Yearbook 2023-2024 Student
A year to remember
Dear Students of the 2023-24 School Year,
I hope this finds you looking back proudly on the amazing journey you’ve just finished. As the Executive Chairman and Founder of Educatius, I am happy to congratulate each one of you on your achievements.
You have accomplished something truly special. Leaving your home to study high school abroad took courage and determination - to learn a new language, live with a host family or in a dormitory, and adapt to a new culture and school. But you did it, and you did it well!
As you look through this yearbook, let it remind you of the wonderful memories you’ve made and the friendships you’ve built. Your achievements, big and small, are proof of your hard work and dedication. Let them inspire you to keep following your dreams and to make a positive impact in the world.
I also want to thank the people who helped you on this journey. To the Educatius host families, thank you for welcoming our students into your homes. Your kindness has made a big impact.
To our local coordinators and support staff, your hard work and dedication have been a great help to our students. You have made their experience smooth and enjoyable.
A special thank you also goes to our school and agent partners. Your cooperation and professionality has been very important to the success of our students.
Did you know that your journey has helped others as well? Educatius has a mission to improve access to education around the world. Through Aiducatius, we support students in Tanzania, The Gambia, Brazil, and Ecuador by giving them better educational opportunities. We contribute to sustainability by offsetting student flights and responsibly planting trees. By being part of this program, you have contributed to this mission and made a positive impact beyond yourself.
Although your time abroad has ended, the lessons and experiences you’ve gained will stay with you forever. As you move forward, continue to seek new opportunities, aim high, and remember that your Educatius family is always here to support you.
Once again, congratulations on your achievements. I wish you all the best in the future.
With warm regards,
Tom Ericsson Executive Chairman and Founder Educatius
OUR MISSION EXTENDS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
We believe in the transformative power of education, and we are dedicated to making a beneficial and long-lasting impact on the world. When you study high school abroad with Educatius, you make a difference beyond yourself. Here’s how:
Access to education
While studying abroad may be an achievable dream for some, not all students have that chance. Meet Aiducatius, our sister organization, supporting schools in Africa and Latin America to improve student access to education. Aiducatius also provides essentials like uniforms, meals, and textbooks. This hands-on aid ensures sustainable education, benefiting not just the students but their families and communities.
Growing sustainable impact
Recognizing the negative consequences of air travel that international student exchange requires, we have been supporting responsible tree planting and conservation projects in Tanzania since 2009.
Offsetting student travel
Expanding beyond our support of responsible tree planting, we have made a further commitment to invest in global climate action projects. From 2023, Educatius will partially offset the carbon emissions produced by student air travel.
Global Youth Resilience Initiative
Year after year, Educatius welcomes thousands of international students from more than 60 nations. The Global Youth Resilience Initiative is our mission to support resilience among our high school students, paving the way for personal growth!
Get involved
Our students and alumni can get involved personally in making an impact through projects like the Aiducatius Creativity Internship and the Global Impact Fund. Keep an eye out for ways you can be apply. Join the Educatius community on

What was your proudest moment?
My proudest moment after being in USA for 10 months are that I got to make so many memories and meet new people and make friends from all over the world. I got to try a lot of new things. All from food to new sports.
What are your future plans?
My future plans in life is to travel as much as possible and see how our world is built. And I also want to work with people worldwide. But before that, I am going to study at home in Sweden for a few years.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
While I was here, I did figure skating, gymnastics and lacrosse. I did figure skating because I do that at home in Sweden. The other two I did to try something new and it was the right decision. I learned stuff I have never tried before and I made a lot of friends.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I learned that I can trust myself and I also have more confidence in myself. (…)
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
I loved to live with my host family. It was a really new experience and they made my year in feel special. We all together tried to make the most out of my year, and it was successful. My favourite memory with them was to travel to many different states. My favourite ones were when we went to Colorado and Florida.
"My proudest moment was when I was nominated as school ambassador!"
What will you take from this experience into the future?
From the time of being in the USA I have taken with me that I can trust myself and always try new stuff, because you never know if you will find something new you love. And also to see the other parts of our planets. And I know that even if I am physically alone somewhere, I will always have my family and friends behind and supporting me.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
My advice is to try new things such as sports, clubs and other stuff. You get a whole new experience and you get easily more and new friends. It is also a way to keep your mind focused on something else then about home and get homesick.
Did you apply to and get accepted into a university or college? If yes, which universities/ colleges?
When I get back home from Sweden, I will attend CIS, Calmare Internationella Skola. It is an international school in my home city.

Don't be scared to do something just for what people will think about it and if you feel homesick at the beginning it's normal but don't stick with that thinking all the time, just try to find something else to do and everything will be fine.

