Watermelon

Florida is the #1 watermelon producing state in the U.S.

Florida accounts for 30% of all watermelon grown in the U.S.

Florida produces around 1 BILLION pounds of watermelon each year. Watermelon is grown mainly on the west side of Florida.

Watermelons are 92% water. Watermelons are countries

The world's heaviest watermelon was 350 lbs.

Watermelons take 90 days to grow from seed to fruit.

Seedless watermelon are most popular.

Perry Farms

Perry Farms is a family owned & farm that was started in 1996.

Perry Farms is currently run by , a 4th generation farmer.

Perry Farms is home to over 600 acres of watermelon & 12,000 acres of sugarcane.

Perry Farms harvests their watermelon approximately 3 months after planting.

Carl’s son & daughter both went to college to study agriculture and now work on the farm.

“A Family Tradition”

Perry Farms also raise dairy cows.

Perry Farms is located in Moore Haven, FL.

Sweet Corn

Florida is the largest producer of fresh market sweet corn in the U.S.

The U.S. is the LARGEST producer, consumer & exporter of corn in the world.

Humans only eat sweet corn

Florida is home to 37,000+ acres of sweet corn. Palm Beach County produces over 50% of Florida’s sweet corn.

U.S. Sugar farms on 215,000+ acres of land across Florida.

U.S. Sugar is located in Clewiston, Florida.

Many of the U.S. Sugar’s oranges are used to make orange juice.

Black-Eyed Peas

Black-eyed peas thrive in Florida’s summer heat.

Popular Types of Beans: green beans, kidney beans, pinto beans & lima beans.

Fresh blackeyed peas take approx. 65 days to maturity where dried peas take 90-100 days.

Despite their name, black-eyed peas are actually type of bean.

Black-eyed peas are heat & drought tolerant.

Black-eyed peas are a type of “southern pea.”

There are over 40,000 types of beans.

Browning Produce

Browning Produce was started in 2022 by husband & wife Bryan & Jessica Browning.

All of their packaging is recyclable.

Browning Produce is a mighty family-owned

Browning Produce currently operates on approx. 10 acres.

Browning Produce is located in Moore Haven, Florida.

Browning Produce started out farming on their personal property but have now expanded on land of local farmers & neighbors.

Browning Produce grows mainly green beans . Currently harvests all beans & by hand

Most of the dairy cows in Florida are Holsteins (the black and white cows), and their spots are unique like a fingerprint!

DAIRY FACTS

Cows chew their cud 50 times per minute.

Florida dairy farmers byproducts such as citrus pulp, brewers’ grain and whole cottonseed that are consumed by the cows instead of ending up in landfills.

A Florida dairy cow produces about 68 gallons of milk each day.

M&B Dairy

M&B Dairy is a 4th-generation family dairy farm that is home to over 700 dairy cows the dairy industry through all aspects of their production.

M&B Dairy is currently run by Dale McClellan.

Located in Lecanto, FL.

M&B Dairy prioritizes COMFORT for their cows with open-air barns and rubber mats in stalls.

“Buffy the Cow” is M&B Dairy’s mascot.

M&B Dairy provides milk to over 32 school districts in Florida.

M&B Dairy was started in the 1950s.

IN A CUP

Let’s shake some BUTTER!

2 cups cold heavy whipping cream 1 ounce plastic cups with lids

Pour 2 tablespoons of heavy cream into each portion cup. Place the lid on each cup, and distribute to students.

Shake the container until butter forms a soft lump. Continue to shake until buttermilk separates out of the lump and the container contains a solid lump of butter and liquid buttermilk. The process should take 3 to 5 minutes.

To strain, pour off or drink the buttermilk, leaving only the solid butter.

OPTIONAL: Remove the lump of butter, and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate until you are ready to serve.
