Hello there!

My name is Evple (pronounced “eeple”), and I am super excited to be Sammamish’s Key Club President. I have planned a lot of things for this year, from volunteering events to fundraising ideas. So far we already had our first fundraiser for KCCP, and although we did not raise a lot of money, it is still a way to get the year started. Summer is just around the corner, and I have lots of things planned! Even though school will not be over soon (finally), Key Club never stops ((‘:

So hopefully I can see you guys at volunteering events, DCMs and Seattle Rally!! Evple Peng

Can you believe it’s only been 2 months since DCON?! Neither can I!! DCON was a blast and we’re still suffering from PDD. But that didn’t stop Sammamish from doing what they love most…SERVICE. Since DCON in April, the fire in our hearts has been ignited and we’ve been serving our school, community, and division. I am so proud of every member at Sammamish for their dedication and commitment to Key Club this year. Despite our newly chartered Key Club at Sammamish a couple years ago, we have bounced back and we’re ready for any forces that come our way! I cannot wait for what our Key Club has in store. I know this year will make it in history! For those who have not had the chance of meeting me, I am Lyndsay Kirinhakone and I will be serving as Sammamish’s Bulletin Editor for the 2017-2018 school year. I am so thrilled for the new year because Division 28 is gaining tons of new members. We’re going to knock your socks off with our spirit and passion to serve! In Love and Service, Lyndsay Kirinhakone Sammamish Bulletin Editor

April Recap

I am so proud of Evple Peng and Emanuel Cha for earning an award at the April DCM Banquet. Evple has been a fantastic vice president during her term this past year. Evple will be serving as our current President of Key Club at Sammamish. Emanuel(aka Yang) has been an awesome member this past year. His presence is truly motivating, he does not hesitate to help those around him. If you haven’t met him already, he is outgoing and loves to dedicate his time solely to Key Club. I expect great things as they both enter their Senior year soon, don’t forget about us! “I’m thankful for receiving the outstanding member award. It has been an honor to be serving Key Club. Throughout every DCM and service event that I’ve attended, I always felt the urge to help out. I’m really looking forward to future events!” - Emanuel Cha

“Skate to Cure was a really fun event for me because it was where I got to meet a lot of new friends from other divisions! - Edward Chien

May Recap

This had to be the best volunteer event ever! The volunteers had a great time at the UW Night Market. The available positions we could choose from were food vending, TSA booth, photography/videography, and running around as Bobo, The Bubble Tea! This event was unforgettable, I highly recommend going next year! We may have not met Andrew Garcia, but the smell of stinky tofu was well worth it!

Page 12

The Highland Games is an annual event for our disabled community to compete and win ribbons for each event they choose to participate in. I personally am touched by this event because I love to watch how each participant reacts to when they finish and when they receive a ribbon. The Highland Games’ motto is “Everyone is a winner.” As a volunteer we get placed in various locations on the field. Our jobs were to time races, measure distances for throwing objects or how far they jump in the sand pit. The Highland Games was a popular event for volunteers this year. I couldn’t be more proud of our success and how happy we made everyone there. I also highly recommend this event because their work is truly amazing and the tasks were given are easy to accomplish.

Page 13

On Memorial Day, Sammamish Key Club and Jubilee Reach came together. There was a silent auction going on and we got to listen to a local writer talk about his book, Courage. We had the chance to meet some other Kiwanians and mingle with others in our community. At this event we hosted a Miracle Minute and fundraised $41.18 for our district project, KCCP!

Page 14

May DCM was packed!!! I’ve never seen so much Key Clubbers gathered into a park before! It was a great weather to do service projects, meet other Key Clubbers and have a picnic! There was so much happening, how could you ever get bored?! Let us not forget the spirit battle that took place! Pop sockets, Fannie packs, lanyards, bracelets, ShareTea vouchers‌ITEMS EVERYWHERE WERE BEING SOLD! What a perfect afternoon to mingle and pie our divisional board!

Hi D28!

I’m Edward Chien, Sammamish’s Membership Growth Chair! This year, Sammamish has seen a big growth in our active membership within the club and it will be my job to further increase this number and also get more members to join the club! I believe that our club can accomplish this by further advertising Key Club, so other people within our school know what it is. My freshman year, I hadn’t even heard of Key Club, and what people do in Key Club (do they make keys or something?). I think by getting the word out about what a great organization Key Club is, we can really get more people to join and be involved in Sammamish’s Key Club. We can get more people to participate in service events if they realize how much fun you can have, hanging out with your friends, while also helping out your community, and getting those hours in. I also believe we can increase membership and active membership in the club by personally reaching out to people to encourage them to do service projects and attend Key Club events. This is what has helped me be more involved in Key Club the most, other people asking me to come to their events and reaching out to me (you know who you are). Hopefully Sammamish can win the membership growth award at DCON next year!! In love and service, Edward Chien SHS Membership Growth Chair