What was your proudest moment?
Getting a 1, “excellent performer” when I did district solo & ensemble. I got to rehearse two songs with my choir teacher and then I performed it in front of a jury who gave me a score, and I got the highest you can get!
What are your future plans?
After this year I’m going back to Sweden to do 2 more years of high school. After I’m done with that I’ve started thinking about going to college in the US also. It’s been so fun here that I think, after 2 years in Sweden, I’m gonna want to come back and live here again.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
Choir and tennis
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I learned how good I am at adapting to new places, people and a new culture.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
Yes, me and my host family went to Mackinac Island in May for a few days and it was absolutely amazing. It was so beautiful there, and it was really good to get to spend some time just the family in the end of the year.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
It has made me believe in myself more, and understand that everything is possible. I’ve wanted to do an exchange year for many years before, and actually making it and doing one has been so amazing. I’m really proud of myself for doing this.
"It has made me believe in myself more, and understand that everything is possible."
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Take every opportunity. If someone invites you to something, GO! And even if they don’t invite you, try to go up to people and talk to them. It almost never ends bad, and if it would become awkward or not, you can just laugh about it later (and you can always blame it on that you're an exchange student, if always works :))
Dilma Izabel A.
From
Brazil School: Burr and Burton Academy, Vermont
What was your proudest moment?
When I said yes to my dream, to my exchange. This was one of the moments when I felt that my life was just beginning, and then the feeling of proud of myself came strongly in my heart. And when I got home I just said "I DID IT" because I realized my dream, looking back and thinking about everything I've lived, really, it's all worth it.
What are your future plans?
Going to college, getting married, being a mother, and having many children. I want to have a very prosperous life, and maybe one day, meet again the people who were part of my life in my exchange year.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I tried Cross country, me and my friend, just for once, the experience was super funny, I'll keep it in my memory for the rest of my life
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I learned that I'm a super cheerful and friendly person, I didn't believe it until I realized that I really am. I like to make friends, cook, laugh, and make other people laugh. And that I'm a person who charges themselves too much, not that this is a problem, but it became when it was crossing the limits. Today I already know how to control and deal with it. The exchange opens my eyes.
Did you go to a Boarding School? What was it like to live on campus?
It was very cool, it seems that everything gets cooler, you get closer to the international students, we do more things together, we can stay at each other's house. We laugh and cry together, we understand each other when we talk about our home country. It's amazing to know that I've met people from other parts of the world, knowing your culture and your native language, it makes the experience more exciting.
"Cry, smile, hug, feel butterflies in your stomach, smile as if it were a new life, and because it is a life, a new experience."
What will you take from this experience into the future?
It's all up to you, do you want to do it? Do it. Don't expect from others, they can give you the kindness and the word, but you are the one who acts.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Cry, smile, hug, feel butterflies in your stomach, smile as if it were a new life, and because it is a life, a new experience. You have the right to feel, you are in another country, everything different, you can bet that there will be people who will be there to support you, there will be times when you want to return home, but when you are at home, in your memory there will only be good memories, and then you will cry with longing wanting to go back to your second home, in another country.

Getting to be part of the My Fair Lady cast. I loved being part of a musical for the very first time with such a professional team.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I learned how to be more responsible and really got out of my comfort zone which I wasn't used to at all. It was a great experience.
Did you live with a Host Family?
If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
Yes I lived with a host family. At the beginning it felt like I was at a never ending sleep-over. But then I really started to feel at home and I wouldn't change it for nothing! I've come to get to know my family and I love them a lot. They've always been there for me. I couldn't be more grateful.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
Studying abroad has been really hard mentally, physically and emotionally. It's truly not for the week. You're far from home and you lose your landmarks. But you'll come out of it as a grown person who knows more and is more wise. Here I learned English of course. But I also learned how to manage my money on my own, be on time, own up what I do wrong and communicate more.
"Yes it is super fun and you'll make a lot of friends. But it'll also be hard and you'll have moments of doubts and worry but in the end everything will get better and you'll truly grow as a person and be ready for your next steps in life."
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
I'd tell them to not expect their exchange year to be like High School Musical. Yes it is super fun and you'll make a lot of friends. But it'll also be hard and you'll have moments of doubts and worry but in the end everything will get better and you'll truly grow as a person and be ready for your next steps in life.

What was your proudest moment?
I founded my own brand while studying abroad. I started with nothing and then got to the finals and won 2nd place. I reached my personal goal while being on this exchange and that was improving my English and not being afraid of talking English anymore.
What are your future plans?

