A year to remember

Dear International Students,

I hope this letter finds you proudly recalling your incredible high school experience with Educatius during the 2022-23 year. As the CEO of Educatius, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of you.

You have all achieved something truly remarkable. Leaving your home to study high school in the USA, UK, or Ireland was no small feat. It takes courage and determination to adapt to a new language, live with a host family or in a dormitory, and immerse yourself in a new culture and academic environment. But you did it, and judging from your experiences, you did it well!

As you look through this yearbook, may it serve as a reminder of the incredible moments you've had and the friends you've made along the way. Your achievements, big and small alike, are worth celebrating, and they should inspire you to keep reaching for your dreams.

I want to take a moment to recognize the people who made this possible. To the local Educatius host families and dormitory staff, thank you for providing a welcoming environment for our students. Your kindness has made a significant impact.

To our dedicated local coordinators and support staff, your hard work has been instrumental in helping our students navigate through this journey successfully. Your commitment to their well-being and personal growth is truly commendable.

A special thanks also goes out to our school and agent partners. Your collaboration has contributed to the success of our students.

But, were you aware that you made an impact beyond yourself and your new friends? Educatius has a mission to make a positive impact on education globally. Through Aiducatius, Educatius supports students in Tanzania, The Gambia, Brazil, and Ecuador, providing them with better opportunities for education. Just by participating in the program, you have contributed toward our mission with Aiducatius.

Although your time abroad has to an end, the experiences you've gained and the lessons you've learned will stay with you forever. Keep embracing new opportunities, keep striving for greatness, and know that you have a supportive Educatius family cheering you on every step of the way.

What was your proudest moment?

There were actually quite a few... The first was when I took a plane on my own for the first time. Then, when I made my first friends. But I think my proudest moment was when I was nominated as school ambassador!

What are your future plans?

I will go to University in my home country probably to become an Environmental Engineer. Then afterwards, I want to work and travel all over the world. Eco-friendly of course! ;)

What was your favorite memory with your host family?

I think my favourite memory with my host family was when we went on holiday together. It was so nice to discover new places with them. I also enjoyed walking to restaurants with them! I enjoyed the dinner I had with my Local Coordinator and the other exchange students as well.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

As soon as I arrived I started doing Kickboxing and Parkrun. I really enjoy it! I guess it made me also quite sportier.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

Studying in the UK was quite an adjustment! They have much less subjects than I'm used to but also much more homework. However, I'll happily recall that in my free-periods I frequently spent my time with my friends in cafes in town. Of course, I learnt lots of English. However, I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't adopted a British accent.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Go for it! Talk with as many people as possible, do and learn as many new things as possible and enjoy yourself as much as possible! This is your year! However, it can be difficult to find friends and adapt to the new environment. But don't let

that discourage you! Keep busy and don't let yourself drown in disappointment when something isn't as you had anticipated. Remember: this is your year and no one can take that experience from you!

As little tip against the cold and humidity of Britain in winter: take some thermal clothes!

I learned that I am capable of a lot of things

Living in a boarding school was the best!

What will you take from this experience into the future?

That no matter what things turns out ok and that I can do it on my own.

What was your proudest moment?

My proudest moment was being able to call restaurants/museum to organize activities with my friends.

What are your future plans?

I have one year of high school left in France and after that I am going to University in France.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

I joined a gymnastics club because I do gymnastics in France. It was much smaller than ones I am used to in France!

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I think that I learned a lot in this year and I feel very independent after this whole experience. I somehow liked it to have this certain feeling of doing things on your own and I will keep doing the same thing when I am back at home.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned a lot about myself and other people. I find I don't feel the need to be like my friends/ to think like my friends. I learned to stand up for myself.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad? Don't expect too much from this experience. Try to put yourself out there and don't be scared of what people think of you.

What was your proudest moment?

My proudest moment was when I received academics awards for the first term. We had an athletic and an academic prize ceremony!

