Janet Shell is a qualified teacher who retrained after 5 years to become a professional singer. During the last 15 years, Janet has brought together her knowledge of being in the classroom, with her understanding around the voice and performance, and delivers practical, thought provoking and humorous sessions to help teachers understand how to take their communication skills to the next level. She is author of the book Talking Teachers: A classroom survival guide Session Outline: During the session active participation will be required and there will be group activities alongside some power point input • • • • • • • •
Find out the messages you unconsciously give out with your voice use Introduction of the 6 universal voice qualities An opportunity to play vocally and discover your wider vocal palate Learning what impacts efficient voice production Discover the vocal exercises which come from speech therapy to aid vocal recovery and support development of voice How to project safely and moderate tone to be inclusive and inviting Discover how your communication skills are multi -faceted An opportunity to see vocal cords in action and ask any burning questions!

To create increased and specific awareness of professional level voice function and current voice use To increase confidence in use of voice and body language within the classroom environment to create improved outcomes for student participation To develop understanding of the value of warming up the voice and the use of specific exercises going forward
