Cutting Instructions:

Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. Strips are cut across the width of fabric WOF (perpendicular to selvedges) unless otherwise stated. All seams are sewn with 1/4” seam unless otherwise stated. Label all pieces. Lengthwise or length of fabric LOF strips are cut parallel to the selvage.

Fabric A:

• Cut panel 34” x 41 1/2” keeping design centered.

Fabric B:

• Cut seven 2 1/2” strips. (Binding)

Fabric C:

• Cut five 2” strips. (Chain Blocks)

Fabric D:

• Cut one 1 1/4” strip; subcut four 1 1/4” x 4 1/4” rectangles and eight 1 1/4” x 2 3/8” rectangles. (Single Note Block)

• Cut one 2 3/4” strip; subcut four 2 3/4” x 3 1/2” rectangles. (Single Note Block)

• Cut one 1 1/2” strip; subcut four 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” rectangles, two 1 1/2” x 3 1/2” rectangles, and two 1” x 3 1/2” rectangle. (Double Note Block)

• Cut one 2 1/2” strip; subcut four 2 1/2” squares. (Double Note Block)

Fabric E:

• Cut one 1 1/4” strip; subcut eight 1 1/4” squares and four 1 1/4” x 2 3/8” rectangles. (Single Note Block)

• Cut one 1 5/8” strip; subcut four 1 5/8” x 2 3/4” rectangles and twelve 1 1/2” squares. (Single Note Block)

• Cut one 4 1/4” strip; subcut four 2 3/8” x 4 1/4” rectangles and four 3 7/8” x 4 1/4” rectangles. (Single Note Block)

• Cut one 1 1/2” strip; subcut two 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” rectangles, twelve 1 1/4” squares, and two 1” x 3 1/2” rectangles. (Double Note Block)

• Cut one 2 1/2” strip; subcut two 2 1/2” squares and two 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” rectangles. (Double Note Block)

• Cut five 2” strips. (Chain Blocks)

• Cut five 3 1/2” strips; subcut forty-eight 3 1/2” squares. (Chain Blocks)

• Cut eleven 1 1/2” strips. Sew strips together end to end with diagonal seams. Trim seams to 1/4” and press open. From this pieced strip, cut two 1 1/2” x 50 1/2” strips; four 1 1/2” x 54 1/2” strips, and two 1 1/2” x 58 1/2” strips. (1st & 3rd Borders)

Fabric F:

• Cut two 1” strips; subcut two 1” x 36 1/2” strips. (Inner Frame – Top/Bottom)

• Cut two 1 3/4” strips; subcut two 1 3/4” x 41 1/2” strips. (Inner Frame – Sides)

• Cut six 1 1/2” strips. Sew strips together end to end with diagonal seams. Trim seams to 1/4” and press open. From this pieced strip, cut two 1 1/2” x 52 1/2” strips and two 1 1/2” x 56 1/2” strips. (2nd Border)

Piecing Instructions:

Single Note Block

1. Mark a diagonal line on the back side of eight 1 1/4” (E) square. With right sides together, place one marked square at the left of one 1 1/4” x 2 3/8” (D) rectangle. Sew on the line. Trim seam to 1/4” and press toward the resulting triangle. Repeat to make four and four reverse units.

Make (4) each = 1 1/4” x 2 3/8” unfinished.

2. Sew two Step 1 units with one 1 1/4” x 2 3/8” (E) rectangle; press. Repeat. Make two and two reverse units.

Make (2) each = 2 3/4” x 2 3/8” unfinished.

3. Sew one 2 3/8” x 4 1/4” (E) rectangle to the bottom of each unit from Step 2; press. Make two and two reverse units.

Make (2) each = 2 3/8” x 6 1/2” unfinished.

4. Sew one 1 1/4” x 4 1/4” (D) rectangle to one side of one 3 7/8” x 4 1/4” (E) rectangle; press. Repeat. Make two and two reverse units.

5. Draw a diagonal line on the back side of twelve 1 1/2” (E) squares. With right sides together, place one marked square on the lower left corner of one 2 3/4” x 3 1/2” (D) rectangle. Sew on the line. Trim seam to 1/4” and press toward the resulting triangle. Repeat for upper and lower right corners of the (D) rectangle. Repeat to make two units. Repeat to make two reverse units.