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I joined the school basketball team and started boxing. I started boxing in 09/23 and I loved from the first minute I had my gloves on. I learned that you shouldn't pressure yourself and shouldn't force you to not do anything that you are not comfortable with. Everyone is different, some people are faster and some aren't. Don't compare yourself to others and only you know if you are ready to do the next move or not.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
While studying abroad I understood that you should never change yourself for others. Because the more you change the worse you feel and the more uncomfortable I felt. I now know my value and I know that I'm the only person that can make me feel 100% happy and if I'm not I'm in charge of changing that and I will the next time I am uncomfortable. The more happier you are the more confident you are and as we all know confidence is key.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them? They didn't really show me a real local experience, but my favorite memory is swimming during the sunset in the sea and going for spin during the Northern Lights in May.
"You're so much stronger and of so much more capable than you think you are. You just have to leave your comfort zone and always be yourself and you will get further than you think."
What will you take from this experience into the future?
I will always be grateful for this experience because it made me realize how independent you can be and it proved to me that you are able to live alone and start over. I felt insecure and scared before and now I'm happy, know my value, am as confident as I every was and know I'm capable of everything that will happen in the future and that there is no need at all to be scared because everything is gonna work out the way it's supposed to be.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
You're so much stronger and of so much more capable than you think you are. You just have to leave your comfort zone and always be yourself and you will get further than you think.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
Yes I did! And I highly recommend others to do that as well. I continued to play table tennis, however on a lower level than home. But it did not matter too much. I had really fun. I also started to play tennis. I haven’t done that before and it was great.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
A lot. How I work with others, my personal conditions and how I could use those. I have also learned to see the world from a different perspective. A perspective where some things are different and some are similar. What I can do myself.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
Yes. Probably around Christmas. Otherwise just watching rugby or cricket together.
"Now I feel like somebody, I’ve done something, something great. And now I know how a life could be on the other side of the planet."
What will you take from this experience into the future?
A huge amount of things. The perspective of a different culture and country. How the world works for them and compared to our society back home. Also of course to speak English without hindrance. It is very helpful in my current job. I will remember the beautiful nature and the great people of New Zealand. The kind people that decided to invite me to their home. And my friends who willingly invited me almost without knowing me to become one of them. Now I feel like somebody, I’ve done something, something great. And now I know how a life could be on the other side of the planet.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Be very open minded. Try to get friends in your classes and age, instead of other international students if possible. They could also be friends of course. Every student have a different experience than everyone else. Especially with the host families being so different. So do not compare to others. Do really look up the things you might need beforehand. Especially stuff to school. (Especially if you will have a school uniform).

Yes, I did. I love all my host family members in a way I could not possibly quantify. We shared so many precious moments from the family trips to the daily routine. My favorite memory was sitting around the campfire, making s’mores and playing games on a Spring night. That day, which could sound like the most trivial moment ever, was the moment where I realized that they really are a family to me, and that no matter where I will be or how much time will pass I will always have a second home.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
I will definitely take the awareness that I am capable of achieving everything I set my heart and my mind to. I will never forget how I was able to deal with myself in every occasion and learn from every mistake. I gained confidence and grown into a more mature, thoughtful human being. I will also take with me the urgency to help others that has always characterized me, but more than ever grew as I met new people with different pasts and stories that weren’t always sunshine and rainbows.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Trust yourself, always and deeply. You are capable of doing whatever you aim to. Even when you feel alone, you will never truly be. Open yourself to the world and don’t be scared to be the most genuine version of yourself.

What was your proudest moment?
I worked as a lifeguard in Japan and learned Japanese CPR. So, I wanted to see how different it was from Sweden, so I took a CPR class in Sweden. There was a CP class at school, but I took basic CPR for emergency medical technicians myself. Although I couldn't understand Swedish and it was a little difficult, I was able to successfully complete the course.
What are your future plans?
As a midwife, I would like to work to eliminate medical disparities and childbirth safety disparities in developing countries. I learn what happens in each country from new immigrants. In my school there were new immigrants And also I became friends. So I have the opportunity to hear about their country. After hearing that, I couldn't stop to research more about that. Then I learned how girls are treated and how dangerous childbirth is. Thus I decided to work in these countries.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I joined in Stil Undervattensruggby in Luleå with my host father. We played every Sunday and Thursday. It is a tough and crazy sport lol. We play without breath and dive to a 3 meter pool. It is a pretty fun sport.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
First, I realized that I wasn't able to take care of my health. Up until now, the temperature in Japan had not changed as dramatically as in Sweden, so I had never paid much attention to it. However, each day in Sweden was like a different season, and the daily temperature varied greatly, so I had to take care of my health. Next, I learned that I was not good at task management. At Japanese schools, teachers strictly control submissions and tests, so I didn't manage my own tasks. But in Sweden, it was difficult because the teachers didn't intervene much and I had to manage myself. I learned that I should take better care of herself.
"It is very difficult to live in a country where you do not speak your native language. However, by overcoming these difficulties, you can grow a lot."
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
Christmas is my most favorite memory with my host family. I have a host father, a mother, 3 brothers, 4 cats, and 27 alpacas. One of the brothers has a family. A wife, a girl and a boy. They often live in another house, but at Christmas we celebrated together. We made roussebrar, ate turkey and waited for tomten. I'm an adult but I could get a present from my host family.(But the girl and the boy said it is from tomten) It is a really cute moomins mug. I love it! This is my most favorite mug.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
Through this study abroad experience, I was able to learn about various countries. Eurovision taught me about other countries in Europe, my friends taught me about the culture and charm of Sweden, and my immigrant friends taught me about the culture of those countries. I taught about Japanese culture. I felt that learning about the culture of another country was like standing at the gateway to becoming interested in that country, and that it was a step toward world peace by understanding each other's differences. Japan is an island country, and it is not easy to see and hear about other countries' cultures. Without independent action, it is almost impossible for information to learn about another country's culture. So, after returning to Japan, I would like to participate in international exchange events myself. Also, since I was able to learn Swedish, I plan to continue studying and obtain a Swedish language qualification after returning to Japan.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
It is very difficult to live in a country where you do not speak your native language. However, by overcoming these difficulties, you can grow a lot. There is no one who does not fail. The more you fail, the closer you get to success. So don't be afraid to try different things. With this one person, you can become a different person.

