e-Qualitas' Teaching Apprenticeship Programme (TAP) is a nationally recognised, work-based route into teaching.
TAP is an alternative to a traditional full-time university course, offering a postgraduate-level qualification, no tuition fees, and the opportunity for trainees to earn while they learn.
In addition to working towards QTS, upon successful completion of the course, apprentices will also complete an end-point assessment (EPA) after the summer to consolidate learning from initial teacher training.
Trainees are employed by a school while they learn in the job. In some cases, this may be a school they’re already working for, or have an existing relationship with. If a trainee is already working as an unqualified teacher or teaching assistant, QTS offers new opportunities for career progression, plus higher earning capacity, recognition, and status. Trainees receive a combination of classroom teaching and off-the-job training as they work towards QTS.
The Teaching Apprenticeship Programme's design has been led by a group of experienced schools and teachers, specifically for apprentices.
Teaching apprentices split their time between school and study - receiving practical, school-led training alongside experienced staff, and spending at least 20% of their time off-timetable to learn the pedagogy of teaching.
Subjects Available: English, Maths, Sciences and Primary Education Programme Length: Full time (53 weeks)
Qualification: QTS + Level 6 PGTA
Salary: from £19,340 - £24,254
For DfE funded places, a school receives a grant to contribute to the salary costs. The school must have DfE permission to recruit for funded salaried places.
A trainee is assessed for QTS within the 12-month apprenticeship programme, at which point QTS is awarded and the teacher moves to the qualified teachers’ pay scale.
For someone to start a Teaching Apprenticeship they must:
Have the equivalent to a grade 4 in GCSE English and Mathematics. If they intend to teach primary-aged pupils, they will also need a grade 4 GCSE in a science subject.
Have a degree awarded by a UK higher education provider or a recognised equivalent qualification.
Demonstrate fundamental skills in English and Maths to an appropriate level. They will be supported to achieve this if required.
The School Direct (Salaried) route allows schools to employ graduates and help them learn ‘in the job’ as they earn a salary and work towards gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
This route is available for both primary and secondary teaching and is run by individual schools or a group of schools.
Subjects Available: Biology, Chemistry, English, Geography, History, Maths, PE, Physics, and Primary Education
Programme Length: Full Time, 3x Academic Terms
Teaching Qualification: QTS
Salaried Training / Fees for the School: £8,500
Salary: from £19,340 - £24,254
Trainees who opt for a School Direct (Salaried) training programme are employed as an unqualified teacher while they learn in the job. This can be a school the trainee is already working at or has an existing relationship with.
If a trainee applies for a School Direct (Salaried) training programme, one of their references must be from an employer.
Graduates may still be able to apply for a School Direct (Salaried) programme by undertaking a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course if their undergraduate degree is not aligned to the subject they would like to train to teach. e-Qualitas offer short SKE courses (see page 12).
The School Direct (Tuition Fee) programme allows trainee teachers to learn in the role as they work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
The Tuition Fee route is available for both primary and secondary teaching; it is paid for by the trainee and is run by a school, or group of schools, working closely with e-Qualitas to certify successful trainees.

Qualification: Qualified Teacher status (QTS)
Fees & Funding (Academic year 2022/23) £7,200 (Trainee pays)
School Direct programmes are popular with students who are hoping to gain a position in their placement school following their training.
Although trainees are based in a school, they are not employees and in many ways their training will be similar to training programmes in universities and colleges.
Unlike School Direct Salaried, trainees will pay fees - though they might be eligible for funding through student loans, bursaries, or scholarships.
Schools will have option to keep a trainee on as a full-time teacher after they gain their QTS.
Status (QTS) within just 12 weeks, via the Assessment Only route.
The total cost is £3,000 (ex VAT) and no further training is required.
To be eligible for the Assessment Only route you must meet the following requirements:
Have achieved a standard equivalent to a grade 4 (C and above) in GCSE English and Mathematics (Those who intend to teach pupils aged 3 to 11 additionally have achieved a standard equivalent to a grade 4/C and above in a GCSE science (biology, chemistry or physics) or overseas equivalent.
Have at least 2 years teaching experience gained in 2 schools. Hold a first degree granted by a United Kingdom higher education institution or an equivalent overseas qualification.
Have the ability to demonstrate meeting all of the Teachers’ Standards without the need for any further training.
Be currently working in a teaching position at a school either employed/voluntarily.
If you ’ re an experienced teacher working in an international or UK school, you may be eligible to gain British QTS through our ‘Assessment Only’ route.
Whether your teaching experience is from teaching in a UK school or an International School, your experience can have been:
Gained in any type of school (for example, international schools, schools teaching the International Baccalaureate, and state-maintained schools outside the UK).
Spent teaching a non-English curriculum (though you may need to show you have knowledge of the subjects taught in the English curriculum).
Divided between 2 school settings as long as you have 2 years of teaching experience in total.
Your teaching experience must:
Consist of time spent teaching (as opposed to other responsibilities in a school).
Have taken place in 2 separate schools (not 2 classes within the same school or 2 school sites within the same organisation).
Demonstrate you ’ re familiar with different approaches to teaching, learning and school management.
Demonstrate that you have taught the same subject and age range across the 2 settings.

To enrol on the Employment based EYITT route to EYTS, a trainee must have:
GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or recognised equivalent) in English language, maths and science.
A Bachelor’s degree (from any area of study)
Right to study and work in the UK
A position of employment within an early years setting
The DfE requires that all EYITT candidates attend an interview to confirm their suitability and readiness for the EYITT programme.
The Government’s commitment to raising the quality of early years provision, by encouraging graduate leadership, ensures that the DfE covers all course fees and offers a £7,000 incentive to settings.
Ours is a personalised programme, starting with an initial needs assessment to determine your experience and knowledge of the EYFS. This becomes the basis of an action plan for your journey through the course, towards mastery of the EYITT curriculum and meeting the Early Years Teachers’ Standards.

e-Qualitas has partnered with Tellmi, an award winning mental health support app, which provides personal and professional support to users.
The Tellmi app provides a platform for users to discuss and share their thoughts, 100% anonymously, in a human-moderated forum that ensures positive and supportive responses are provided.

e-Qualitas trainees are invited to attend curriculum conferences and inperson training days throught their Initial Teacher Training (ITT programmes).
Training and conference days include sessions from subject leads and education professionals, who provide trainees with information and resources to use in their own teaching practice. e-Qualitas' conferences and training days take place in Central London, providing an opportunity for trainees to network and build connections within their peer group.
Recent conference events have focussed on themes including 'Creating a Climate for Learning' and 'Becoming an Evidence Based Teacher'. Guest speakers have included Professor Patricia Riddell, Professor Becky Parker and Julia Harrington (CEO of BrainCanDo).

e-Qualitas have been created by the National Union of Students (NUS), so money raised via the discount card helps to fund the National Society for Apprentices, which serves to represent our trainees’ needs and those of all vocational learners.
The Trainline Railcard provides trainees with a Digital Railcard enabling them to receive 33% off off the price of train tickets during their Teacher Training. Trainees living in London Boroughs can also receive a 30% discount on TfL transport journeys with an Apprentice Oyster Card (more info at tfl.gov.uk).
