TEACHER LICENSURE

PROGRAMS Our redesigned Teacher Licensure Programs will equip you with the 21st-century knowledge, skills, and sensibilities needed to teach and lead in today’s classrooms. With our focus on diversity and technology, you will be prepared to professionally engage with complex learning environments.

Our programs feature: • One-on-one attention and mentorship from leading faculty researchers • Extensive school placement and assessment with schools and community partners •E xploration of the most critical topics affecting today’s classrooms •B oth collaborative and independent research opportunities • Study abroad opportunities with a supporting $500.00 scholarship • Cross-disciplinary curriculum work through the Intrinsic Motivation project with IFoundry • Up-to-date courses aligned with Common Core and ISBE standards • Cutting-edge coursework toward ESL and Reading endorsements

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN LEARNING AND EDUCATION STUDIES

Bachelor of Science in Learning and Education Studies Our non-licensure degree prepares you for a broad range of positions requiring expertise in managing change and improving the performance of learning in organizations. In order to respond to the growing demand for knowledge workers prepared to lead in today’s economy, we’ve designed four areas of concentration within the major.

Program Concentrations: Educational Equality & Cultural Understanding

Applied Learning Science

This concentration investigates how education as an institution operates and recognizes the role of the field in enabling equality and cultural understanding in domestic and international settings.

This concentration probes the foundations and ideologies of learning and the application of problem-solving skills in educational, business, and organizational contexts. The program concludes with a capstone course and research project with faculty mentorship.

• E xplore educational policy, analysis, and theory •R esearch ways to create more educational equality •U nderstand the historical place of education in challenging inequality and promoting enhanced outcomes for all

• E xamine human rights-based demands for education

• Explore theories and methods in the learning sciences • I dentify principles of learning and how to apply them • Acquire flexible learning and problem-solving skills

Workplace Training & Development

Digital Environments for Learning, Teaching, & Agency

This concentration focuses on creating, delivering, and evaluating training and development programs in workplace settings, businesses, post-secondary schools, or community and government agencies. An internship is part of the program.

This concentration focuses on the design and implementation of digital technologies that promote learning in a range of environments including classrooms, mobile devices and immersive virtual worlds, in schools, homes, museums and workplaces.