I love to describe living in a boarding school has having a 24/7 slumber party. Like my chemistry teacher said, you will only have fun, as much as you try to have fun. So I try involving myself in a lot of things within the residential community and the one thing I, for sure, will miss is making Sunday Walmart Runs with my dorm friends. During school breaks I lived with my friend’s family who welcomed me with open arms every time I needed a place to stay. They took me places I never knew I would go and made me feel like I truly have a family in the United States. Thanks to the Ouellettes!

From Germany School: The Bourne Academy, United Kingdom
What was your proudest moment?
One of my proudest moment was definitely when I was singing with my friend in a local pub and all the people singing and dancing along and just being happy with the both of us. But overall I‘m so proud of what I achieved here, all the challenges I faced successfully, all the beautiful moments with my loved ones here, all the cities I visited and all the people I got to know in that rather short span of time.
What are your future plans?
I will finish my final exams in Germany when I‘ll get back and then hopefully start studying psychology. But first things first: I‘ll take a break from education and hopefully do a work and travel gap year in the land down under (Australia;). That’s one of my biggest dreams that has actually developed in the time I spent here because I really want to go out and discover more places in the world.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I realised that I‘m actually not that unorganised as I thought I was before coming here. I really improved in this area and I hope I will be able to keep that up in the future! Aswell as reacting to certain situations in the right way. While you’re in another country and you are on your own, you will have to manage a lot of things on your own that you probably wouldn’t at home. I had a hard time not instantly freaking out when something unexpected happened before I came here. Now I‘m a lot more relaxed and I‘m able to accept certain things I wouldn’t be able to accept that easily earlier.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
My host mum with whom I lived most of the time here was really nice from the beginning on and instantly welcomed me. We didn’t spend too much time together here but the time we had was wonderful. Laughing at the dinner table and talking about a lot of stuff from life in general to recent stories we had to tell. I had quite a good relationship with my local coordinator here. She was really kind and helpful in various situations and struggles I had. When I had a problem or a question she was always quick to answer with a helpful advice.
"I believe I‘m a better version of myself than I was before: more prepared for what I want to do, discover and achieve in life"
What will you take from this experience into the future?
I developed a lot being here. My stay here has made me a lot more focused on my goals and what I want to do with my life because I got opportunities here that I probably wouldn’t have had back home. Staying here helped me to discover what I want to study and do for a job and it made some things a lot clearer regarding my social and personal life. I believe I‘m a better version of myself than I was before: more prepared for what I want to do, discover and achieve in life, as well as stronger in terms of facing challenges and struggles and handling stressful situations on my own.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
First of all: If you’re thinking about it, do it! Money comes back, time and memories don’t. Go out with your friends, step out of you comfort zone, do what you want to do because we’re not getting any younger. The world has so much to offer for all of us, so go and discover what it has in store for you! But also: Don’t be disappointed or discouraged if something doesn’t happen the way you expected it to happen. Leaving a country doesn’t mean everything will be perfect. You’ll have your struggles here, you will cry, you will want to go home at some point. Even though you’re somewhere else doesn’t mean life stops. This is life here and we’re living it. Good and bad things are supposed to happen everywhere. But don’t let it bring you down. Everything happens for a reason. A setback is not a setback, only if you let it develop into one! The sun must set to rise. Even if you’re sad sometimes doesn’t mean it’s going to stay like this forever!