What are your future plans?

I have two more years of high school in Germany left. After that I want to go to university but I am not sure what I want to study yet.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

I joined the Basketball and Tennis Team. It was my first time playing those sports and I really enjoyed it!

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I grew a lot as a person and got more independent.

Did you go to a Boarding School? What was it like to live on campus?

I really enjoyed it and had a great time. Our dorms were really big and I shared my dorm with another girl. My school is pretty small but this is definitely my second home. I will miss everyone a lot.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

A lot. I will remember all the amazing people I met and I grew a lot as a person.

What was your proudest moment?

I have made loads of friends I have improved my English a lot and I have become more independent.

What are your future plans?

I hope I will be able to study Medicine and I would love to study abroad again during college.

I have started going to the gym with other students frome my school and I have also joined the school choir during Christmas time.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I will take so many things from this experience, as I feel it taught me loads of stuff I couldn't have learned if I had stayed in Italy. This has been the best year of my life.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I have learned to appreciate little things, like a simple walk or chat with a friend, and I have also become more confident in everything I do.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

I would just say to them to have fun and enjoy every day, every hour, every activity and experience.

What was your proudest moment?

My proudest moment was becoming SEC champion in two events during swim season, but most importantly I'm very glad I got to spend those times with my swim team and with the people that now are essential to me.

What are your future plans?

I'm planning on doing my last year of high school in Italy and then go to university. I'm still thinking about going to college in the USA, which would really be a dream.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

I joined the swim team (both school team and YMCA) , I was in a swim team in Italy too but here I really learned how a sport is not only an effort but also something that can help you grow.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

That wherever I am, if I'm not happy and comfortable with myself, changing places doesn't change my emotions.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

I love my host family, I had to change it and I'm so glad I did. They really treat me like I'm one of the family.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I will take with me that you only live once. I think that this experience really helped me becoming more mature and realizing when something happens to you, you think it's the end of the world, it is not, life goes on and so should you. Don't give up.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

My advice is just take chances, don't be scared because in the future you will regret not doing it.

My independence, being able to manage money, being proud of where I am from and more knowledge of other countries' culture.

My favorite memory was going to their wedding.

I learned that I am enough and that i always find a way to make it.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable, but at the same time push your limits; don't be scared to talk with people or join teams, you are gonna regret not doing it at the end.

My proudest moment was receiving the all around player award for my basketball team.

My future plans are to finish my high school in Italy, go to college and take a master degree in the USA.

I joined Cross Country and Basketball.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned that I just need friends around me to adapt to a new world and be happy.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

My favorite memory with my Host Family was going out for dinner to a pizza place and then to a Boston Celtics game.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

The language is probably the most important thing that I will take from this year, I will take all the new experiences and memories that I made. I'll also take the feeling of freedom and independence.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Try everything, go outside your comfort zone and don't be afraid.

What was your proudest moment?

I am really proud to have received the President's Award, since when I came to the USA, I couldn't understand English very well. I thought I would never be able to speak it fluently, and now it feels natural.

What are your future plans?

When I go back home I'm planning to attend the last year of high school and graduating again. Later on. I would like to go to medical school to become a pediatrician.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

I joined track and it was really challenging, at the beginning I though I would quit, but I'm really glad I didn't. I met a lot of new people, I became stronger and I am planning on continuing running in the future.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

This experience made me evolve a lot as a person and I learned to stand up for myself, being more independent and to stop chasing perfection. Sometimes we get to experience rough times, but they are important in order to value and enjoy the good ones. I learned that some battles are not worth it and the importance of being patient. I realized the value of a family, and how much I love to learn new things.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

I changed my host family and my local coordinator Leah was really supportive and helped me a lot throughout the process. My host family welcomed me and made me feel like I've always been part of their family. I really enjoyed the trip in Chicago that we did together, but also when we are at home we do a lot of fun things together and I love them.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

