Kim’s Cause est. 2014
Kim’s Cause collections are created in honor of Kim Cairns, a long-time EE Schenck sales representative who passed away from pancreatic cancer. The fabric designs are culled from her depression era fabrics she was passionate about collecting. A percentage of the proceeds from fabric sales are donated to the American Cancer Society.
“Kim was bubbly and happy, and customers loved her,” recalls Stan Gray, who was president of Maywood Studio and EE Schenck at the time of Kim’s employment. “During her treatment Kim mentioned that she wanted to gift Maywood Studio her collection of authentic 1930’s fabrics. After she passed, the idea for Kim’s Cause collections was born.”
Maywood Studio continues to honor her memory with the release of Franny’s Flowers, the 7th Kim’s Cause collection, delivering May 2023.

Nicholas Lapp is a multidisciplined design professional and sewist living in Portland, Oregon with his Corgi Elsie. After decades working in events, society weddings, and contemporary interior design on the East Coast, the native Virginian moved west seeking idyllic garden-growing weather. The flowers in his stunning floral collages are gleaned from his garden and houseplants and from specialty nurseries and seasonal farmer’s markets from San Francisco to Seattle.
His design expertise and love of working with fresh flowers segued into the pave collage photographs showcased online and his Instagram @PDXarbiter. Quilting came naturally to him as he began sewing masks for friends during the pandemic. His photo collages caught the eye of Maywood Studio and a fabric collection was born.
