The 26th European Film Awards brought over 900 European filmmakers, EFA Members, guests, nominees and winners to Berlin, seat of the European Film Academy, where the ceremony takes place every second year.

The Awards Weekend
After a day packed with interviews at the hotel and preparations at the venue, Friday evening saw a special screening of UN CONTE DE NOEL with Catherine Deneuve, recipient of the EFA Lifetime Achievement Award, at the Arsenal cinema.

THE EFA STATUETTE
The awards statuette is a silver statuette of a woman in a star-covered dress. It comes from London where the British jeweller and designer Theo Fennell each year produces the statuettes for all winners. The statuette is 26 cm tall and weighs 2 kilograms. EFA sponsor GLS made sure that every single one reached Berlin safely!

EFA Members and the international press gathered at the French Embassy where the MEDIA Desk and Antennae Germany, on the occasion of the European Film Awards and in co-operation with the French Film Week, were hosting a special reception in the presence of Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth. The Nominees’ Reception took place at the 40 seconds club overlooking Potsdamer Platz. In a family atmosphere, each nominee received a certificate and the night allowed nominees to meet each other and celebrate together.

On Saturday morning, the EFA General Assembly included the announcement of the new EFA Board, chaired by Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland. Lord David Puttnam (pictured with EFA Members Bruno Chatelin and Ingela Brovik) then gave a passionate presentation titled A MATTER OF RESPONSIBILITY, followed by a vivid discussion. Meanwhile, the public had the chance to meet Carice van Houten & band and documentary filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer at two events at the Berlin Apple Store.

A group of ten Spanish actors, attending in honour of Pedro Almod贸var, recipient of the European Achievement in World Cinema Award, made for a special moment when arriving in an oldtimer bus and turning the red carpet with its 40 photographers and 30 TV teams into a happy fiesta.
