Boiling the roots and inner bark produces a yellow dye commonly used on wool.
Berberisaquifolium – one of the 6 Oregon Grape species was designated the state flower in 1899.

In late spring, the yellow flowers produce of dark blue/black the reason for its common name of Oregon Grape.
