DESCRIPTION
Written and illustrated by Rose Robbins
This little sister might not use words, but she’s got plenty to say! Narrated through thought bubbles, this energetic book invites readers into the day of a nonverbal girl with autism. She has so much to do—games to play, spaghetti to eat, and a missing stuffed animal to find! Sometimes life can be noisy and overwhelming, but something new is always around the corner. Talking isn’t the only way to make a joke, ask for Grandma’s help, or surprise your brother… Illustrated in bright colors, Talking Is Not My Thing is a joyful portrait of neurodiverse family life. AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR Rose Robbins is the author of Me and My Sister (Eerdmans), a companion to Talking Is Not My Thing. She has a master of arts in children's book illustration from the Cambridge School of Art and was a runner-up for Hachette UK’s Carmelite Prize in 2017. Rose grew up with an autistic brother, an experience that informs and shapes her writing. She serves as an ambassador with Inclusive Minds, an organization that promotes quality representation in children's literature, and she has written and drawn extensively about neurodiversity issues. The Last TIGER Written and illustrated by Petr Horáček
RIGHTS North America English rights only; all other rights Otter-Barry
DESCRIPTION When hunters invade the jungle, all the animals try to hide—except the tiger. He is strong, proud, and powerful; why should he flee like a bird or a monkey? Illustrated in glowing colors, The Last Tiger is a thoughtful fable about the dangers of pride and the value of freedom. AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR Petr Horáček has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Art in Prague. DESCRIPTION On May 27, 1937, over four hundred children sailed for Morelia, Mexico, fleeing the violence of the Spanish Civil War. Home was no longer safe, and Mexico was welcoming refugees by the thousands. Each child packed a suitcase and boarded the Mexique, expecting to return home in a few months. This was just a short trip, an extra-long summer vacation, they thought. But the war did not end in a few months, and the children stayed, waiting and wondering, in Mexico. When the war finally ended, a dictator—the Fascist Francisco Franco—ruled Spain. Home was even more dangerous than before.
KEYWORDS: War, Refugees, History, Mexico, Spain
This moving book invites readers onto the ship with the “children of Morelia,” many of whom never returned to Spain during Franco’s almost forty-year regime. AUTHOR María José Ferrada is a Chilean journalist and writer. She is a recipient of the Academy Award from the Chilean Academy of Language, as well as the Hispanic-American Prize for poetry for children. She currently works as the children’s editor of Chilean Memory, a digital resource center of the National Library of Chile.
