Our curriculum is created using eleven key components, each of which fit together to provide a comprehensive introduction to the core body of knowledge, skills and behaviours that define great teaching.

Mental Health and Well-being

Know and Understand:

• How to develop effective strategies for resilience and self-care.

• Maintain a sustainable work-life balance.

• How to get ready for your first years in teaching and a sustainable and rewarding career beyond.

Evaluative Lesson Planning

KnowandUnderstand:

• How to use research-informed approaches that illustrate the techniques in planning, sequencing, modelling, explaining, questioning and reviewing.

• That novices need more structure early in a domain.

• How to build strong mental models for pupils.

Substantive and Disciplinary Knowledge

Know and Understand:

• That secure subject knowledge helps teachers to motivate pupils and teach effectively.

• How to anticipate common misconceptions and help pupils master important concepts.

Behaviour for Learning, Climate

KnowandUnderstand:

• How to develop learning environments, establish routines and set high expectations that support effective behaviour management.

• Understand the importance of positive relationships and how pupils’ circumstances can affect their behaviours

• Reflect with expert colleagues on behaviour and responses

How Pupils Learn

Know and Understand:

Evidence Informed

KnowandUnderstand:

• How to make decisions to support pupil learning based on the best available evidence of ‘what works’ in education.

• How to make judgements about the right approaches for their own specific context, using research evidence to inform these decisions.

Adaptive Practices and Expertise

Know and Understand:

• How to adapt strategies within a lesson or across lessons to provide support or challenge to pupils.

• How to use information from formative assessments to inform the design of future learning sequences.

Pupil Progress

KnowandUnderstand:

• How to build on foundational knowledge before sequencing more complex content.

• How to take into account pupils’ prior knowledge when planning to introduce new information.

• How to check for understanding to gauge progress in a lesson.

Teacher as Professional

Know and Understand:

• Have a clear understanding of safeguarding and statutory responsibilities.

• Learn how to build effective professional relationships, including with parents and carers and other members of school communities.

• Develop your reflective practice through the embedded use of professional learning conversations with your mentor and other colleagues

Inclusion and Diversity

Know and Understand:

• Learn how to adapt teaching for all to create an inclusive classroom environment, including for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

• Understand the concepts of equity and equality.

Assessment

Know and Understand:

• Learn that effective assessment is critical to teaching and supporting pupils to make progress.

• Learn how to use assessment techniques in an efficient, manageable and timely manner.

• Learn which assessment techniques are particularly effective for your subject/phase
