West Bengal Education Board West Bengal Education Board The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education is the West Bengal state government administered autonomous examining authority for the Standard 10 examination (or secondary school level examination) of West Bengal, India. The examination for the 10th standard is called the Madhyamik Pariksha or secondary examination. The Madhyamik examination is conducted annually and simultaneously all over the state of West Bengal and also in affiliates of the board located outside West Bengal, elsewhere in India. More than 10,50,000 examinees take the exam each year. West Bengal Board of Secondary Education was constituted under the West Bengal Secondary Education Act of 1950 to improve the quality of education and conduct examinations. The board, which was reconstituted in the year 1964, works as an autonomous body from its head office Kolkata and successfully administering 10238 numbers of schools which also includes the affiliated schools. The objectives of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education are manifold. However, it primarily focuses on improving the quality of education by meeting the changing challenges in the education system. The board also creates and publish text books for the students of various levels by maintaining the standard and quality. Apart from the regular subjects, the panel of experts also tries to introduce new subjects to meet the challenges in the contemporary education system.
