Thechamber wallsaremadeofstone Twolargewindows,tenfeetbysixfeet,allowedthered,dull lighttoilluminateits interior.Isitatanobsidian-craftedsub-table.This is where Iconductall business inthe Realm.Tapestries fromthe Human Realmcoverpartsofthewalls.TheydepictscenesofoldGreekandRomanmythology.Thechambercanfitupto30Beings, notincludingmyfiveShadowWarriors,whoprotectmenightandday.

ThenLilithspoke,“Succubus,wehaveaproblem IhavemetwiththeBeingsofLight,andtheyareunhappywithhow the HumanRealmprogresses.The balance is dangerouslyclose tostrayingtoofar intoShadow.Sinis runningrampant,andthe Light Beings are workingovertime to quell what seems to be anout-of-control situation.” Lilithpaused to ensure all were listening.Theroombecamequietagain,andshecontinued.

“Succubus,since youretiredall vampires andwerewolves,our Realmhas expandedfour times more thanplanned We’ve takenmoredamnedsoulsintotheShadow Realmthanatanypointinhistory.Wearehavingahardtimekeepingupwiththe overflow.TheBeingsofLightaredemandingwerestorethebalance.”

The Beings left her chamber, and the Succubus, aka Kelsey Green, summoned the oldest vampire to her chamber, Jure GrandoAlilović.Hewasthefirstofhiskind.

IusedthenameKelseyTannerforfiftyyearsbeforechangingittoKelseyGreen Idon’tage,anditwouldraiseeyebrowsifI continuedtoshowupasKelseyTannerwhenthosewhoknowmeintheHumanRealmareaging,andIamnot.KelseyTanner diedonvacationinaskiingaccident.Ichangedmylookabit,andlikemagic,I’mgoodforanotherthirtytofiftyyears.

But, they would have a weakness Harm could come in the way of a priest with a crucifix and holy water The priest wouldn’tbe able to kill the vampire, buthe could turnitawayand give itsevere burns fromthe touchofthe cross or holy water.

ALightBeingcouldbanishthevampiretotheShadowRealm,orahumancouldkillitthroughdecapitationandsenditback to Shadow. Yet all other weaknesses, such as garlic, sunlight, etc., wouldn’t afflict this new vampire. With just the three limitations,thismadethevampiremorepowerfulthaneverbefore

Therewouldbenoblood,nodeath,andnoharm.Theywouldgainasinner’strustbygrantingthemonewish.Ifthatperson accepted the wish, the vampire would transfer their soul to the Shadow Realmafter their natural death. The vampire would receiveenergyandstrengthnotfromblood,butfromfeedingona person’s spirit.Itwas genius andwortha trytosee ifmy theorywouldwork

Thelaststepwastogetthesupernaturalnewstrendingaroundtheworld.Onceitpropagatesthroughthenetworksandsocial media,fearwillsetin,andslowly,thebalancewillshiftbacktowardthemiddlebetweenLightandShadow.

Fromits thighs, another setoflegs grew outofit. Its bottomlooked more spiderthanhuman.

“Isthiswhatyourmistresswants?”

Jureandthecreaturethatusedtoresembleahumansoonstoodbeforeme.

Dantilookedonandtriedhisbesttogruntoutafewsentences.“I-Iwilldoany-y-thingtoendwhatIam.” Ismiled.“Excellent,Danti,thenit’ssettled.Jurewillexplainyourjobandprepareyouforthetransformation.“

Dantididn’tcare Anythingisbetterthanendlesssufferingandpain

CHAPTER TWO

The Human Realm

I woke to the morning bell. No one can sleep through something like that. Three weeks have passed since Danti's transformation.MyassistantsspentthelastfewweekstrainingandpreparingDantiforhisnewrole,servingmysub-table. Myperformancewithintheceremonialchamberwasdifficultandnotwithoutitseffects Iwasweakthreetofourdaysafter andhadpaininareaswherenopainshouldexist.

IerasedDanti’smemoriesandcravingsfromhispast.Theywouldonlyhinderhiminhisnewrole.Hecouldonlyremember thingsthathadnothingtodowithmurdersorserialkillings.Iingrainedintohismindmemoriesthatwerenothisownbutmore alignedwithwhoImadehimtobe

Whenhelookedbackuponhislife,hecouldremembertheShadow Realmandthepainitinflicteduponhim,buthewould never remember whyhe came to the Realm.