Make (2) each = 2 3/4” x 3 1/2” unfinished.

6. Sew one 1 5/8” x 2 3/4” (E) rectangle to the right (left) of each Step 5 unit; press. Make two and two reverse units.

Make (2) of each = 2 3/4” x 4 5/8” unfinished.

7. Sew one Step 4 unit to the top of one Step 6 unit; press. Repeat. Repeat to make two reverse units.

Make (2) each = 4 5/8” x 6 1/2” unfinished.

8. Sew one Step 3 unit to one Step 7 unit; press. Repeat to complete two blocks. Repeat to make two reverse blocks.

Make (2) each = 6 1/2” x 6 1/2” unfinished.

Double Note Block

1. Sew one 1 1/2” x 3 1/2” (D) rectangle and one 1” x 3 1/2” (D) rectangle to opposite sides of one 1” x 3 1/2” (E) rectangle; press. Repeat. Sew one 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” (E) rectangle to the bottom of both units.

Make (2) = 3 1/2” x 4 1/2” unfinished.

2. Sew one 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” (D) rectangle to both sides of one Step 1 unit; press. Repeat. Sew one 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” (E) rectangle to the right of one unit; press. Sew one 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” (E) rectangle to the left of one unit; press.

Make (1) each = 4 1/2” x 6 1/2” unfinished.

3. Draw a diagonal line on the back side of twelve 1 1/4” (E) squares. With right sides together, place one marked square on the lower left corner of one 2 1/2” (D) square. Sew on the line. Trim seam to 1/4” and press toward the resulting triangle. Repeat for upper and lower right corners of the (D) square. Repeat to make two units. Repeat to make two reverse units.

Make (2) each = 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” unfinished.

4. Sew one 2 1/2” (E) square with two matching units from Step 3. Make one and one reverse unit.

Make (1) each = 2 1/2” x 6 1/2” unfinished.

5. Sew one Step 2 unit to the appropriate Step 4 unit to complete one block. Make one and one reverse block.

Make (1) each = 6 1/2” x 6 1/2” unfinished.

Chain Blocks

1. Sew one 2” (C) strip to one 2” (E) strip. Press toward (C). Repeat to make five strip sets. Cut strip sets into ninety-six (96) 2” segments.

2. Sew two Step 1 segments together into one fourpatch unit; press. Repeat to make forty-eight (48) units.

Make (48) = 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” unfinished.

3. Sew two Step 2 units with two 3 1/2” (E) squares to complete one block; press. Repeat to make twenty-four blocks.

Make (24) = 6 1/2” x 6 1/2” unfinished.

Assembly:

1. Sew one 1 3/4” x 41 1/2” (F) strip to the sides of panel (A) rectangle; press. Sew one 1” x 36 1/2” (F) strip to the top and bottom of (A); press. Panel center to measure 36 1/2” x 42 1/2” unfinished.

2. Referring to Quilt Diagram for correct placement, sew six Chain Blocks and one Double Note Block into a side column; press. Repeat to create one reverse side column; press. Sew one column to each side of the Quilt Center; press.

3. Referring to Quilt Diagram for correct placement, sew six Chain Blocks with two Single Note Blocks into a row; press. Repeat to make second row. Sew one row to the top and bottom of the Quilt Center; press.

4. Sew one 1 1/2” x 54 1/2” (E) strip to both sides of the quilt; press. Sew one 1 1/2” x 50 1/2” (E) strip to the top and bottom of the quilt; press.

5. Sew one 1 1/2” x 56 1/2” (F) strip to both sides of the quilt; press. Sew one 1 1/2” x 52 1/2” (F) strip to the top and bottom of the quilt; press.

6. Sew one 1 1/2” x 58 1/2” (E) strip to both sides of the quilt; press. Sew one 1 1/2” x 54 1/2” (E) strip to the top and bottom of the quilt; press.

Finishing:

1. Prepare backing using two widths with horizontal seam/s. Press and trim to 62” x 68”.

2. Layer backing, batting, and quilt top. Baste and quilt as desired.

3. Trim layers even with quilt top squaring corners.

4. Prepare binding using 2 1/2” (B) strips with diagonal seams. Trim seams to 1/4” and press open. Sew binding to quilt using your preferred method.