This experience taught me the worthiness of time and to value my ideas. I also learned that it's not necessary trying to be liked by everybody. When I left I was really nervous and I didn't know what to expect, now I'm in the same position but I'm confident. Life is always changing, that's unavoidable, but you can smile thinking to the good memories and be excited for what's about to happen. I also realized that if you don't like something you can have an active role in changing it.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

I would tell them that a lot of things are not gonna be as they expect, and that's fine. That are gonna live some of the best moments of their life, but at the same time they will have times where they miss home. Always keep going, say what you think, ask questions and do the most you can. You are stronger than you think and it's worth the effort.

It will be forever an important part of my life. I learned that we have to be brave to leave everyone and start a new life..but just believing in yourself you can go wherever you want.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Enjoy every single moment. Both the good and bad ones. Enjoy and have fun. Don't be worried to start something new and talk if you have any problems, do everything that is possible to live this amazing experience in the best way. You will arrive at the end realizing that will be the best experience you will ever had.

My proudest moment is receiving an award for my school year in the USA.

What are your future plans?

My future plan is going to American university such as UCLA or UCBerkeley to study architecture. After spending one year studying abroad in America, I just realized how much I love to study here. Not only did it broaden my horizon, but it also pushed me to become more mature and independent.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I have learned that I can easily adapt to different environment. Living in a such a diverse and energetic American society has turned me into a proactive and sociable person that I have never been before. As I said before, I slowly became more independent, open-minded and street-wise after facing different challenges.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

They really tried to show me American lifestyle, culture, customs, cuisine and also let me explore different places in LA. There are times when I missed home really bad, or I could not get used to the food and the habits of the family, communication makes things easier. My favorite memories with my host fam are when I played pickle-ball, king chess with my host dad, we traveled together and so many more memories!

My local coordinator helped me a lot, she gives me good advice when it comes to paperwork or host family issues. Every month, I must send her a photo of myself, a snapshot of my grades and the monthly report of how everything is going.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

Studying abroad really changed my life! Learning different cultures, customs helped open my heart. Learning to make plans, create specific goals and strive to achieve them made me great at time management. Reaching out when there are questions, making more friends, taking part in extracurricular activities also encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. All of these precious experiences rounded out my skill set for the college journey and my own life. I will always remember every moment I took a step out of my comfort zone. I once was shy and anxious about everything, but now I am not anymore. I have become a better version of myself.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

If you do have financial condition, good educational performances, and you are determined to learn a different language and culture, then why not study abroad? As long as you are physically and mentally prepared for everything, you will do great! Whenever there is an issue about schools, insurance, scholarship, etc., don't be afraid to reach out for answers, ask anything to the agency, the school counselors, the host family and the local coordinator.

Talk with everybody don't be shy, play sports and live in the best way you can.

I really went out of my comfort zone by doing basketball but I had lots of fun and the team was really nice.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned that I was capable of adapting in a new environment.

Did you go to a Boarding School? What was it like to live on campus?

I loved being on that boarding school. The campus is really nice and the school is not too big so everyone knows everyone. The wna community is amazing.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

It made me discover what I didn't want to do in the future and that I also have many more possibilities than what I thought I had. It was also the best experience I had so far in my life. I will never regret doing this year abroad.

I was already registered in a university in France before leaving for the USA.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Don't hesitate, it is going to be incredible. It might be hard at some points but this is a life experience that will give you so much. Time flies so make the most of every moment.

My proudest moment was when I was really me here. Also when I realized I am finally a part of my host family I'm the big sister!

What are your future plans?

My future plans are to go back to France and start to work and maybe later come back to the USA.

It's very hard to choose one favorite memory with my host family but I think when we went to Hawaii- that was a amazing trip.

My English is much better since I've been here. You learn to live alone and build yourself independently.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Just do it! It can be scary sometimes but if it is your dream, go for it!