I lived with a host family who had 4 children. The best part was skiing with all of them and all of the trips they took me on. Plus they made amazing food!!
What will you take from this experience into the future?
I love being independent and now I am super excited for college since I get to be independent again.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Reach out and make friends. It made it so easy for me being an extrovert. If you stay quiet and don’t talk to people then they will not try to be friends with you. Try your best to be friendly and extroverted.
"I felt like a new person and nobody had anything negative to think about me for the first time. I was able to create a good first impression without anyone knowing who I was."

What was your proudest moment?
One of the most special moments of my exchange was my farewell party. All my friends came to my house and we had a bonfire with sparklers in the garden. More than 25 people came and that's when I realised how lucky I was this year to have met so many great people!
What are your future plans?
Next year I'm going to do my second year of scientific baccalaureate and if everything goes well, I'm going to study medicine! I'm starting to work to be able to buy tickets to the United States so I can spend the next summer with my other family and friends, in my favourite place!
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I did sideline cheerleading in the autumn which was just like in the American movies, I had a great time! Then I did competitive cheerleading which was very different from what I imagined but I had a great time too. Finally, during the spring I did Track and Field and it was definitely my favourite sport, I met so many people and it gave me the best moments of my year!!!
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
After surrounding myself with fantastic people, I learned that I can be myself and enjoy myself without being afraid of being judged! That I don't have to do everything perfect all the time, that my effort and myself is enough. I have learned that you have to know how to say goodbye and make decisions even when you think it is impossible, that you have to know what kind of people you want by your side and which ones are better to leave behind!
"I learned that I can be myself and enjoy myself without being afraid of being judged!"
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
For Mother's Day, my host family and I had an American board game night and it was super fun! My host dad kept making us laugh with his nonsense and me and my host sisters let my mum win the games because she was so excited. She was so happy when she won, she made us our favourite dish and we all ate together while watching a movie!
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Make the most of every moment as if it were your last! Don't focus on what people think or if it's the right decision, if you have the opportunity to try something new, do it, you won't regret it! Going on exchange is the best thing I have ever done in my life and I wish it could have lasted forever! Also remember that not all the way is rosy, but even in the not so good times, you can always find things that make you stronger!

My first day and holiday in Alabama during Spring Break.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Talk, enjoy the moment, don't think about the future, just live, say yes to everything, don't judge anyone without knowing them (maybe someone wonderful who is going to change your year is hiding in them), create a good relationship with your host family (after all they are going to be your parents for a year, and I would say that the relationship I have with them is the best thing I take away from here).

What was your proudest moment?
My proudest moment has to be graduation. My friends and family were there to support me, and my family from Italy was watching the ceremony live on YouTube. This was not only the ending of my exchange year in the US, but also the beginning of a new academic journey thanks to the actual American diploma I got from my school.
What are your future plans?
My future plans are to finish high school in Italy, to then move to northern Europe and continue my studies at university. This experience taught me that no matter how hard it seems, I can do and achieve great things on my own, becoming the person I’ve always dreamed of being.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
In the US sports are everything, social life strictly depends on them. I joined the volleyball team and managed basketball. Volleyball was by far my favorite sport. The team was great and welcoming, the coaches very friendly and patient, and everyone was truly passionate. Managing basketball I had the opportunity to go to every practice and game, help the coach and team out, and still be involved in a team. I met amazing people during this season, and got closer to the other manager that I can now call my best friend and is planning to come visit me in Italy.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
Being abroad you need to learn how to be by yourself. This might seem easy. But mind you than being alone abroad also means not having mom or dad to help you out during hard times. Personally I’ve always been very independent but I never gave much thought to how much my family actually was always supporting me from the side. This experience taught me than I can do and achieve whatever I set my mind to, but also that family, blood related or not, will always come first in my life.
"This experience taught me that no matter how hard it seems, I can do and achieve great things on my own, becoming the person I’ve always dreamed of being."
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
My mom and dad were absolutely great. They were always there to give me advice or support me through the hardest times of my year. My sister truly became my best friend. She is an amazing person, that loves so deeply and was always there to help me. She would drive me around, bring me to her appointments or include me when she was hanging out with friends. Now, this doesn’t mean we wouldn’t argue, we are sister after all! My local was amazing, I could talk to her freely and when I was having problems I could call her and she would immediately pick up and help me. She was the kindest and greatest person I could have asked for.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
Studying abroad change my perception of myself and of others completely. I learned that some people are destined to be your persons are some aren’t, and that is ok. Not everyone can like you. I was always looking for approval from others but never really stopped to get it from myself. I now enjoy being me and being around me. I now know that I can do anything I set my mind to, and that I have to put myself first.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Do not be scared of being you, do not lie about who you are and what you love cause you will find people who love you for who you are.
Think about yourself first and who you want to be as a person, do not think about being liked by others if they are simply not meant to be your people. Also, allow yourself time to adjust. People will be curious of who you are and where you come from, but they will need to see that you are motivated to know them too. Do not be afraid of letting yourself go and talk to them first. Be you, you’re amazing and you’ll find your people.

