LUMBER PURCHASING & TERMINOLOGY My first trip to a lumber dealer was to say the least very nerve racking because all the wood had all these strange terms such S4S, BOARD FEET and kiln dried to name but a few, so I thought

that if I was to put together a useful cheat sheet about what all these terms meant I would be less intimidated by the hardwood dealers in the United States. Below I have made a couple of charts that describe what these terms mean.

I did some research on the internet and I came across this awesome information that I found extremely informative, most of it will be hard to remember but the tables are very useful.