It was awesome being able to live with friends and faculty on campus. It makes it easier to create a stronger bond with them, a community.

I will take the values my school taught me, which a few are integrity, community, and peace.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Be open minded and try to do things you would not do because you might end up liking them. Without trying something, you will not know if you like it or not.

What was your proudest moment?

I can't pick one, there were so many moments where I was proud, my improvements in English definitely made me proud, it also made me very proud that I learned to know myself better, know my weaknesses and how overcome them.

What are your future plans?

Next year I will have another year of school in Italy, then I would like to go to the University of Medicine, and probably once I graduate I will go back to America.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

I practiced ice skating, golf and gym outside of the school.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned to overcome the bad times, I learned how to enjoy the little things, and above all I learned that in life there is always something to learn and there are so many people to love.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

My host family has now become my family, I will never stop being grateful for them, I had so many happy moments so even here I can't choose one. Surely they made my dreams come true, and for this I will always love them. One of the best moments was the cruise to the bahamas we had a lot of fun. My local coordinator was excellent, she was able to help me in times of difficulty.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

The experience changed me internally, it made me grow it made me learn to accept sides of myself that I didn't accept, it made me appreciate people and little things much more, good future so I'll look at anything with different eyes.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

My advice would be to not expect anything. It will never be what you think, live in the moment and try anything, you won't regret it.

Now I know myself and I know what I want in my life I'm really happy in my life now.

My favorite memory was our trip in the north of Ireland.

I can be patient and now I know that I don't have to take care of the problems of everyone.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Try to be sociable because they are a lot of good people everywhere in the world and be respectful with everyone because they are going to give this respect back.

My proudest moment was when I got to play on the winners bracket in a tennis varsity tournament and I got a Varsity Letter.

My future plans are to continue with school and then go to university.

I joined Soccer and Tennis. I learned a lot because it was my first time doing both.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned that I love to try new things, especially sports.

I tried out for Beach Volleyball which I had only played in school before. I also tried Cross Country which was really hard in the hot temperatures. I then stuck with Tennis which I have played before.

I discovered that I love photography. Since my high school has a wide range of creative subjects, it was one of them. I definitely want to continue back home.

My family was from Pakistan which is not what I expected but it was interesting. It was fun to experience their culture and wear their traditional clothes. I mean how often do you get the chance to go to a pakistani wedding?! And one thing I can say now is that I am used to spicy food!

I did my 11th grade in the USA at the Agoura Highschool. When I go back to Germany I have 2 more years of school to get my diploma we get at the end of our school career in Germany. After my last 2 years of High School in Germany I want to do a gap year and travel for 1 year. What I do after that? I don't really know. I will probably start studying something somewhere.

I joined cheer at the Agoura Highschool. It was a totally new experience for me. I had a lot of fun. Learning the cheers and dances for halftime shows was amazing.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned many different things about my self while studying abroad! For example, how much I enjoy having my own time and doing things by myself. Another thing I learned is how close I can get to people, especially my host family in such little time. I feel like home being surrounded by them.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

One of my favorite memories with my host family is going skiing. Another favorite memory is our visit to the Santa Barbara zoo with my 3 little host siblings. In addition to that I loved cooking with my host family. We cooked every night and I will never forget it it was amazing and we had so much fun together. Also Christmas was amazing. It was different but a great experience same as New Year's Eve.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

This year developed me as a person in many different ways. I got really independent more than I was before. I know how to figure stuff out in difficult situations. I learned that if I want something I will work as hard as it seems I can make it work. I learned that I have to be patient and let things go and it will work out or happens the way it is supposed to.

I played varsity for both soccer and flag football. I already knew I was going to play soccer before I got here, but I joined flag football to stay active and to meet new friends. I'm so glad I did both of them and doing a sport here was just amazing!

I learned that I can rely on myself more and that I won't accomplish anything without change.

