S.T.A.R - Accent Reduction S.T.A.R- STAGE TECHNIQUE ACCENT REDUCTION PROGRAM The S.T.A.R. Program is a truly unique training program designed to improve ESL students’ mastery of the English language. Students will gain a detailed understanding of English intonation and rhythm, in addition to the more traditional phonics-based pronunciation taught by most speech classes. The S.T.A.R. system also includes a from-the-ground-up muscle training approach, with one-on-one coaching from an experienced teacher. Finally, S.T.A.R. emphasizes taking control of spoken English outside of the classroom. We use a dramatic approach to understanding complex, natural language, and learn to perform it with real expression.

What is the STAR technique? STAR is all about “accent reduction”: reducing your foreign accent when you speak English, so that you can communicate more clearly. But it’s not as simple as you might think!

We will focus on five different, interrelated areas. Intonation

The pattern of your voice as it rises and falls in pitch.

Rhythm

The way we stress, stretch, or speed up on certain parts of a word or sentence.

Pronunciation The specific tongue and mouth movements needed to make all the differ ent vowel and consonant sounds used in English. Muscle Training

Some English sounds are difficult or impossible to create until you teach your speech muscles to relax and move in a particular way. This might be very different from your first language!

Expression Putting everything together to clearly and

confidently express the feeling, as well as the meaning of your words.

Testimonials TESTIMONIALS I really felt that the teachers of RCIIS are extremely high experienced. Not only teachers, but also the programs are specialized. When I was in an ESL school, I sometime felt that the classes aren’t really designed and are bored. Once I started to study at RCIIS, I’ve never felt that way. I could feel that I learn many things efficiently and effectively. After finished the business program, I also took the STAR Program. The reason why I took this program is that I really wanted to reduce my strong Japanese accents when I speak English. The teacher of STAR program taught us how to speak English more clearly.

Sho Aino from Japan

BC&STAR programs

I recommend this school to someone who would like to study seriously and practically. You can build up your confidence and communication skills through RCIIS’ programs.

When I was in this S.T.A.R Program, I had been in Toronto about 6 months. At that time, I was disappointed at my impassable English pronunciation. What I really wanted was smooth conversation with native English speakers. so this hope put me into the S.T.A.R program.

Satokazu Tanaka from Japan STAR programs

During the class, students are encouraged to make an intonation in order to change our sounds clear for native English speakers.

“Time is money” even if you are thinking to take a course to improve your English.

I am really sure that the S.T.A.R program has great features for us.

Therefore I chose Royal Canadian Institute of International Studies because their programs are interesting, useful and profitable. Those programs help me to improve my skills and knowledge in order to understand the English language in a current market business environment, also in a Canadian experience atmosphere.

The Business and Internship program is a very complete program. During the course you will have do individual and group presentation that will help you to improve your English skills and also your confidence talking in front a big group. In addition it has outstanding teachers which have tons of update knowledge and experience of the business area. Moreover to reinforce the knowledge acquired from the course I highly recommend getting the internship, it is the best way to obtain Canadian experience that it is useful no matter where are you from because it will be part of your resume and also for your personal experience.

RCIIS is very friendly and family oriented. I’ve learned a lot of things about business commutation also about real life. I am sure this experience will help me in real business situations. “It’s about real life and business!”

Hee-Ung Lee ( BC+ EBC)

internship at TV distribution company)

Choosing RCIIS was one of the best decisions I made in Canada. I had two things I wanted to do. One was to get in the English working environment. The other one was to solve the problem that when I talked to my friends or teachers they understood me but when I talked to “people” they didn’t understand me!! I’d had many trial lessons to find the right one. I didn’t want to waste my limited time and money. Then I found RCIIS. The STAR Programme really helped me to speak more clearly with right intonations. The Business communication Programme helped me to be ready to get in the working environment with strong confidence. Now I have my internship going on. Because I wanted to start to establish my career in the hotel industry, I chose a hotel to work for. My boss gives me a part of his job, which is very practical tasks, not just making copies. I wouldn’t have had this priceless experience if I didn’t get this internship. Thank you RCIIS! I am pretty sure this will help me to get a better job in Japan or in any countries!!
