Cutting Instructions:

Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. Strips are cut across the width of fabric (perpendicular to selvedges) unless otherwise stated. All seams are sewn with 1/4” seam unless otherwise stated. Label all pieces.

From Fabric A:

1. Fussy cut one 17” x 17” square, centered on the large block. (Blocks)

2. Fussy cut six 7 1/2” x 7 1/2” squares, centered on small blocks. (Blocks)

From Fabric B:

1. Cut one 1 3/4” strip; sub-cut two 1 3/4” x 17” strips. (Center Block)

2. Cut one 1 3/4” strip; sub-cut two 1 3/4” x 19 1/2” strips. (Center Block)

3. Cut two 1 1/2” x 24 1/2” strips. (Border)

4. Cut two 1 1/2” x 26 1/2” strips. (Border)

5. Cut three 1 1/2” strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut two 1 1/2” x 50 1/2” strips. (Border)

6. Cut three 1 1/2” strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut two 1 1/2” x 52 1/2” strips. (Border)

7. Cut seven 2 1/2” strips. (Binding)

From Fabric C:

1. Cut one 3 1/2” strip; sub-cut seven 3 1/2” squares. (Border)

2. Cut four 1 1/4” strips; sub-cut sixteen 1 1/4” x 9” strips. (Blocks)

3. Cut four 1 1/4” strips; sub-cut sixteen 1 1/4” x 10 1/2” strips. (Blocks)

From Fabric D:

1. Cut two 3 1/2” strips; sub-cut fourteen 3 1/2” squares. (Border)

2. Cut three 1 3/4” strips; sub-cut twelve 1 3/4” x 7 1/2” strips. (Blocks)

3. Cut three 1 3/4” strips; sub-cut twelve 1 3/4” x 10” strips. (Blocks)

4. Cut four 1 1/4” strips; sub-cut twenty 1 1/4” x 7 1/2” strips. (Blocks)

1. Cut one 7 1/2” strip; sub-cut four 7 1/2” squares. (Blocks)

From Fabric G:

1. Cut one 7 1/2” strip; sub-cut four 7 1/2” squares. (Blocks)

From Fabric H:

1. Cut two 4 1/2” x 52 1/2” length of fabric strips. (Border)

From the remaining fabric: 2. Fussy cut two 7 1/2” squares, centered on ponds. (Blocks)

3. Cut two 4 1/2” x 60 1/2” strips, piece as needed. (Border)

From Fabric I:

1. Cut two 2 1/2” x 26 1/2” length of fabric strips. (Border)

2. From the remaining fabric, cut two 2 1/2” x 30 1/2” strips, piece as needed. (Border)

Piecing Instructions:

The arrows in figures represent the fabric print direction. Pay attention to the fabric and unit orientations while assembling the various components. Figure 6 Make 6 units

Sew one 1 3/4” x 17” B strip to each side of the 17” x 17” A rectangle. Sew one 1 3/4" x 19 1/2” B strip to the top and to the bottom of the A rectangle to make the Center Block (Fig. 1). Trim the block to measure 18 1/2” x 18 1/2”.

Sew together one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” E square, one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” C square, one 3 1/2” D square and one 3 1/2” E square, in that order from top to bottom, to make the Inner Left Side Border (Fig. 2).

Sew together one 3 1/2” C square, one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” E square, one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” C square and one 3 1/2” D square, in that order from top to bottom, to make the Inner Right Side Border (Fig. 3).

Sew together one 3 1/2” C square, one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” E square, one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” C square, one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” E square and one 3 1/2” D square, in that order from left to right, to make the Inner Top Border (Fig. 4).

Sew together one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” C square, one 3 1/2” D square, one 3 1/2” E square, one 3 1/2” D square , one 3 1/2” C square, one 3 1/2” D square and one 3 1/2” E square, in that order from left to right, to make the Inner Bottom Border (Fig. 5).

Bottom Border

Sew one 1 3/4” x 7 1/2” D strip to each side of one 7 1/2” A square. Sew one 1 3/4” x 10” D strip to the top and to the bottom of the A square to make one Unit 1 square (Fig. 6). Trim the unit to measure 9” x 9”. Repeat to make six Unit 1 squares total.

Sew one 1 1/4” x 7 1/2" D strip to each side of one 7 1/2” F square. Sew one 1 1/4” x 9” D strip to the top and to the bottom of the F square to make one 9” Unit 2 square (Fig. 7). Repeat to make four Unit 2 squares total.

Repeat Step 7 and refer to Figures 8-9 for fabric identification and placement to make four Unit 3 squares and (2) Unit 4 squares.

Sew one 1 1/4” x 9” E strip to each side of one Unit 1 square. Sew one 1 1/4” x 10 1/2” E strip to the top and to the bottom of the Unit 1 square to make one 10 1/2"” Block One square (Fig. 10). Repeat to make six Block One squares total.

Repeat Step 9 and refer to Figures 11-13 for component identification, placement and orientation to make four Block Two squares, four Block Three squares and two Block Four squares.

Sew together one Block Three square, one Block Four square and one Block Two square, in that order from top to bottom, to make the Outer Left Side Border (Fig. 14).

Repeat Step 12 and refer to Figures 15-17 for component identification, placement and orientation to make the Outer Right Side Border, the Outer Top Border and the Outer Bottom Border.

Assembly: Refer to the Quilt Diagram

Sew the Inner Left Side Border and Inner Right Side Border to the left and right sides of the Center Block.

Sew the Inner Top Border and Inner Bottom Border to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Sew one 1 1/2” x 24 1/2” B strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew one 1 1/2” x 26 1/2” B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Sew one 2 1/2” x 26 1/2” I strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew one 2 1/2” x 30 1/2” I strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Sew the Outer Left Side Border and Outer Right Side Border to the left and right sides of the Center Block.

Sew the Outer Top Border and the Outer Bottom Border to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Sew one 1 1/2” x 50 1/2” B strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew one 1 1/2” x 52 1/2” B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Sew one 4 1/2” x 52 1/2” H strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew one 4 1/2” x 60 1/2” H strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.

Finishing:

Prepare backing using two widths with 1/2” seams. Press seams open. Trim backing to 68” x 68”.

Layer quilt, batting and backing. Baste layers together.

Quilt as desired.

Trim layers even with quilt top squaring corners.

Join seven 2 1/2” B binding strips with diagonal seams. Press seams open. Attach binding using your favorite method.

Make a label and sew to the back of the quilt.