When I ate with my host family and the smallest kid wanted to sit next to me and asked me to help me- that was so sweet or when I would come back from my gymnastics competition and everyone congratulated me. I loved when I would speak until midnight with my Irish host sisters. All trips with my locals where a lot of fun too.

What was your proudest moment?

Throughout my year abroad, I overcame my shyness and became a better person overall. I learned so much about myself and others. I am proud of the huge progress I made in terms of social skills and my studies will definitely help me in the future.

I still have two years of high school left in my home country. I am considering taking a gap year after I graduate to figure out what I want to do next.

I joined green club and theater club (I was part of the costumes crew!). I was also part of the track and field team. I ran mid distance and it was so much fun!

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned a a lot of things about myself this year. My mindset changed and I feel a lot more mature. I feel more independent and I realized that I could have a real impact on people. I learned that I am capable of more than I think, I just have to believe in myself.

I lived with a host family that I absolutely love. They helped me so much with everything and introduced me to a lot of people. If I had to choose my favorite memory it would be when over spring break we went to Texas and had so much fun in the car. I felt like I was part of the family. My host mom and my host sister became such important parts of life. I hope I will keep in touch with them for my whole life.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

It is really important to make the first move to meet people. Just walk up to them and introduce yourself. Everybody already has their own life there and you can easily feel lonely if you expect others to talk to you. Also getting involved in clubs and especially sports is a super good and easy way to meet new people!

What will you take from this experience into the future?

All the social skills that I learned will be helpful in the future. I am definitely way more happy now than I was before and I think it is also caused by my newly gained maturity. I will remember how I overcame my shyness and other issues to remind myself that if I did it once, I can keep doing it.

However, America made me discover a passion for aviation, I am also thinking about going to the Air Force in Italy and studying something at the same time. I am pretty sure I will study in Italy for most of university, but I would love to come here if it is possible, to do another exchange year in college.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

I joined volleyball, chess, and track and field. I played volleyball and did track also in Italy, but I have never done competitive chess before. I definitely love sports in the USA: there is a very big spirit and participating in the games, especially volleyball, or even watching them, was so fun. I really like the energy that the people have here and the sportsmanship of the team. I was able to win MVP in volleyball and chess because I liked them so much, I put a lot of passion into them. My favorite sport though was track, where I had the opportunity to go to state. I really love it and I will keep doing it in Italy.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned how to solve problems on my own, without asking my family. I learned how to approach people in a better way and I learned how to be more independent. The USA also taught me to put a lot of effort into something, if I really care about it and if I want to become someone in that area.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

My favorite memory with my host family is Thanksgiving. My host parents have a big family, and all of them came for Thanksgiving. We stayed together, we talked a lot, we played a lot and, since my host family is Mexican, we all made tamales together. It was very interesting and funny, I loved it. They helped me to have a real local experience by teaching me how to cook typical food, they brought me to eat out in typical fast food I had never tried before, and they took me to a lot of places in Arizona to show me the landscape, nature, ... My local coordinator also helped me a lot, I had some problems during the year and she was always there to help me. I am very glad I had her.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I became way more determined in what I do, and I think this will affect me in a positive way. I will have a beautiful memory of this experience forever, I will never forget all the people I met here. I am sad this is ending. When I came here, and especially in the first months, it was hard! But this exchange year was the best year of my life. Now I can tell you that it was definitely the best year of my life. I will remember all the American people I found here, their energy, their spirit, and their happiness.

I joined Cheerleading. It was the first time for me, it's been amazing. I do artistic gymnastics in Italy but cheer is different, I've had the chance to learn some stunts, practice my tumbling and dance.

I learned that I can face whatever happens in my life, that I can do many things even alone and that people who love me will always care for me, no matter what I decide to do and the situations in our lives.

