SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH BRILL CHAPEL 9:30 AM Genesis 1:26-31
IDENTITY CRISIS
In the mid-twentieth century, Psychologist Erik Erikson coined the term “identity crisis” to describe a developmental issue that occurs during adolescence. That phrase has since been used to describe the common plight of people wrestling with the questions “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” The early theologian Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-430) addressed this issue as he prayed “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you” (Confessions 1.1). Augustine's word reflect the biblical texts we are exploring this week. Genesis 1:26-31 and 2:4-7 teach us that God created people in his image as the apex of his creation. As his image bearers, we are precious in God's sight, having received an extraordinary status and role within creation. Burrel McNaught will lead this interesting lesson. Come early to hear our own Fretta Moore bless us with her piano mastery of the hymns at 9:15am.

PET POLICY REMINDER In the resident handbook the Pet Policy addresses the responsibilities of being a pet owner. The most frequently reviewed topics are waste removal, noise and pets inside the building. The policy addresses these topics in the following manner: 1) pet waste must be immediately picked up and disposed of in a sanitary manner; 2) pet owners are responsible for insuring that the rights of other residents to peace and quiet, health, and/or safety are not infringed upon or diminished by pet noise, odors, wastes or other nuisances and 3) pets should not be allowed to “roam” but should be on their way outside or on their way back to the owner’s apartment at the nearest exit to the apartment. Pets must be on a leash at all times both inside and outside. A complete listing of pet owner responsibilities is in the resident handbook. Dr. Laura Garrett, Director of Resident Life

THANK YOU Thank you for all of the flowers, cards and phone calls I received recently wishing me a Happy Birthday. You certainly know how to make a person feel special. With Love and Appreciation, Mozelle A.
THANK YOU FROM THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE Heartfelt gratitude is expressed to the residents of Epworth Villa on behalf of the scholarship team for the wonderful response to our scholarship fundraising events we held in August. The pancake breakfast, pizza party, summer sundae party, silent auction, resident book signing, along with the many generous donations we received generated over $3,500.00. It is clearly evident from the turn out at the events that our residents believe in our employees and their education. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped in anyway to make August a success for the Scholarship Fund. From the dining staff for the pancake breakfast and pizza party, to Papa Murphy’s for donating pizza, to those residents who donated items for the silent auction and grab bags, to Burrell M. for donating the proceeds from the sale of his book. And, last but not least, to everyone who came to the events. It would not have happened without everyone’s involvement. Another BIG THANK YOU to the scholarship committee who were so vigilant in their presence at the events. It was a privilege to work with each and everyone of you. Marilyn W. Scholarship Committee Chairperson
