The main function of the Gujrat secondary and higher secondary board of education is the preparation of syllabus for the schools. The duties of recognizing the new schools, the performance of the schools and inspection of the various schools that is associated with the board. Besides all that GSEB conducts two main exams every year that are secondary school certificate (SSC) for the 10th standard students and for 12th standard HSC exam that refers to the higher secondary education in the state. The result of the examinations is announced in the June month. The textbooks for class IX and XI have been given for printing and the task is expected to be completed by the beginning of the next academic year. "The larger aim of adopting the syllabus of the central board is to ensure that the students of the state are able to compete in the all India entrance exams for medical and engineering colleges namely Pre-Medical Test ( PMT) and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) respectively on a level playing field. If the syllabus is uniform, they will be able to fare better," said Adhia. This move is part of the over all reforms undertaken by the GSHSEB. This year, exams of two papers of SSC board have been conducted by the school authorities. Moreover, like the central board, the GSHSEB is allowing 30 more minutes to the students to answer their papers and have a paper which has more objective type questions. AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) will introduce semester system in class IX and XI (science) from academic year 2011-12. Significantly, the board has decided to adopt the syllabus of CBSE as it is for math and science subjects from class IX and XII. GSHSEB chairman Hasmukh Adhia said that the semester system will be introduced in class IX and XI (science) as part of which the syllabus is being changed.