I think my favorite memory with my host family was when we were driving go-karts together, and also my birthday party. My host family has always tried to include me in their family/ friends meetings, has always checked on me and how I was feeling, has always said yes to many of the things that could make me happy. My local coordinator has checked on me every month, she has always been super kind and she has been there to help me with any questions I had.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

The key to enjoying this experience is having the right attitude: if you wake up everyday trying to make the best out of it, smiling and ready to discover your new life, this will probably be the most enriching and exciting period you have ever lived. If you have already applied and are about to leave for your exchange: it is okay to feel nervous and anxious and even frightened, you will get used to everything and enjoy it. Just give yourself some time and trust the process. You got this! :)

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I will definitely try to take the attitude with which I faced this experience back to Italy, because I know that I have grown a lot as a person in many ways. I hope I will remember everything from living here, even the basic days, since my life in Italy is completely different and these months have been the least stressful and probably some of the richest of my life. If you can go study abroad, don't miss your chance! It's a unique experience and even if it's scary, it's something you will remember all your life with all the new things you will discover and the people you will meet. If you don't make friends immediately, it's normal, it cna take time but join some teams or clubs because it really helps you meet new people. Don't compare or expect something from other people's experience because they will not be the same at all.

I was supposed to go to a day school but I'm glad that I actually ended up at a Boarding School. I was sad at first to not have the chance to experience the "traditional" prom and everything, but when I actually started thinking about it, the boading school fit better with me and I would never change to go to a day school.

I did cheer and had a lot of experience from my home country. High school cheer is very different from cheer in Norway because we don't cheer at games in Norway. It was very fun to experience spirit line cheer because I was only familiar with competitive cheerleading.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I have grown as a person and I'm more independent now. I have learned to focus on the positive things both in life but also in people instead of thinking about everything that are negative. I believe that is very important for a successful exchange year because it's going to be different than your home country which means its going to be sometimes good and sometimes not so good.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

My Host Family is amazing. They met me at the airport with a cute poster my host sister made. They have been taking me many places! My family from Norway have also been here to visit. They have stayed in my room at my host familys house and we have all traveled together. I feel like we are a big family and I am so glad that my family is so close with my host family. I haven't needed my coordinator but she's amazing and so kind!

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Focus on the postive things because it's going to be different than what you know from your home country! It's not going to be the same living in your host family as your own family. There are going to be things you get annoyed over in your host family even if you have a very close relationship. You just have to learn to live with it. Always say yes when someone asks you if you want to hang out, even if it's something you wouldn't normally do.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I'll take everything I learned from this year with me like focusing on the positive instead of the negative things in life. I will also remember all the amazing people I have met. My host family and friends have been so supportive and I knew I could talk with them if I had any problems. I'm so thankful for everyone! I will also remember all the events and traveling like prom, homecoming, cheering at football games, and so much more! I feel like I have grown as a person!

One of my proudest moments was being able to throw a birthday party and having my new friends show up after being in the USA for only a month! I'd also say one of my biggest achievements was making my school's cheer team.

What are your future plans?

I'm graduating high school this year so I plan to go to university in my home country afterwards. I'm going to study medicine at one of the best universities in my city. However, I plan on doing my residency in the U.S.

I was part of my school's cheer team. We don't have cheerleading where I live so it was a dream of mine to experience this in America. It definitely felt like a movie :) Amongst other things, I've learned that through strength, resilience and teamwork we can get through anything.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I discovered who I really am while in America. I realized that I can be independent and can actually do anything I put my mind to and that I'm stronger than I thought.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

I lived with a Host Family that I can definitely call my family now. They've welcomed me and made me feel at home since day one. We went on amazing road trips, tried different food, watched American movies, visited cool places... anything that was new to me, we did it all! My favorite memory with them was our trip to Las Vegas and when we went camping (my first time camping).

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

You have to jump head-first into this experience! Don't be afraid to try new things, they might end up being your best memories! Talk to everyone. You never know, they might turn out to be your best friend later on. It's okay to make mistakes, nobody is perfect and you're there to learn. Most of all, enjoy every little moment- because I promise you it goes by so fast.

