a. Outer border (5) 2 ½” x WOF strips. Subcut (2) 2 ½” x 39 ½” strips from (2) WOF strips. Piece remaining (3) strips and subcut (2) 2 ½” x 43 ½” strips.

Constructing pieced blocks 1. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 3 ½” print rectangle on top of (1) 1” x 3 ½” Background rectangle.

2. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 4 ½” print rectangle on top of (1) 1” x 4 ½” Background rectangle to make a sewn unit. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 2” x 2” Background square. Place square, right sides together, at a corner of sewn unit. Sew on drawn line. Trim ¼” away from sewn line. Open and press to reveal corner triangle. Repeat with another 2” x 2” Background square at the opposite corner of the same sewn unit. Add (2) 2” x 2 ½” Background rectangles to the opposite short sides, as shown.

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 2” x 2” Background square. Place square, right sides together, at a corner of sewn unit. Sew on drawn line. Trim ¼” away from sewn line. Open and press to reveal corner triangle. Repeat with another 2” x 2” Background 3. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 6” print rectangle on top of square at the opposite corner to make a flying (1) 1” x 6” Background rectangle to make a geese unit, as shown. sewn unit. 4. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 7 ½” print rectangle on top of (1) 1” x 7 ½” Background rectangle to make a sew unit. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 2” x 2” Background square. Place square, right sides together, at a corner of sewn unit. Sew on drawn line. Trim ¼” away from sewn line. Open and press to reveal corner triangle. Repeat with another 2” x 2” Background square at the opposite corner of the same sewn unit. Add (2) 1” x 2” Background rectangles to the opposite short sides, as shown.

5. Sew (2) 1 ½” x 4” Background rectangles to the opposite sides of (1) 1 ½” x 1 ½” print square.

6. Sew together steps 1-5 along the long sides to make a tree unit. Add (2) 1” x 8 ½” Background rectangles to the top and bottom to complete (1) pieced block. Block measures 8 ½” x 8 ½” unfinished.

Quilt Top Assembly 1. Refer to quilt image for block placement guide, arrange and sew together (4) pieced blocks to make a pieced row. Make a total of (5) pieced rows. Row 1 is shown below.

2. Sew together (5) pieced rows to complete quilt center.

3. Inner border #1. Sew (2) 1 ½” x 40 ½” Background strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 1 ½” x 34 ½” Background strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center. 4. Inner border #2. Sew (2) 1” x 42 ½” Fabric A strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 1” x 35 ½” Fabric A strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center. 5. Outer border. Sew (2) 2 ½” x 43 ½” Fabric M strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 2 ½” x 39 ½” Fabric M strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center to complete quilt top.


Finishing 1. Layer backing, batting and quilt top. 2. Baste the layers together. Quilt as desired. 3. Bind to complete the quilt.