What was your proudest moment?
I have the honor of being voted the captain of varsity football and basketball teams, rewarded with the best international senior thesis award, and graduated with a 4.0 GPA, being a member of the honor society. However, I am most proudful of being accepted to ASU’s Barret's honor school with a maximum international student scholarship.
What are your future plans?

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
I live in the Tierneys, I have been friends with their son Kevin since last year and we have become close friends. My relationship with them is precious and they call me the “honorary Tierney”. My favorite memory with them is my football senior night, I saluted Tierney as my celebration for scoring a touchdown. My local coordinator Cristi Youngkin is a phenomenal LC, honestly, she deserved a raise. She always went above and beyond to make sure our experiences as international students. I admired her dedication to her duty, she always checked on me, made sure that I was okay, and even prayed for me.
"I am most proudful of being accepted to ASU’s Barret's honor school with a maximum international student scholarship."
What will you take from this experience into the future?
Studying abroad has made me realize that experience does matter, and that the world is much bigger than I think. My abroad journey proved to me that if I work hard and am dedicated to the goal, everything is within reach. I will remember the challenges that I faced the most because the hardship is what formed my personality, not the pleasurable experiences. Before studying abroad, I would lie if I said that I was not nervous about the upcoming predicaments of studying abroad, but now I can say confidently that studying abroad is the best decision I have ever made.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Try everything, then you will know what you like and hate if you pass on the opportunities, they may never come again.

What was your proudest moment?
My proudest moment was to make and go through with the decision of leaving my home country and my family to experience a whole new culture and language. I was very scared to leave especially since I didn't know how to speak French.
What are your future plans?
I plan to study architecture abroad, but I am not sure where yet. I have become very positive to continue my education abroad after this exchange year.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
During my year abroad I learned that I am capable of doing difficult things even though it might seem impossible at first. In most cases the option of staying in your comfort zone may seem more appealing than choosing to make decisions that will do otherwise. I learned that the decisions that take you out of your comfort zone will benefit me more in the future.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
During my exchange year I lived with a host family that introduced me to French and German culture. During the fallbreak we did a boat trip through rivers in Alsace which is the region that I lived in. I got to see French nature, traditional architecture, and many cities in Alsace.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
I will remember the moment when I first arrived where I was extremely excited to start a new life in France. I had been dreaming of an exchange year in France for a very long time, and was very happy to finally make this dream come true.
"I learned that the decisions that take you out of your comfort zone will benefit me more in the future."
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
My advice to future exchange students would be to do as many activities as you can with your friends, and to discover new places in the country you are staying in. And take a lot of pictures! It's nice to be able to look back at pictures when you have returned back home.

What was your proudest moment?
For sure when I started to talk in Swedish, everyone told me they were really impressed by that and I was really happy to achieve those goals for the language. I realized that I could completely understand the Swedish songs that I used to listen to before coming to Sweden.
What are your future plans?
The year abroad made me open my mind to other possibilities for the future, like studying or in a further future working in Sweden.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I have joined volleyball and beach volley during this year. Volleyball wasn't new to me but beach volley was, I enjoyed them both because I had the opportunity to know more people and have something to do every week.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I actually feel like I have learned everything about myself during this year. I wasn't used to spend time alone before coming to Sweden and I had never really wanted to know myself before. During this year I have learned how I really am and how I react in front of different situations, how I am with people around but even that I can do things on my own. Now I know my strengths and my weaknesses, I know what I have to work on and what I have to keep on doing to feel good and be happy. I think I realised who I want to be personally and maybe even how to try to achieve that.
"I have probably learned the differences between volleyball and beach volley and the perception and importance of these sports in Sweden."
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
They have always been really nice and they treated me like a daughter and sister, in the first days they have showed me everything around to make me understand where I was and make me feel comfortable. The best memories are at my birthday when they brought me to eat in a restaurant at the rooftop of the Gothia towers and I have eaten ""räkmacka"", a traditional dish from the west coast in Sweden. Other beautiful moments were for sure the trips that we did to Umeå, to Skåne and to Stockholm, but even when they showed me places closer to Kungsbacka for example at the sea. They have been really nice with the language too, they have talked in English for the first months but then they have always talked to me in Swedish and they have spurred me to speak Swedish.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
I will take for sure all the beautiful people that I got to know, all the places that I have seen, of course the new language and all the cultural differences. This experience made me understand that I am strong enough to do what I want to do and be who I want to be, it made me grow personally under every point of view because I was actually most of the time dealing with everything on my own, but I understood that asking for help when I don't know what to do or how to do it is a sign of strength. I will remember the most how I came here and how I will go back home, the big growth that I had because of all the new things that I have done and seen, all the people that I met and the culture that gave me a new perspective on daily life.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
I would tell them that there will be a lot of moments where they will miss home or they will feel wrong for something around them, but that does not mean that they are doing the wrong thing or they are not enough to do that. Another really important thing is to try to not compare their own experience to someone else's because they all are different.