This experience changed my life. What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

Spending nine months here, I really learned a lot about myself, but the most important is that I am stronger than I thought. One or two years ago I would never thought I would get here, and instead I am, and I'm really proud of myself. Then I learned how someone can be so important in your life, and if you think they are not for you, that means you're right, and you can end that. And finally I learned not to underestimate myself, because I proved myself very much in this path.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I believe that with me I will be able to carry a huge cultural baggage, full of experiences, joys, disappointments, knowledge, because this experience has given me so much. I never thought it would make me understand so many things, but all that I have known and learned I will always take with me.

I would just say try to live the experience to the fullest, remind you that locals already have their own lives so don't be disappointed if you don't get included in their groups but still be nice to everyone. Visit everything you can because you may not have the opportunity to do so after.

I really enjoyed my Birthday Party in the end of December that I celebrated with my lovely host family. I also had friends over, who made me a cake and then we all had dinner together where we laughed and talked. After we watched a movie together and played cards. I think that was one of the best experiences here in Ireland .

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learnt how to organize things on my own and how to be more independent in general. I also learnt what certain things I appreciate about home and which ones I got to know herethat are better than at home. I would say that after that year I know what I like and what I don't and can decide things more easily.

I feel very independent after this whole experience. I somehow liked it to have this certain feeling of doing things on your own and I will keep doing the same thing when I am back at home.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

It might be very hard in the beginning of your exchange year and you will struggle with homesickness or the feeling of loneliness. But as the time passes you will develop friendships and won't think about home too often. Hard times are a part of your exchange year and they will make you grow. This is once in a life experience so try to do as many things as possible. Meet friends, travel to different cities have funny evenings with your Host Familyall these moments will make your stay so much worthier so go out and do something. At the end of the year and you will think oh how fast did this time go by.

I learned so many things about myself. I didn't know I could do everything I have been doing here. I noticed that my family in my country was very important. I learned that I was able to learn another language despite it not being easy at all!

At the beginning of the journey, I couldn't speak English at all, but they were still here for me and they tried to help me. My host mom is Mexican, therefore I tried Mexican food, it was new to me because where I live I don't have Mexican food. We have gone in Hawaii with them, it was amazing. I think it was my favorite memory. My Local Coordinator was here for me when I needed, she always replied to me by message and she always asked if I was good.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

It's a great experience and perhaps you will miss your family and friends but it's for a good reason. If you don't speak English at all and you don't understand and you are worried about it, just don't worry because it will get better.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I learned to live far away from my family, this experience was very important to me, speaking and being able to write and understand English will help me for my studies and for my general life. Now I know a new culture and I learned about this culture. At the beginningI felt very sad everyday because I was far away from my family and friends and I couldn't understand the language but after a couple of months I felt more confident with the language and I started to enjoy the experience and I'm now sad to leave my Host Family.

One of the proudest moments for me was at the end of my cheerleading season when I received the awards for being the most spirited, having perfect attendance, receiving the academic all-conference awards. I joined the cheerleading team for my basketball season. It was my first time playing this sport and I loved it! What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

My advice would be you have to do it and enjoy it to the fullest because a year may seem long but in reality it goes by too fast. It may seem scary at times but if you want to do something, a sport, an activity, do it. You won't regret it. Don't compare your experience to other exchange studnts, everyone has a different experience.

I'm planning to go to a Community College online, in order to get enough credit to then transfer to a Chiropractic school in SoCal. This exchange year changed my plans for the future, and definitely in a good way.

Definitely the Jazz Festival of Nantwich, we had a great time. The night at the Trafford Centre with my local coordinator was amazing.

What was your proudest moment?

My friends and I painted the window in the post office for Christmas and didn't look half bad. I also built a little drawer in wood work, with just a little amount of knowledge in how to do it. Being one of the main characters in the school musical also made me very proud and the fact I was asked to sew some costumes for the show.

