah. The stakes were enormously high; the patriarchal blessing, associated with future prosperity and security on the line.

The outcome of Jacob and Rebekah's deception of old, blind Issac was not laughter, the meaning of Issac's name. Rather it was anger, sorrow, and the eventual self-exile of Jacob.

Come early to hear our own Fretta Moore bless us with her piano mastery of the hymns at 9:15am. Nancy Zumwalt will lead this lesson.

The symbolism of the 13 folds of the U.S. Flag

If you’ve attended a funeral honoring a veteran who served our country, perhaps you witnessed the folding of the flag that once covered the casket of a loved one. Each of the 13 folds of the flag holds great significance.

At the ceremony of retreat, a daily observance at bases during which all personnel pay respect to the flag, “the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation’s honored dead. The next morning, it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body.”

1. The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

2. The second fold signifies our belief in eternal life.

3. The third fold is made in honor and tribute of the veteran departing our ranks, and

who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to attain peace.

4. The fourth fold exemplifies our weaker nature as citizens trusting in God; it is to

Him we turn for His divine guidance.

5. The fifth fold is an acknowledgment to our country, for in the words of Stephen

Decatur, “Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong.”

6. The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge

allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

7. The seventh fold is a tribute to our armed forces, for it is through the armed forces that we protect our country and our flag against all enemies.

8. The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor our mother, for whom it flies on Mother’s Day. 9. The ninth fold is an honor to womanhood, for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty, and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded.

10. The 10th fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since he or she was first-born.

11. The 11th fold, in the eyes of Hebrew citizens, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

12. The 12th fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.

13.The last fold, when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, “In God We Trust.�

INQUIRING MINDS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH WELLNESS CLASSROOM 7:14 PM THE STORY OF IRELAND Mona Mae Waymire, Moderator The series aims to explore Irish history using the historical facts and evidence while charting the origin and impact of the numerous myths that have been passed off as history in the past. Key to this approach is relating developments in Ireland to events and changes in Europe and the world at large as the centuries progress.

Episode Two: The Age of Conquest As the English set foot in Ireland, there begins 800 years of British rule. This episode examines the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland and the huge upheavals and changes taking place across Europe at the time.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PROTECTING YOURSELF AGAINST SCAM CALLS!!

What happens when a call comes in and you do not know if it is a scam or not. Here are a few ways for you to tell. 

If a person calls you and says you have been specifically

chosen for what is being offered. 

If they say you won big money in a foreign lottery, asking you for your trust in them.



Extra charges begin appearing on your credit card at the time of the offer and afterwards, or having great deals that do not seem realistic.

When any of these things happen, ask the following questions:



First ask, who is calling?



Another question to ask is, if it is free why are they asking me to pay?



When asking me to pay why is the caller in such a big hurry to do it right then?

Some tips after thinking those questions:



Search online for the company that they are a part of to see if it is a real company.



Talk to someone and see if they think it is a scam also.



If you think they are trying to scam you they may likely be so spotting them is key.



Be skeptical if there is a free trial.



Do not pay them right then and there.

OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY MARIMBA MUSICIANS TO PERFORM MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH 2:00 PM BRILL CHAPEL Composer and percussionist Chris Prather graduated with his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Central Oklahoma where he studied composition with Dr. Samuel Magrill. Chris has recently had his one-act opera “Nicer When You Smile”, inspired by the me too movement, premiered by the Oklahoma chapter of Opera on Tap. Chris is currently attending Oklahoma City University to pursue a Master’s degree in Music Composition.

Cameron Duncan is a junior percussion performance and composition student from Piedmont, Oklahoma. He is also active as a teacher, performer, and arranger.

Jackie Partida is a second year graduate student from Houston, Texas studying percussion performance and music composition.

Emma Roper is a junior percussion performance major, and studying to get an undergraduate certificate in non-profit arts leadership. She currently holds the position of Gigs Performance Manager of the Wanda L. Bass school of Music.

Blake Moore is from Oklahoma City, OK, and currently working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Psychology.

Stephanie Krichena is from Washington, Oklahoma and currently a junior percussion performance and instrumental music education double major.

WOMEN’S COFFEE WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th REDBUD ROOM COFFEE, 10:00 A.M., PROGRAM 10:30 A.M. MEN ARE INVITED TO ATTEND! “Hunger in the Schools” seems to be a surprising topic for our metro area. However, it is a real fact! Speaker Lisa Chastain has run the food pantry in Summit Middle School (just down the street from Epworth Villa) for 7 years. Believe it or not, Edmond does have a poverty problem and there are children going home from school hungry. Lisa explains, “We pack a bag each week for these kids to have food to get them through the weekend, so that they will be able to focus on academics on Monday instead of their hunger pangs. Last year, I started a food pantry at Santa Fe High School as about 100 of our kids who graduate out of middle school were being sent off to high school just as hungry but with no food help.” Lisa’s mission is to make sure these kids know the world does believe in them and that they won’t be hungry on her watch!

From now until the morning of our coffee on November 14th, we will be collecting items for Lisa and her food pantries. Please see the next page for the items that they can use for the backpacks. If you would like to contribute, there will be a box located is the area across from the Redbud for you to put items in.

Items collected will also help out over the Thanksgiving holiday break when kids are home for several days.

COMEDIAN JEFF LOVE FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH 2:30 PM GRAND BALLROOM Jeff Love casually attended LSU, Furman and North Texas for sports management and music and became a night club owner. Jeff sold out and began his comedy career at thirty seven years old as a beginner at open mic nights in comedy clubs throughout Dallas and Atlanta. Jeff said it was the worst five minutes of his life, three times a week. He survived open mic night and began working as an opening act; that's the person who sleeps on the couch, in the living room, at the comedy condo and gets paid the least.

Jeff was an opening act for five years. Jeff became a feature and eventually a headliner.

Before Jeff Love was a comedian, he worked as an Activities Director for an active senior community. When Love left his warm, fuzzy job, for his first comedy tour, the residents made him promise to do senior shows also. Now that Love is a senior citizen himself, he performs 200 senior dates a year.

Since 1990, Jeff has performed a G-rated comedy show called “Laughter IS The Best Medicine�, written especially for an active retirement community.

There will be a donation box across from the entrance to the Redbud from Wednesday, November 21st through Sunday, November 25th for you to place your items. So as you are doing a bit of shopping, don’t forget about the children from birth to four years that ICS services. Everything is needed from bottles to bibs, clothing, cuddly toys, teething rings, sippy cups, and socks. Infant Crisis will also take monetary donations; place your check made out to Infant Crisis Services, in a sealed envelope and put it in the in-house box for 10B. If you have any questions, you may call Mickie D. at 753-9846.

DO YOU HAVE HEARING ISSUES? If you find it hard to hear other people’s conversations and they don’t know that you have problems, we have a solution that might help you and them.

We recently acquired stickers of an ear as shown to the left that an easily be added to your name tag. If you would like others to know that you have hearing issues and that they need to speak louder to you, go by Elizabeth Newell’s office to get one for your tag.

‘Tis the season to go shopping! It seems we are getting a lot of packages for the holidays early this year and they can pile up quickly. If you receive a package, it would be most appreciated if you retrieve it as soon as you can.’