Being one of the Honorary Court members at the Homecoming parade at my school! It was absolutely a privilege and an opportunity to be introduced to the whole community, that was really friendly and made me feel welcome.
What are your future plans?
Once I'm back from my experience, I will finish high school and then go to university in my home country, to specialize probably in International studies, but I'm looking forward to studying abroad for a period of time too. I would also love to come back to the U.S. to finish my course of studies and get a master at University of Michigan.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I joined Cross country in the fall, Quiz bowl and Drama club in the winter, and Track and field in the spring. They all allowed me to make a lot of friends and to live some of the absolute best moments of my whole experience. Especially joining Cross country, that was my biggest fear at the beginning, since I’m not used to be an athlete, eventually turned out to be a wonderful experience I will never forget and I will always take in my heart.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
First of all I learned how I impacted the lives of the people I met during this year and realized how powerful my positivity and my influence was on them. I can’t believe that being with them for just 9 months would impact their life forever. And then this year demonstrated to me that there are no limits, I can be everything I want to be.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
The first days with my host family were amazing: we spent all the time together, they showed me our town and also other cute places nearby, and I was able to try a lot of different things in just a few days. And then I really enjoyed going on vacation during school breaks, especially Florida during Christmas break!
"What I brought home from my year in the U.S. is actually much more than what I expected: beside being bilingual, having friends all around the world, and calling home two different places, I learned a lot about life and how I should live it to the fullest, and then I found a new me"
What will you take from this experience into the future?
What I brought home from my year in the U.S. is actually much more than what I expected: beside being bilingual, having friends all around the world, and calling home two different places, I learned a lot about life and how I should live it to the fullest, and then I found a new me, who’s grown and become a better person, thanks to the new perspective on myself and the world that this year gave me.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
My best memory with my host family is when they took me to go sledging down a mountain, in Madrid it never snows and when it snowed there it was spectacular. Another memory was when they took me to see the biggest zoo in the world and when they gave me tickets to see Bad Bunny.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
The first piece of advice I would give them is not to have expectations, every exchange is different and each one is special. Another piece of advice I would give them is not to bring too many clothes because in the state they are in they will buy a lot of clothes or your friends will give you clothes, so I recommend not to take almost any clothes with you.

What was your proudest moment?
My proudest moment will be a collection of all the little moments, like when I dared to stand up and speak in front of the class or when I stepped outside my comfort zone to join a new club or get to know new people! It sure was scary, but when I was done, it wasn't scary after all.
What are your future plans?
My future goals are not just aspirations, they are my driving force. I am determined to maintain my French, as it's a language that has become a part of me. My dream, my ultimate goal, is to move to France and immerse myself in its culture, with the hope of one day becoming a director.

Everything. Learning to be self-sufficient and think for myself has been an essential factor that I've been able to practice. Getting to know yourself and leaving everything you know and are familiar with to jump into something completely new and get used to it is also something I'm sure I'll need.
"I am determined to maintain my French, as it's a language that has become a part of me. My dream, my ultimate goal, is to move to France"

Don't be afraid; embrace the unknown and enjoy every moment while it lasts. It goes so fast, even though some days feel longer. It's not easy and not for everyone, but if you get through it, it will be the best memory you will have. What was your proudest moment?
I am proud of the realisation that I got about myself: I am capable of doing so many things. There is no need to talk down on myself and I know that if I really put my mind into it I will be able to do it some way or another. I am also proud of myself for just being able to build a completely new life for myself from basically nothing! It was the thing I was most scared of, but I did it, and I did it good.
What are your future plans?
Traveling is definitely one of my favourite things in the world and maybe studying abroad again during university doesn’t even seem too crazy to me! But my first priority for now is to continue to build my life at home that I have left behind.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
After a while I joined a yoga class in town with my friend, and it was definitely one of the best decisions I took. Not only was the movement profitably for my body and physical health but also for my own sanity the meditation in the class helped to keep myself together, because I can’t deny it, sometimes this experience brought me to the verge of a possible breakdown.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
So much more than I thought there was to learn! I learned that I am not as introverted as I thought I was and that I can sometimes even be a bit more egoistic, because as long as it doesn’t hurt others it will probably only benefit me. Building new connections and finding new friends is not as scary as it seems. Saying that I am able to do absolutely anything would be a complete lie, but now I know that it is fine to not be able to do everything and anything all at once. I have friends and family that support me and will help me when I need them.
"I am capable of doing so many things. There is no need to talk down on myself and I know that if I really put my mind into it I will be able to do it some way or another."
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
Even if my host family was completely different from what I excepted I was happy and thankful for them. The Taylor family welcomed me and my roommate Veronica with open arms and always tried to help us if needed. Even if I‘m not able to call them my "second family" I really enjoyed all the talks I had with my host mom and my favourite moments were the conversation we held while she sat down on my bed with me.
What will you take from this experience into the future?
For the future I should just be more open for all the possible opportunities that encounter me throughout my life. The thing I will remember most are the people I met here. I really hope I can achieve to stay in contact with all of the amazing friends I met along the way. And I’m sure that just as they supporter me while we were here together they will be there for me, no matter of what parts of the world we are scattered across. <3
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Sometimes you just have to go along with it. Saying "yes“ to maybe the most random opportunities won’t kill you but open so many doors. Also, even if there is one part about the experience that makes you question your decision and takes up so much of your energy, there can be another part that gives it all back to you.