What are your future plans?

I want to start an apprenticeship as a carpenter in Hannover the capital of the state Lower Saxony in Germany. But before that I want to finish school.

Which sports teams and/or extracurriculars did you join?

I started Tagrugby in September, we only had about three training sessions, but it was still very cool. It's nice to try something new and the people were very kind.

Did you live with a Host Family? If so, what was your favorite memory with them?

My favourite moment with my host family was shopping in Kilkenny. It was so much fun and we had a great time. My local coordinator always organised cool trips and was just there if I needed anything.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

That even when I was confronted with a difficult situation, I managed to get through so when I am in a difficult situation it is not as bad as you might think and you can conquer all the challenges life gives you.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I am capable of more than the eye can see and I will believe more in myself. I now can do a lot of things alone, that I was afraid of before. I grew a lot in these five months away from home and learned a lot and not just about me, but about so many different things.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Don't have too high expectations even though it might be difficult with all the cool things you see on social media. If you want to do something I wouldn't necessarily rely on the host family, since the might have their own plans, but you can go out with your friends and plan the trip in your own.

What was your proudest moment?

My proudest moment was when I was graduated and did the ceremony. Also, during all the basketball moments- I was so happy to join the basketball team.

What are your future plans?

For the future, I will go back in France in medical school to be a surgeon and more precisely a cardiothoracic surgeon.

I played Basketball because it was my goal during this year.

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

I learned a lot, this experience taught me a lot about being independent and also that I really want to study medicine.

My favorite moment with my Host Family was when we went to California and also did Halloween with them at the farm.

What will you take from this experience into the future?

I learned a lot about American culture and also I improved my English and got my diploma. So if I want to go back for studying or even work in America, I already know the country and people.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Just don't think and live your experience. Play every sport that you want, join the team and don't give up. You will have hard mmoents but it's only one year so enjoy every moment.

Cry when you want to. It is really hard but it is worth it. Try to get friend from the beginning or it will be harder. The last part is the best and the hardest at the same time.

What was your proudest moment?

My proudest moments are being a part of an A+ high school that provided me with a top-level education and a supportive community. It was an honor to be able to pursue my passion for dance by being a part of the school's dance team. The countless hours of practice, the adrenaline rush from performing on stage, and the lifelong friends of my team. Those memories are so precious and have made me who I am today. I also took great pride in having volunteered in the cafeteria of a summer camp, where I had the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young campers by serving them food and fostering a welcoming environment was truly rewarding, and it taught me the value of compassion and helping others.

What are your future plans?

Once this fantastic year wraps up, I'm super excited to enroll in an international bilingual high school where I'll be able to pursue both my French and USA diplomas simultaneously. It's an amazing opportunity that I can't wait to be a part of!

I joined the Dance Team and it has been an incredible journey filled with growth, challenges, and unforgettable experiences. Joining the dance team has been one of the best decisions I've ever made!

What did you learn about yourself while studying abroad?

Being in a new environment and immersing myself in a different culture allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of myself. I learned that I am adaptable and capable of embracing new challenges and unfamiliar situations. I discovered strengths I didn't know I had, such as resilience and independence. Studying abroad also helped me develop a greater appreciation for diversity and broadened my perspective on the world.

What advice would you give future students who are thinking of studying abroad?

Don't forget that this is a rare chance that you have- so enjoy, be open minded, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, be prepared to make decisions and be independent; it is the best moment to discover and enjoy yourself! Participate in the life of your school, your host family, and your city. Build connections and friendships that you will keep forever.

During my time abroad, I ended up changing host families halfway through the year. Despite the unexpected change, it turned out to be a valuable and transformative experience that taught me important lessons. Among the many memories I made with my host family, the most cherished ones revolve around the incredible trips we took together. One of the highlights was visiting the magical world of Disney at Disney World, an experience that I will never forget!
