Tree House Center

Merging Shophouses

Crossing: Buffalo Bayou

Deep Ellum

Tree House Center Imagine a neighborhood resiliency center placed in a park location? How would the community react to such a placement? The project challenges such questions and especially the vernacular setting outcome. Placed in a park setting, the program is stripped of only essential elements. From there the playful application of each program is condensed and placed vertically for distance from flood and viewing opportunity. The end result becomes an additional jungle gym to the park, mixing the use of program and park setting during a disaster event and during normal use.

Model Process

Models are shown from arial view to give understanding of site to program layout. Here the study of space and planes is explored. exploring playful and practical

Cafe/dining along three floors for viewing and privacy

Many of the spaces that Vietnam had as result of the shophouse architecture was many floor levels. As a result, what became is many spaces that had an ability for privacy with friends or individually. The architecture of the project is highly inspired by these vernaculars.

The early models became an investigation of prgram size and program seperation: what is service and served.

Going back to the drawing board the true spirit of organization of program and circulation come about.

These parti model became the investiagation of the outlined sketch above. True understanding of context to architecture was achieved as best as possible.
