“Let’s run in the Swiss Fun Run,” said slim Stan. “Yes,” said Scott. “The Swiss Fun Run is swell. But it is not just a run. You have to swim and skip, too.” 3
“ I cannot swim,” said Stan. “Let’s just run and not swim and skip. Now, let’s go run up and down the steps. We can get skills on the steps.” 4
Scott said, “Let’s run up and down fast. Let’s not stop. Let’s run, step by step, faster and faster.” 5
The step was wet, and Stan slipped on the step. He skinned his leg. It got stiff, but Stan did not stop. He got up and ran up the steps. 6
They ran and ran and ran. Then Scott had to stop to rest. 7
“You cannot stop. You cannot rest,” said Stan to Scott. “We have to run to be the best.” 8
But just then Stan sniffed. “What is that smell?” he asked. “I smell ham,” said Scott. “Let’s stop and have some ham.”
9
“We must not stop,” said Stan. “We must run to be the best.” 10
They did not stop. They ran up and down the steps.
