Hanwell’s history

Emerging from the history and tradition of Victorian London, came the vibrance, style and glamour of London’s west that would soon come to typify the area.

Over the space of the next century, these features would give rise to a new generation of artists, musicians, actors and businesses that would help define much of the London’s incredible arts and culture scene.

Locally, in the serene Hanwell, the development’s name has its rootsin the Grand Union Canal–where the flight of seven locks was once the connecting link between London’s industrial waterway and the rest of the UK. Today, it serves its place as a walkway for a beautiful ‘country stroll’ in the city.

Living at The Lock, you’ll not only be surrounded by history upon every street corner–you’ll be inspired to create your own piece of history too.

Actor Charlie Chaplin, musicians Pete Townshend and Dusty Springfield, and founder of Marshall Amps, Jim Marshall, spent their formative years in the area, helping transform it to a desirable creative enclave respected around the world.
