Career Exploration Teacher Guide Introduction

eDynamic Learning’s 1-day Career Exploration Kit is designed to give you everything you need to get your students started on their career exploration journey. This comprehensive kit will give students the opportunity to survey their interests, identify careers and pathways that align with their skill sets, access assets to explore identified careers, and gain insight into future courses they should register for that align with their identified pathways. It will also provide insight to help your school select courses and pathways you may want to offer students in the future.

Implementation Options This Career Explorations Kit was flexibly designed to meet a variety of implementation scenarios and organizational formats.

Audience: Single classroom, whole grade level, entire school Delivery: in-class work, a homework assignment, as a Flipped Classroom activity, as a Station-Rotation experience, broken out as bell work Organization: individual work, pairs or small groups based on career or pathway, whole-class synchronous exploration Timeframe: Completed in its entirety as a 1-day career explorations event or broken into focused tasks throughout a week

After you’ve given students time to listen to a variety of professionals, ask them to share some observations. Start the dialog so other students can learn more about a variety of professions featured on the website. This can be done as a whole class, in small groups, or as partners.

Have students select the career they are most drawn to based on the work they have already done.

If time permits, allow students to dive deeper into career exploration using the Profession Profile Project lesson template.

Have students present to the class. Students can share the career or pathway they identified with most, an overview of what a professional in that field does, what they liked about that career, and why they feel their skill set would be a good match for the profession.

Have students create their own short-style video using the research they have done and describe what they like most and least about their favorite career option.

Have your supplies on hand. Prior to starting your career exploration activities, print off copies of the lessons and bingo sheet to have on hand.

Check your device access. Make sure all students will have access to a device - phone, tablet, or computer- whether they’re completing their career exploration at home or at school. The project can be completed as long as one of these devices is available to the student.

Check student access. If your students will be conducting their career exploration in school, make sure students can access the Career Compass webpage on the eDynamic Learning website from the device they will be using. Sometimes web security at schools can be high and prevent access to websites that are not whitelisted.

Make a plan for audio if students will be participating in the career exploration activities during the school day. If participating as a whole class, be sure the podcast and video audio can be heard through your speakers. If students will be participating individually, make sure students have access to headphones.
