Edward Picardi
Edward Joseph Silvio Picardi, MD, FACS, DABS, boasts over thirty years of extensive experience as a general surgeon. His career encompassed trauma surgery, advanced laparoscopic procedures, and volunteer medical missions across various states and countries. His unwavering commitment to patient care, advocacy for life causes, and dedication to serving both his local community and underserved populations internationally have established him as a respected figure in his field. Born on February 15, 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Edward Picardi's interest in medicine began early, leading him to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated with honors in 1979 and continued his medical journey at Hahnemann University, earning a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 1983. Following medical school, he commenced his surgical training at Wright-State University while also stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. From June 1983 to June 1989, he completed his residency, gaining extensive experience in various surgical techniques and procedures. In July 1989, he was assigned as a staff surgeon at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, serving as a Major in the United States Air Force Medical Corps during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Transitioning to civilian life in 1992, he established a private practice in Rapid City, South Dakota. Over the next two decades, he became one of the region's leading general surgeons. His excellence was recognized in 2001 when he received the Outstanding Surgeon Award from the South Dakota Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He also served as the President of this chapter from 1999 to 2000. He played a crucial role in developing the statewide trauma system, ensuring access to high-quality emergency care for South Dakota residents.
