Have you ever wondered... What does OCCA do for me? That is a very important question. here is what you get for being a member...

Provider Representation - Consistent representation on many industry specific organizations and committee’s such as the DHS Licensing Child Care Advisory Board and the Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness (Smart Start Oklahoma) to name a few. Lobby Efforts - Our lobbyist is at the State Capital each week and other networking opportunities around the State. OCCA Board Members assist our lobbyist with his oversight. Technical Support - One of the biggest benefits for being a member is the option for technical support. Anytime a member needs assistance with a regulatory issue or perhaps questions about accreditation or simply needs information about supplies or equipment, members can call and have their questions answered. Opportunity - An opportunity to have your voice heard. Being a member of OCCA means having the opportunity to have your specific issues addressed and taken to the necessary individuals to get real answers.

Our accomplishments include... In 2017, we passed an agreement with DHS that allowed more individuals to qualify for Director’s Credential. HB 968 allows programs to be sold with their Stars rating intact. Through our committee work, we also requested and helped pass new rules that give staff 90 days to obtain ELG training. This year, we passed HB 2691, the bill allows all existing centers to replace a Master teacher with a designated Master teacher who has one year to obtain their credentials to qualify as a master teacher. During that time the designee counts as a Master teacher for DHS Licensing inspections. DHS may grant an additional year if efforts are being made for certifications. We passed HB 2692, the bill adds another member to the present three-person member of the DHS STAR Review panel. This member must be an owner/operator of a child care center. Through our efforts we were able to persuade DHS to let the director count as a Master teacher if qualified. We have an Interim Study scheduled this fall to look at how DHS will spend th $32 million received from the Federal Childcare Development Block Grant since childcare providers did not have direct input. The study will also review CECPD and Resource and Referral funding to ensure monies are being used productively.