What was your proudest moment?
One of the hardest parts of my exchange was the school, since it was in a language I did not understand at first, however after a few months I could understand most or a big part of the conversations around me and lectures, which was a big accomplishment for me.
What are your future plans?
Since I still have two more years of studies left in my home country, I will continue with those, however this year made me more sure about going to university abroad in the future, even though I'm still not sure what I'm going to study.
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I haven't joined any extracurriculars, since there are none provided by the school, however I did often visit an after-school centre mostly centered around art and music, where you could join their atelier and paint, draw or do anything else, or go to a music studio and a practice room. I really enjoyed going there, since it was right next to my school and the atmosphere was so welcoming and I could relax after a whole day of school. I wish we had something similar in my home country as well.
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I learned that I was more resilient than I thought I was.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
I live with an amazing and big host family, who I have a bunch of great memories with. It’s the bigger things like going to San Diego with them, celebrating Christmas, going to prom with my host sisters but there’s also the smaller things like cooking with my host mom, having lake days, road trips, playing with my host siblings, hanging out with my hosts sisters and my American friends who gave me the real American teenage experience. Out of all of them, I can’t choose, I have so many good memories with all of them that’s gonna stay with me for the rest of my life.
"We started a rock band and played multiple concerts at school."

What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Take this year as a break from school, don’t overwork yourself unnecessarily. It’s okay to not go out every single day, you don’t have to feel guilty for needing some time alone. What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
My advice (my opinion) is not to stay between exchange students, it's as if you're lying to yourself and you don't want to admit that you are able to integrate into a new environment, and that you don't want to take risks. Immediately when I arrived in Ireland I met an Irish girl and with whom I spent my year, she became my best friend in Ireland and thanks to her I was able to meet other Irish people, and in the end I completely integrated and I had an Irish life in the end and people no longer saw me at all as an exchange student. I was also able to practice Gaelic Football throughout my year and I spent a wonderful year with my team (Latton Ladies).

What was your proudest moment?
I feel so proud of myself when I can take the initiative without being afraid of making any mistakes, especially in the linguistic context when I realize that I can understand what my host family, my classmates and especially their teachers are saying is always a great personal pride
What are your future plans?
I understood that I want to keep studying, and maybe even in Ireland, I hope I’ll keep going studying English, improving my language’s skill
Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?
I Joined two athletics teams, the school one and one in the city with an official team
What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?
I learned how hard can be leaving in a different country, with a different language.
I’ve always been afraid of people’s prejudices, but here I realised that life is one and I’ll never be 17 again in Ireland and I’ve started to put my own well-being before everyone else’s; by focusing on myself, I’ve become more reflective, and I’ve learned to control my “impulsive” reactions by better managing stress. I started to focus on the good things instead of the bad things. I started to have a more optimistic perspective, looking for the good in all things instead of focusing on the smallest things that weren't right.
Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?
With my host family, I have a beautiful relationship, and I am sure we will stay in touch after my experience is over. I really have so many memories but the one that stuck with me the most is when I cooked pizza and cookies together with my host sister (9 years old) and my host brother (7 years old), we had so much fun and it will always be one of the happiest memories I have had of this year abroad.
"I started to have a more optimistic perspective, looking for the good in all things instead of focusing on the smallest things that weren't right."
What will you take from this experience into the future?
First of all, I will try to enjoy the summer then I start preparing for the re-entry tests for the Italian school. After this experience, I will continue my studies at the University, perhaps in Ireland, but I do not have a clear idea yet, I hope to continue to study English in order to improve my language skills.
What advice would you give future students who are going to study abroad?
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and make friends, you have to take the initiative. The host family and friends are the most important part and help you feel less homeless. Find an afterschool activity to broaden friendships and maintain physical and mental well-being. Try to create as many memories as possible, that this experience will fly in no time.
